Picnic Is On Saturday!!!!! :-)

Hi everyone,

Our picnic will finally be this coming Saturday! I'm getting the items I need to take along ready today. My schedule has been busier than usual lately, and I'm really looking forward to it!

On a side note, I suffered a terrible fall yesterday but I am doing okay. I was setting/rearranging my neighbors' flowers that set under the covered portion of their deck on to the open part so they could get some rain. I was reaching for the one flower that hangs on a shepherd's hook over on the side of the railing in the yard. Well, the deck was wet from raining and as I reached for the hanging basket, my feet went out from under me and down over the side of the deck railing I went. I only have a sore left arm and a brush burn on the right side where my ribs are, but I am fine and dandy otherwise. The events after that yesterday were 100 percent more positive :-).

Anyways, the big day is approaching and I'll get some pictures for you all! :-).

Oh dear, Brad, you must be careful, you could have hurt yourself much worse, and just before the picnic too.

I'll look forward to seeing pictures!

I just made a phone call on your behalf. I had asked for a rainy day, but I changed it just for you. There will be a fine cool sunny shiny day all day on Saturday.

However, I need your HELP, or I should say that the Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association needs your help. Who is the worst polluter of our streams in NC? Durham County. Ellerbe Creek is a mess. Here is the important part: ELLERBE CREEK CONTRIBUTES POLLUTION TO FALLS LAKE, RALEIGH'S WATER RESERVOIR! Lots of folks are helping, including Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association. ECWA is planning more residential rain garden installations this spring. NATIVE PLANTS ARE NEEDED. If you have extra native plants, potted up, please consider contributing them. I can send you a list of plants most needed if you want. The plants can be picked up from your home, or maybe someone will collect them for me at the swap. Well, she's made it to The Day. Well, The Day is actually tomorrow, but it's close. At the hospital at 5:30 am, she's the first "scheduled" surgery, that means it'll be afternoon before she's finished, out of recovery, allowed visitors, etc. Amanda was over yesterday and looks pale and tired, with big dark circles under her eyes. Her medication levels are still low, in spite of increasing her medication to the highest allowable dosage. So, after Maci/Kendall/whoever (grin) comes, I'll be pacing the floor until the September 30 neurologist appointment. Nothing happens quickly, I guess, and I'm such a patient person too. Ahem. Bud is spending the rest of the week with me while his sister is camping with "the other" Grandma, so Amanda can get a break, at least. Annie

I didn't read all of your other posts regarding his issues, but I know in general, when "worlds collide" it takes some getting used to. I think this might be more common for guys than girls. I know I am experiencing a little of this right now, my GF of 5+ years and her son just this month moved to my town from the city (about 50 miles away). We are not living together, neither of us wanted to put our kids thru the "blending families" stress, but have wanted to live much closer to each other for many years. We waited until now due to her son just finishing middle school. But although it's only been a couple weeks, I gotta say it's weird knowing that for the first time in 5+ years, I could bump into her at any time..at the supermarket, passing in our cars, etc. I have no secrets, nothing to hide, etc... and am a little surprised that I have this weird feeling about bumping into her. She's spent a lot of time up here with me over the years, so it's not her being up here that in any way makes me have this weird feeling, I think it's just that feeling like I lost my "safe zone" or something. Or possibly that she may run into my ex, they've only met a couple times...I guess that kind of weirds me out too. I'd respect his need for his space right now.....hopefully as he adapts to this environment, it will start to pass and you will be more welcome into that other world. Please don't read too much into it....like me, it may be something that even he cannot rationally explain....

The first time a KTer (Kathy_VA, who no longer posts here) was coming to our home, DH was horrified--the old "axe murderer" mentality. He made it clear that he would be in another part of the house. Yeah, right. He realized how nice she was, and we didn't have two minutes alone. After that, the Welcome mat was out for KTers. We've also had visits from Marsha_OK, Linda_in_Iowa, Nita and Bobby, Teresa, Ang, and two ladies from Our Humble Home. All have been super, and are welcome for a return visit. Stan bonded with Bobby (Nita's grandson, who was about 10 at the time), and they had a great time. As others have said, Nita is the nicest person on the planet. I wish I could travel all over, and I'd visit every KTer! They are the greatest!

Thank you, Annie and dcarch!

I'm doing okay, thanks to Tylenol and some antibiotic cream from the Dollar General. Oddly enough, I had plans yesterday as well. I found some things I've been wanting which made me happy and dad and I ate supper at Red Lobster and boy was it ever good.

Annie, you're right, it could've been much worse. I had my umbrella with me and I landed on it when I fell. It's one that has a pointed metal end, so I'm very lucky I didn't sustain anything worse. It was very scary, for sure

I'm pretty much all set for Saturday. I have things pretty much packed up and ready to go.

Well, I didn't get any pictures, but I had so much fun!!!!! :-) The food was delicious and we had such fun catching up with one another! Our one friend didn't make it, but we all still had a good time regardless.

So glad you are OK from your fall. My neighbor wasn't so lucky as you. He slipped on his wet deck last week and dislocated AND broke his foot. He was wearing rubber fishing boots which I am sure didn't help the slipping factor.

So glad you enjoyed your picnic :-)

Annie, yes my friend Emily (who hosted us at her and her husband's home) and I did the cooking. I was very surprised at how well the food turned out. I made a few modifications to the rib recipe we used. She had already made the Peanut Butter Rice Krispies the day before and had some prep work done (cooking and chopping the bacon and green onions for the twice baked potatoes) and did the shopping for the ingredients (I did bring the BBQ and Buffalo Wing Sauces and cookware).
It was a fun time :-).

caminnc, I am sorry to hear of your neighbor's accident! I hope he makes a speedy recovery!
