DH had surgery again

His fourth heart surgery in three years. Has been having all kinds of problems the last year and doctor would say you just have to live with it. Finally got into another cardiologist and in one week of testing had him in surgery and he's oh so much better. Can't believe the difference in him. New doctor said, he couldn't live with it in fact he wouldn't have lived much longer. His heart had stopped while doc was doing one of the test. Can't understand why these doctors take on so many patients they can't keep up with the ones they have and we had a time getting into a new doctor. Now maybe every thing will calm down here and get back to normal. Both of my uncles are still holding on with there cancers but the one we know the end is really near.

I'm glad your DH is doing better. You sure have had a lot to handle recently. Don't forget to take care of yourself as well.

I'm glad y'all found another doctor to help your dh and that he is doing better.
I'm sorry your uncles are having to go through that. It's so hard to watch a loved one suffer. Prayers for you and your family.

Karen, I am so glad your husband came out of his surgery so well! I'm still waiting for the day when open heart surgery is an outpatient procedure. lol! I know he has be relieved to be home (and able to watch TV). You, Fred and your dad will remain in my thoughts and prayers.

Yes Chem treatments are very expensive and hard both on the person and the family. Our cancer center offers a variety help courses. Financial, support groups, monthly meeting, etc. You need outside interests beside school. Sounds like you have been a caretaker alot. What hobbies have you developed, do you belong and participate in any churches, organizations. Even if you took your daughter occasionally to meetings etc that would help. But you and your family must learn to be more positive etc. We have been dealing with cancer for 3 years, now in remission, and I refuse to let it or my family to control me. We work together. I have hobbies, belong to 3 different groups, have offices and keep busy. Yes I get upset and depressed, but not for long. Yes we do things together, and he cannot do much, but what he can do we try to do together, or with other people. We do not let cancer control us.

For those of you about to have the surgery--is there ANY chance you can put it off for a while? There's an amazing new lens on the horizon, but won't be available for a bit yet. I can't remember the name/brand of it, but DD was telling me about it, and glad that by the time DH and I would need the surgery, we'd be able to get it, because it's SO superior to what's available now. OP--if you are your husband's full-time caregiver, and won't be able to lift for a week, can you check into having a home health aid in for a few hours a day to help out? Hopefully, insurance will pay for it, if your husband needs that kind of care, but even if they won't, it's home health aids aren't that expensive (think mom was paying $20-40/hour, depending upon what they did for her. And, of course, that kind of expense would be a medical deduction at the end of the year when you do your taxes, so with a little luck, you'd be getting some of it back. You definitely don't want to chance trying to lift him, if it's going to damage your surgery. Good luck.

Thank heavens for the new doctor. I sure hope the surgery makes him better. We're going through the same thing here and I'm about fed up to here with DH's doctors.

Patti43, try and find another cardiologist, it's hard to get another one to take over. I finally went to family doctor and told him something had to be done and could he help us. It was him that called the other doctor and got DH set up to see him. DH had a quadruple bypass less then three years ago and since then has had to go back in for more stents.
He watches what he eats and get ex cerise like he's suppose to but then he started having problems and old doc said, nothing could be wrong, made him feel like it's all in his head. His heart rate was dropping so low he felt he just couldn't do anything, not even walk very far with out resting. If you feel your doctors not understanding Your DH, find another. We waited almost to late. He just had his surgery Tues. and it's like night and day in the way he now feels. Good luck to you and your Dh.
