what does the ent dr suggest? know they can be very pricey...fil uses the smaller in the ear you can barely see, but talking on the phone with him is terrible...

Mine came from Costco. Some of the pro's for getting them there is that the audiologists are not paid by 'commission'.... price is set by store. You can stop by on your shopping trip and get info and cleaning and replacing parts that wear out while you shop and batteries at a good price. Downside.... the ads in the newspapers keep me in doubt about if I have the 'right or best' for me. They are very pricey and NOWHERE as good as your own hearing. They keep getting better.... but.... pity these youngsters who are deafening themselves with the loud music etc.

PS I have heard about the 'blu-tooth?"technology coming on strong. Check that out.

Get a "hearing amplifier" from eBay, Amazon, or other. Far less expensive (by thousands) and, in my experience with someone diagnosed as "profound hearing loss", just as good if not better and so less expensive.

Many people with hearing impairment have problems hearing consonants so an amplifier will not help with that.
I got my hearing aids at Costco.....love the service I have gotten there. I am on my second pair, since I lost one after having it for four years.
I originally saw an audiologist....extremely expensive so I decided to be hard of hearing a little longer. I saw my ENT doc about a year later and he suggested I try Costco for hearing aids. I am glad he did.
Life is much better being able to hear more clearly.

I went to New Sound and got mine after having my hearing tested. their are all kinds of hearing loss so you need to have your hearing tested and you need to be able to go in if you have any kind of issue at all... New Sound gives me my batteries free also..I have a high frequency hearing loss ...Mine have also been repaired twice in 8 years with no charge....I usually carry a warranty...Yes they are expensive but I think they are worth the cost...edited to add that I don't remember the exact cost but it was just over three thousand for the two of them.

I know several people who have purchased hearing aids in the last few years, and all who have not received them through an L&I work related claim have gone to Costco. One exception, and that man can spend $5000-$6000 about like most of us would spend $500-$600 and never miss it so he went locally for convenience. Closest Costco is an hour away.

Just had a talk with DH last night, this is the year he needs to go for a hearing check. I'm really feeling like I say everything at least twice, or he's asking what I said and I'm annoyed at repeating myself - either way, not normal flow of conversation. Just the other day, as I got up from my computer and walked past him in his chair, I said about an elderly friend, 'C called today and said her sister had died.' His response, 'OK, I'll get that for you my first trip out to the garage.'

Arghhhhh! He's healthy, strong, still working, but the hearing is going ;)

In the past few months I've had to tell Robert to lower his voice very frequently. That's on the list of things that he's gotta have checked out! (I don't think that MY hearing is improving by leaps and bounds, lol!)

I got mine from Costco, too. Doctor said they were cheaper there and they have excellent service. They are not cheap but are necessary. Mine have rechargeable batteries which is better than having to change them all the time. They also come with a remote control so you can turn the sound up or down. I lost one and it was replaced for free.

Recently I found the lost one. It was on the bathroom floor almost in front of the sink. I wonder if the cat found it and put it there because I would have seen or stepped on it in the almost year that it was "lost".

Hubby is getting deaf, too but he refuses to go get it checked.

Frequent sinus troubles (and aging!) have affected my hearing. A few years ago I lost my ability to locate the origin of a sound because one ear is better than the other. (My 'radar' is impaired.)

Now DH is losing his hearing, and we are engaging in that skit on the aged: "What? What? Who? Speak UP! You don't have to shout at me, you know!" We are often dependent on captioning on movies -- have given up on some with heavy dialects if they don't have captioning.

My ENT makes a huge profit selling hearing aids. I'd prefer to go elsewhere. This thread has been helpful. I'll try Costco.
