Put my tree up last night with help from a friend. Itchy, hive like blisters at my wrists. I’ve recently done allergy testing and was told i have eczema. Didn’t realize that was a fancy way of saying contact dermatitis til tonight. 😮 As i’m a sleep scratcher i have already rubbed these things raw and decided to search for this topic. I didn’t realize there were so many different types of ”eczema”, and I’m a nurse. It all makes total sense now. So glad i found y’all here. Will definitely go with the gloves/long sleeves for tear down and hopefully remember for next season

I don't know if you are aware of it or not, but carpeting is usually always covered in chemicals. One of the worst offenders as far as furnishings for the home. I'm always trying to keep chemicals out of the house and haven't bought carpeting in a long time because of that. If that were the case, it wouldn't even need to be contact with the rug, it could be in the air of that room. But, if they are lying on it, you could try putting sheets over the carpet for a week so they aren't coming in contact with it and see if that changes anything. Or of course, keep them out of the room for long enough to see if there is improvement. I was talking to someone the other day who has tropical birds and she said they are very sensitive to household chemicals. They've been known to die from fumes from cheap teflon pans, and glade plug ins and the fumes from using self cleaning ovens. I thought that was very telling about what we are exposed to in the home on a daily basis. Of course we are larger than a bird, but dogs aren't that much larger.

Honestly I freaked seeing the reaction. I still am swollen with a milder rash but no longer have an intense itch. I am reacting to wherever I brushed the concrete. I have a few frogs dead in the pool so I wondered if there was a chemical leeching thus the rash. THank YOu for posting. I seriously was worried that this was going to be an issue. I washed with a poison ivy soap thinking it would be a stronger cleaner. Where I broke the skin the rash is more inflamed.

My mother couldn’t use penicillin as it gave her terrible hives. I get really bad strep throat from time to time. I go from feeling fine to almost unable to swallow in about 30 minutes- that’s how I know it isn’t an ordinary sore throat. If I get antibiotics immediately I’m fine, if not I’ll be in bed for a week or even the hospital. So, DH and I were driving to the airport when “the throat” started. There was no way I was going to get antibiotics from a doctor in time. We were stopping at DD’s as she was taking our car to the airport to drop us off, and I raided her medicine cabinet and found some Clarithromycin which I took and cleared up the throat. But a day later I got this really itchy rash on my forearms. I thought it was caused by my coming into contact with a plant in DD’s garden which is known to cause such rashes. We called into a pharmacy overseas and the (non English speaking) pharmacist proffered some cream. I read the information leaflet to discover it was a cream for genital herpes! So I asked for something else, and the rash cleared up. A couple of years later, a doctor prescribed Clarithromycin again. Again I got the rash and, as I was staying with DD, again concluded it was the plant. But a week later the rash was getting worse and I hadn’t been exposed to the plant for days. So I went to a local pharmacy and asked if there were any adverse reactions to Clarithromycin. Lo and behold, a rash was one of the most common ones. So now I avoid Clarithromycin :-)
