We made it through another week!

THe word of the day here is..........PACKING! Yep, we are headed out for a week in Ogunquit. I can't wait! Rum punches on Barnacle Billys deck, chowder and lobster rolls at Oarweeds, beach every day and a trip out to the Isles of Shoals with a friend who is an archeologist and is going to give us a tour of some of the excavation sites.

Have a happy and safe weekend (and week) all! I will be posting when I have a moment in between lobster feasts.

Alexa, I am so envious.....no no wait, make that jealous. I love Ogunquit, just have never had enough time there. Have fun!

Hey Alexa -- I hope your vacay is fabulous. I can't wait to get back to the Cape after Labor Day. I may try Maine next year.

So far, I spent the morning trimming back the pachysandra along my driveway. I wonder why it likes to grow on asphalt so much?? I don't mind the trimming part, I just don't like picking it all up and putting it in the recycling bags. My joints are getting a bit creaky for that.

I am taking Fridays off for the rest of the summer. Nice.

I think I will do some furniture shopping this afternoon with a stop at a farm market along the way.

Oh yeah -- the house. Plenty of cleaning to do there, but it is my least favorite thing to do.

I think I will try to recruit a friend to see a movie this weekend. Other than that, it's just more of theusual stuff.

I haven't ordered from Wild's for quite a while. In the past I have ordered several daylilies from them but since they changed hands I had several daylilies that were misnamed. Some of the hardiest daylilies I have are the ones I ordered from Wild's in the late 90's. They have really good prices so hope they will change their ways. (grin) You will be fine on the daylilies as long as they are in the ground 4-6 weeks before the ground freezes. Frost will nip the foliage but it is the roots you are concerned about. Southern daylilies planted in the fall (isn't Flynn in Alabama?) need to be mulched here--not used to our extreme temps. Maybe we will have another mild winter. A really good "local" place to order daylilies from is Homestead Farms at Owensville. They have a website with photos. Nice plants, customer service and good prices. They also have hosta, ferns and some iris. My daughter has bought hosta's from them. She used to have the Owensville store when she was a DM for Wal-Mart Jewelry and she would stop by the nursery. Been awhile since I was there or ordered but don't think things have changed. What are the names of the ones you ordered? We were dairy farmers for over 20 years. We recently sold some property to a girl whose mother dairies. We were talking about milking the other day and the mother said how she liked the cows. I told her that if I had to go to work again--meaning holding down a public job---I would rather milk cows again. True it is confining but between milkings you are home able to do what you want. I really dreaded mornings in the wintertime though and the flies in the summer not to mention trying to keep the milk inspector happy!! Peaches are one of my DH favorite things. I would like to be able to find some good ones here---need to take a look around---check out the farmer's market tomorrow.

A very happy 2008 to everyone! Katie, I agree with the others..drag the dog along, oh wait you meant your husband. See, Joe has the same idea! Linda, are you on the same coast as me? ItÂs been quite blustery for the last few days And yesterday later in the day it started raining and didnÂt stop til about an hour ago..now the sun is out but the wind is still whippin. The candles are always ready here, the only thing I do once we get a few flickers is fill up some pitchers of water..I can cook and heat the house (gas)..so the only thing we suffer from is toilet flushing. LOL Sharon, The Last Supper..now that is cheeky. LOL And what is it with the dishwasher duty? IÂve been trying to convince the boys itÂs funÂbut apparently since IÂm the only one that does it..they arenÂt buying it! Annie, well that "contract" is bindingÂbetter keep up on those 6 mo checks! And I agree with Maggie..a girl AmandaÂs age shouldnÂt be settlin..she should be playin the field and experiencing as much as possible. Happy Birthday Elery! Gina, can you "see" someone else on the side? ~snort~ and if Ms Gabor can pull it off so Can you! Nancy, as much as I love to have tan skin..but know how bad it is..IÂm really thinking about a quick jaunt to the local electric beach! Just to feel warm all over! He coaches the middle sons team and the oldest son coaches the youngest ones team..I just get to watch. J Over course this week, they are playing at the same time. So IÂm with the 2 boys. Then I have a little bit of time to spend collecting registration forms and giving out information for Little League. Other than that..we donÂt have much planned for the rest of the weekend. I can't handle poker and I never gamble - we played bridge when I was at Rice. I suppose if it's silly poker, then I could handle it, but if it's girls' night, I would be out of luck anyway. I'd love to go with Alexa on the kitchen tour, however! Pam, I've had my garden mostly planted since February, but it's taking a while for seeds to sprout, and everything seems to be growing very slowly. It's like I'm in a time warp. Linda, I've been under the weather for the past three weeks although the symptoms are very mild now - I just have a persistent low grade fever and congestion that won't go away. I have a doctor's appointment for Friday, and I'll probably be all better before then. Sharon, I like dress shopping also, unlike my sister. If I do go shopping with her, I help her pick things out because she doesn't know what looks good on her. I became very sad this afternoon because my favorite furniture maker who has been making most of the new designs I have done lately got deported this week. He owns a fairly large shop and had several employees. I hope he can get his paperwork in order to come back. I didn't realize how emotionally attached I was with him, but I really appreciated how he understood my designs. I provided him with full-scale cardboard versions of the furniture, some of which had complicated compound curves, and he was able to reproduce what I designs with very few revisions necessary. Also, we communicated very well, and he would always call me if he had questions or needed additional dimensions. I know he was here legally until his visa or something ran out, and so I expect that he will come back, but probably not for a few months, and I have new designs that I need to get made, not to mention inventory for ones that he has already made for us. duane--i think everyone on the northeast coast was hunkered down after our fun drive home last night! i expected the roads to be slick but that "ooblick" falling from the sky just kept glomming on to the windshield and wipers. my trip is only about 22 miles or so and i had to stop twice on the way home to clean the wiper blades so i could see! enjoy the wegman's trip stacy--i'd love to go along with you as that is such a neat store. not much you can't find in there, is there? sorry to hear you aren't feeling well, maggie. and i certainly hope your new footwear cleans up to your satisfaction. maybe grace didn't understand that "uggs" was a brand name and not a statement :) congrats, gina! i knew you had been working hard on your game but your teacher said your stroke was perfect? it just doesn't get any better than that--congrats to you! glad to hear that meredith continues to challenge you, chase. you wouldn't have it any other way, would you? we bought our tree last weekend and it's still sitting in a snow bank... happy birthday to wolf, sharon! sounds like you have everything all mapped out to make things special! michelle--i sure hope you add snow chains and kitty litter to your list, should you decide to continue on your jaunt this weekend. the weather reports look absolutely horrid right now! good luck with your decision! rearranging and cleaning up are what's on my weekend list. gotta make room for the tree and get the christmas cards ready for monday's mail. those 2 little tasks will really take way longer than they should but i sort of look forward to it. hope everyone in our part of the world stays off the road if you don't absolutely have to be out and about--enjoy!

caliloo - Wishing you a great week in Ogunquit! It was fun to read someone posting about a place in my (relative) neck of the woods. I haven't spent much time in Ogunquit, but did have an opportunity last fall to finally dine at Arrows. That was quite the experience! Hope the great summer weather we're enjoying today follows you into the week.

DH has today off from work and it's groundskeeping day at home, then here at the lake.

Tomorrow we are hosting DH's younger brother & his wife. They're coming for a sunset cruise around the lake and then dinner - it will be there first time visiting here. It happens to be my BIL's BD, so I decided to make Ann T's White Chocolate Raspberry Tart for dessert. DH will grill steak tips and fresh corn and I'm making Martha's Lobster Casserole to go with. It's not "that" Martha's, but Linda Greenlaw's mom, Martha's. Linda was the swordfish boat captain who was featured in the book/movie "A Perfect Storm." She & her mom collaborated on a cookbook a couple year's back. I took my mom to their book signing which was really enjoyable. Martha is a terrific down-to-earth cook whose manner reminds me of many of the people who post here. That recipe has become one of our special occasion favorites. Linda now lobsters off the Maine coast so, no doubt, their family enjoys this dish more often than ours as it requires the meat of 7 lobsters, which I'll be steaming and cleaning later today.

Happy Friday, all! It's been awhile. Sunset cruises and lobster....I am sooooo jealous!

Today is my second day off since July 26. We have been preparing to join a library consortium and we found out two weeks ago we have to re-barcode and re-catalog every item in two libraries....by next Monday! I've been leaving for work at gawdawful o'clock to get as much done as possible before everyone starts on the computers and slows the system down.

Other than that summer has been filled with excavation and landscaping and fencing. My garden went in late and we're finally harvesting a few cherry tomatoes, greens, baby zucchinis and tons of rattail radishes. And lots of garlic. It's new, unamended ground, so we're glad that anything actually grew.

The end is in sight for our conversion at work, so hopefully I'll get a chance to catch up with the CF....I miss you guys! ~clink!~

katie, I've missed you too, I was blaming canning season.

Alexa and amck, I can't even tell you how much I'd like to be in Maine, or anywhere there was that much lobster. I've read that lobster is cheap this year, $2 a pound in some places. not here in Michigan, that's for sure. Enjoy your vacation, Alexa, and your weekend visit, amck.

Pam, I'd rather have a tooth pulled than go furniture shopping, my condolences, LOL. Skip the housework, it's summer, it's....um.....too hot. Yeah, that's it...

Here, Amanda/David/Ashley/The Monkey Princess/Bruvver are all leaving with me after work tonight. We'll spend the night at Elery's and go to the Toledo Zoo tomorrow to see lions and tigers and bears, oh my. Oh, and hippos and polar bears and elephants and giraffes. (grin) The kids will all ride back together on Sunday, I'll ride back with Elery. He'll be here for a couple of days, so I took Monday and Tuesday off, a long weekend!

We'll pick beans, the ducks need to be taken to the Amish to become, well, frozen ducks, LOL, that'll happen Monday. Tuesday I'm meeting a new forum member for lunch, hopefully, I'll post about that when it happens and then out to dinner Tuesday night with a co-worker of Elery's. With me here and him down there, not many of his colleagues have met me, they are accusing him of having an imaginary wife. (snicker) I'll bet he wishes that were true, some days. Anyway, this co-worker is doing some kind of long motorcycle ride for the cancer society and is going through Big Rapids, so we're having supper. Wednesday it's back to the grind.....

Amck - I eould love that recipe for Lobster Casserole! Is it the basic one with a veloute, lobster meat and crushed Ritz crackers or is there a secret ingredient or two? The entire menu sounds TDF.

Ded - good luck furniture shopping - I am with Annie there, I think I would rather have root canal.

Good luck Katie! Sounds like you have a monumental project on your hands.

Annie enjoy the family and the zoo. I'm sure you will all have a fantastic time. The ducks will be delicious when the time comes... I'm just glad you didn't make my mistake and name them. LOL!

Just to clarify for everyone - this is a special destination for me. Ogunquit is my home town and we will be driving up tomorrow on the 17th anniversary of my dear Dad passing. He was a resident of Ogunquit for over 25 years and left us much too soon, so I think there will be bittersweet moments during the next week.

Let me say again - have a fantastic weekend and treasure your families.

I am having good good friends for dinner tonight. They will be returning from a day at the hospital with their daughter who had a double mastectomy Wednesday, and there were cells in the sentinal node, have yet to get the labs back on the axillary nodes. I've known this lady since she was tiny, she was my daughter's college room mate....and I will be serving her parents compassion along with the vodka, scotch, beef and corn. My daughter took dinner to her husband and kids yesterday.
Don't know about the rest of the weekend yet...

We are having my sons Eagle Scout Ceremony tomorrow.Its kind of bitter sweet because my parents were supposed to fly in today,but yesterday my mom had a severe reaction to her cholesterol medicine,cauing her liver to react.So they are not able to make it.So pictures will have to do.

caliloo - I'll post the lobster casserole on a new post. I was able to get 1 1/2 lb.'ers for $3.99 lb. today. That's the lowest price I remember seeing, ever, so if others find a similar bargain, now would be a good time to try the dish. There aren't any Ritz crackers in the recipe BTW.

What you added about your Dad in your second post lends a bittersweet note to your visit. So nice that you are able to go back to a place that has so much meaning for you.

Annie...I don't know where you find your energy! Your weekend sounds jam-packed, and I'll be curious to hear about your meeting with a new forum member.

LindaC, you are so good to host the family whose daughter just had surgery. Our family had a concentrated run of serious health issues a couples years ago, and there is nothing so healing and soothing to the soul, IMO, as someone preparing and sharing a home cooked meal. It's like water to a wilting plant after days & nights of hospital cafeteria food. I hope her results are good. My Mom is a double mastectomy survivor - there's good reason to have faith in a favorable outcome these days.

Linda C, man that's a tuff one pal. Glad to know you and your DD are there for them during this challenging time. I sure hope all works out for the best.

A few of us are taking a much needed break tomorrow and just hanging by the pool and chillin out. It's been a challenging year for many reasons so we decided to forget about all of the carp and just have some fun. Cold beer, munchies, and something on the grill will round out the day. Sunday will be chores and some more canning for me...that is if I don't have to big of a hangover from Saturday. LOL!
