Pizza Pie or Deep Dish Pizza

I am contemplating making this. I have friends coming for dinner and I premade lasagna but my friend's husband doesn't eat pasta so I was making homemade pizza too. I have never made deep dish and was wondering for those that have - do you recommend it? Is the dough gooey and dumpling like? I like the idea it can cook at the same temperature as the lasagna. Also, how much filling do you put in - should it be an inch thick, more, less? Thanks for any input.
