I haven't seen the commercial, and I never heard of "Jimmy Johns" . But I am appalled. Using school violence in such a manner is absolutely disgusting. If I knew what Jimmy Johns was, I'd definitely boycott them. Hey, I already am.

I think that commercial takes place in a bank like Jenuwin said. Jimmy John's also has a commercial where the guy flips his car and is trapped and he calls JJ's too. I hated that commercial because it actually made me panic for the guy... then it's just a big joke.

Both are pretty tasteless if you ask me.

I agree it's an idiotic commercial, but let's not mislead everyone who hasn't seen it as being much worse than it even is.

Oh, I see, implying that it is OK to go into a BANK with assault rifles, have ADULTS cowering under their desks in that BANK in fear of their lives, is funny and an appropriate way to sell your sandwiches. Tell the advertiser how you perceive the commercial. If enough people do, they might get another, kinder and gentler advertising agency.

Call me clueless, but WTF is the difference? Have you ever been in an armed robbery at a credit union/bank/financial institution where someone pointed an automatic weapon at your head and you saw your whole life flashing before your eyes and you almost relieved yourself because you were so scared sh!tless? I don't think you have. Well, I have, and I find absolutely no humor in it. I hope to G-d it never happens to you because you'd certainly be having an epiphany regarding what you think is okay and/or funny.

I've watched many entertaining movies about bank robberies, and enjoyed them.(How to rob a bank. Butch Cassidy, ect) I wouldn't watch a movie about kids in a school being attacked in any way. Even a true story about it would make me cringe.
So, there is a huge difference IMO.

But feel free to be outraged. Did you contact Jimmy Johns?

Let's hope they were just concerned with technical correctness and not discounting the poor judgement of the Jimmy Johns company.

And the one about the car wreck sounds awful too. These are not joking matters.

Remember the Carl's Junior ad that showed a high school teacher doing a bump-and-grind dance in front of her students? The viewer backlash got that ad pulled, so maybe the same can happen with this one, if enough people complain.

Yes, I did contact Jimmy Johns and told them what I thought about their commercials, thanks to Chemocurl giving me the contact site. Pattico, I had wondered if I had heard of Junuwin before. I figured I had but had forgotten. I will continue to be outraged about the subject of this tasteless (as tasteless as their sandwiches) commercial. I have to agree, stupid commercial, as stupid as the the similar commercial where a man programs a tv show to record on his cellphone during a bank robbery. Left Jimmy Johhs a nice little complaint :~) I do like their subs...nice & fresh!

Direct TV has a commercial just like that. I never heard anyone complain about it. There are a lot of stupid commercials out there, that's what makes that mute button so great.

I agree with ka_wa about posting here; I'm mostly a lurker but do post occasionally - it shouldn't matter if you are a regular or not. I have seen that commercial and thought it was going to great lengths to advertise a sandwich.

The commercial is definitly not to my liking but I've seen what I consider worse - maybe not more violent but commercials I'd consider stupid.

It's good you contacted the corporation. It won't change until people like you voice your concerns.

BTW - I have eaten there once about 2 years ago. I enjoyed their sandwiches. Thought they were quite tastey but it is a sandwich, so not sure how they could mess it up.

Never have seen it, but I have written constructive criticism to the company advertising letting them know why I feel their ad is not acceptable to me
I did this to one of the fast food places several year ago, and did receive a nice reply and shortly it disappeared as they said they had received other complaints.

Everyone has different tastes on commercials. I haven't seen this one. I think I saw the one with a car accident or something and I have seen the one where a group of young kids are around a car, implying a "gang", and the passengers lock their doors, call for a sandwich and one of the kids comes up to the car with a rather "tough" look on his face then smiles and says something like "can I get the number?". I was surprised there wasn't an outcry of racism, and although I thought it was a rather stupid commercial I did think it was different and wasn't offended. Not having seen the commercial I can't in fairness give an opinion on it though. Personally, I'm far more offended by vomiting babies, feminine freshness commercials, "ask your doctor to give you ____ pills", "sue the ba$tards!!!" or file bankruptcy and dodge all your bills ads and the like, but to each their own and I respect individual tastes.

In any case, it's good that you voiced your opinion and did it to the proper place. If enough people boycott them and complain in an effective manner, they will change advertising styles. There is a right and a wrong way to complain.

On a different note, I always get annoyed with people who go in and yell at a cashier when they don't like something about a company. Do these people feel like bigshots when they do that? It bugged me to no end when people would yell at my cashiers to try to get them to change corporate policies! Contact the right people, I always say and give a break to the people trying to make a living from a legitimate job. Sometimes the right people are legislators! (As with those who were offended when they would get carded to buy something.) But that's a different topic too!

FWIW, I tried a Jimmy John's sandwich a few weeks back. Picked up a Subway and a Jimmy John's and thought I'd compare them. I was definitely disappointed in the Jimmy John's. It had a tasty bun and OK contents, but they bragged about their special sauce they put on everything and how great it is but this sandwich was dry so they didn't put much if any on it. And it was only a few cents cheaper than a foot-long sandwich from Subway. Definitely won't rush back there again. I really miss Clark's Submarine Sandwich shops. They had a great sandwich!

Commercials about bank robbers don't bother me. Commercials with kids as victims would have me pretty upset -
