is your coffee strong enough in the Kuerig?

I like coffee. I have one to two cups in the morning.

qvc's special value looks good, I've been thinking of

getting myself one and getting rid of the coffe maker

and the electric teapot off my counter. Got my DS's

girlfriend one for Christmas and they LOVE it.

DH says I make coffee STRONG... I guess I do. You know

those coffee makers in the hotel? the little 4 cuppers?

I need to put the decaf AND the regular pod in the pot.

one is just like weak tea water! lol

I guess I don't know if I would like the premeasured cups.

this one does come with a filter so I could use my own,.

but doesn't look like I can put more than the kcup amount in there.. what do you think?

oh, and they say you have to use filtered water....

I have a Kuerig, and I am very happy with it. It's the big one, that make 4 different cup sizes. I got it from Kohl's.

I like my coffee strong, too. Not like Starbucks, but very flavorful and well-bodied. I like Sumatra, as well as decaf French Vanilla.

You can get extra bold coffees, like Kona Extra Bold. My DH likes that one the best. BB&B sells the Kona EB by Green Mountain.

Kat, I love strong, bold coffee. I have two faves, Jet Fuel and Tree Hugger. If you get a Keurig or have access to one I will be happy to send a few samples of them, send me an address via my page here. I have never been able to find them locally, I have to get them from coffee.org.

Don't get me wrong - we adore Peet's, but their specialty has always been dark-roasted coffees. We get the French or Italian in a just-up-from-powdered-Turkish grind, brewed through Chemex filters. I long ago broke the Chemex glass pot and realized it's the filters and the cone shape that make the difference. A cheap plastic cone works just as well, but the Chemex bonded filters are a must. Compare side-by-side with a paper filter and you can tell the difference immediately. We filter into a vaccuum pot if we're not going to drink it right away; it holds it very well for about 4-5 hours. On the Left Coast we are passionate about coffee and Starbucks fans are regarded with smirks. As you enjoy medium roasts with a lower acidity than dark roasted coffees - and many people do, I do myself on occasion - I'm wondering if you have tried the national brands of Chock Full o'Nuts (which ranked quite high in a Fine Cooking taste test a few years ago) and....Dunkin' Donuts. DD is making big ripples in the San Francisco Bay Area with a report by a Millennial blogsite that was just published yesterday. They included DD for a joke in a taste test against three of the highest-regarded new artisanal coffee roasters (so new they are post-Blue Bottle, who has gone from coffee cart to Establishment specialty in less than 3 yrs). DD came in second - no small feat! I've had all three artisanal coffees, and they're very good indeed. The short column from Eater SF is linked below. We have one of the coffee combo grinders but since I just learned how to make a proper pot a few weeks ago we have only ground it a few times....but....we did by 10lbs of beans from our neighbor who has the flower shop she was fixing a basket for a elderly couple she does stuff for that love the coffee she sells and accidently ordered beans instead soooo instead of sending them back Brian bought it....so I did like my mom and put them in ziploc bags in the freezer.....LOL Stacy

I have my feet propped up on my parents' original coffee table right now. It is a very solid oak table and fits my den just perfectly. I rescued it from their basement about 45 years ago. They had moved on to a bigger house and have a huge marble coffee table. Funny how many childhood memories I have related to that table. It was in the living room, the same room as the tv and where we all gathered. The kids would sit on the floor and color or play on top of that table. There were no decorative items. In our old Christmas card photos, the three of us were sitting on this table, in order of our age. The dog sat alongside. The table had a leather covered insert that was destroyed long ago. I refinished the table and replaced the insert with a piece of glass. It has a drawer and a lift-up compartment that are still decorated with our childhood scribbling. Our artwork that has survived for 60 years! Kind of like cave drawings.

Bob, I think you've experienced what MANY people do when traveling and eating food, drinking wine, etc.; which I think is a fine demonstration that how much you enjoy when you're eating is only partially dictated by how good something actually is. Company and atmosphere can actually matter much more than the taste of the food you're consuming (ask anyone if that bottle of wine they had on their honeymoon on Italy tasted as good as the bottle they brought home, or scoured local wine shops for 6 months later). What I see here is actually a two part confirmation of the supposed "foofaraw" -- one, that freshly ground beans are one of the most important factors in determining the quality of the cup (you received ground coffee samples which go downhill in a matter of hours); and two, sweating the details when it comes to coffee matters. Your host has probably tried a number of different brewing methods (sock, boiling, FP style, etc.) and settled on that particular method for the tools on hand (e.g. a really coarse grinder) and the beans available. Of course, this isn't to belittle your experience in Trinidad! I'm sure the coffee was wonderful - something that many of the coffee lovers among us are ever pursuit of, which is why we sweat the foofaraw, because it does matter. Oh, and to contribute to the discussion, I use a Rancilio Rocky grinder and it's quite nice. I originally bought it for espresso, but discovered that I care a lot about the grind in all the kinds of coffee I drink. It was a wonderful discovery to notice that my FP was MUCH more enjoyable with an extremely consistent grind and very little fines.

Kat, I have one and I think it makes fresh, tasty coffee, but it's never been strong enough. I think us West Coasters like our coffee stronger than most. Pete's is my favorite. I'm hoping Keurig and Pete's get together soon.
Next time I'm at BB&B I'll look for the tree hugger, that sounds promising.

I rarely use my Keurig now. I use it for a quick cup of hot water for tea or instant oatmeal. I still use the drip coffee maker most of the time. I have a really hard time throwing all those little plastic, not biodegradable, cups into the trash.

I'm a strong coffee lover also and very picky! We have the 3 cup size Keurig and use the Newman's Own Special Blend Extra Bold from Costco. I use two kcups, one brewed at the medium 8oz size and one at the 6oz small, to fill my beloved 20oz Alladin insulated coffee mug. Topped up with milk and zapped for 30 seconds in the microwave gives me the BEST cup of coffee I've ever had anywhere - coming from years as an executive chef who had busboys trained to hand me triple shot lattes on the hour :)

I'm sticking to my Krups drip coffeemaker w/thermal carafe. I'm too cheap to pay fifty cents to a dollar for one cup of coffee somebody else measured out and ground who-knows-when. Also concerned about landfill.

IMO they should *give* these machines away; the money's in selling the 'supplies'.

Came home from Maui with my Kona-blend beans, but am not a coffee nut. We make four cups in the morning and drink it *then*. I can see that the single-serve would be superior if you drink coffee throughout the day. DH and I prefer a pot of tea in the afternoon. (Not teabags.)

LOVE my Keurig and yes, you pack that mini gold filter to the top and it's a couple more, ounces(?), than what comes in the K-cups.

Do you folks take your coffee black?

If you use sugar/cream ...

... I wonder whether you may be troubled by the liquid melting the spoon that you use to stir it?

However, I think I'll just stick to my cuisinart drip
thermal caraf.... and just make 1/2 pot in the mornings.
doc wants me to cut it back... I mix organic swiss water
decaf and reg. organic...

tourant! that sounds like a LOT of work! lol
