Southern Living Subscribers, Need help!

I have been a lurker here for ages, I am now in desperate need of some assistance and knew that this was just the place to turn. In the recent February Southern Living there was an article page 56-58 "Shades of Green". I have placed a call to the decorator with no response yet, I can't stop thinking about the fabric on the bolster pillow (pg. 57) on the bed and the bathmat(pg. 58)and wondered if anyone out there might know where to find either of them?? I went online and attempted to retrieve the pictures to post here with no luck. I would so appreciate any response!!

Wow! I had just looked at that magazine about 2 mins before I read your post! Can;t help you with your question but I think that room is gorgeous. I really loved the WTs.

Can you take a picture of the magazine pages and post them? I've been looking for fabric for the last few weeks and have scoured just about every online fabric store - I may have seen it in my travels but need a photo to go from.

Kind of a newby, yes, I could tell. But some of us like to help folks like you. Where do you live? Big Bear? La Jolla? Heber? Victorville? It makes a big difference in SoCal. How do you have the sprinklers set? How often and for how long? You're going to need to test the sprinklers to see how long it takes to apply 1 inch of water. Put some tuna or cat food cans in the yard and turn on the water. Time how long it takes to fill all the cans. Remember that number. Can you post some pictures of your grass(es) and weeds? It would be rare if your soil had a lot of clay in it. It would not be rare at all if it had a lot of salts in it that act like clay. Only a good soil test can tell you that. I'm not suggesting that you need a soil test, I'm just saying you can't be too sure of the soil content by what others tell you. Whether this is salvageable and how depends on where you live and what you have. Seeding can be tricky, but we can help with that, too. If you do it wrong, you'll get bad results every time. There are a few ways to do it right and a lot of ways to do it wrong.

Hi, I know this is an old thread, but hoping OP (or others) have gained some experience with growing in/around Brookings. My dad spent most of my life 7 miles north of Brookings. He recently passed and left my brother and I his house and property. It's up a hill, less than a mile from the ocean. Heavily wooded, but actually often above the fog line in summer; sometime you can literally drive 150 ft. down the road and end up enrobed in fog while my dad's place is sunny. I always thought it was much colder up there than where I live (San Francisco Bay Area), as my dad frequently commented on how much more I could grow here than he could up there. However, after some research I see it's almost same USDA zone (Brookings is 9b, I'm 10a), and the same Sunset Zone 17. I have been successfully growing stone fruit, many species of passionflower, and a ton of other fruits, veggies, and flowers in my foggy, cool east bay yard. Tomatoes are a crapshoot, though cherry varieties usually fare well. I'm not clear why my dad seemed to think he couldn't grow many of those things on his land, and would love to hear from those who are successfully growing stone fruit and subtropicals in and around Brookings. Gardening and growing food is one of my biggest passions, so if the growing conditions up there are pretty much the same as what I'm accustomed to, that would probably be the deciding factor for me in keeping the property.

NutraSweet = artificially sweet Barbie Doll = not natural or real looking I have no other comment regarding my comment made TO CAMERON about her not being a "NutraSweet-Barbie Doll Woman." However, here's a comment almost as totally unrelated to my comment as was that little snip: NutraSweet - The mother of one of my daughter's best friends invented the formula for NutraSweet years ago and named it. She lives in South Carolina. She sold the patent and they are very, very rich now. I am so happy for her! I told her it was great because it also added another word to my extensive vocabulary. She thought that was outrageously funny. :) Freda, I love their articles. Hey! How come the magazine is so small now in dimension, and there are so few pages as compared to their previous issues? Are they downsizing or was this just a special mid-summer addition? Whata whata???

I've subscribed to Southern Living since l983 and had issues sent to my mom the last ten years or so, as well. This year she asked me not to renew her subscription for the same reasons that many of you have mentioned; I have felt the same way for a very long time. I can't remember the last time I did more than flip through the magazine for about three minutes and then toss it. So, we no longer receive Southern Living. Perhaps part of the reason is that after over twenty years, nothing is "new." I do think that as in the case of HGTV, a different generation is in charge and it's obvious we're not on the same page. Traditional Home, Veranda, Blueprint, Domino and others are magazines that are more interesting to me at this time; however, several years ago I canceled Traditional Home because it was so bland and boring. I suppose at one time or another they all reinvent themselves, like we do from time to time.

Found the online pictures but can barely see the fabrics. Is it the striped bolster?

The link to the stripes page doesn't seem to come up. If you go the search function at the top of their page and type in stripes, you get a whole page of them. Looks close to beach umbrella black or biscayne bay.

Oh that is lovely, but I haven't seen anything like it. Maybe squirrel is right and it's been constructed.

I happened to be searching for "chocolate lattice" fabrics yesterday and came across this site. When I looked at this post today I remembered seeing a fabric kind of like the one you like. This is a custom purse maker, but maybe they can help you. It is not exact, but similar (see "Mocha stripe"). Good luck!

The Feb issue features the Idea Houses. You can purchase the Southern Living Idea House magazine and it will include detailed info on items in each room. As far as decorator fabrics though, sometimes it will list the maker and sometimes direct you to the designer.

ps. Was just looking at the Feb issue tonight while soaking in my slipper tub.

It appears that the stripes have polka-dots, and that suggests to me that perhaps it is constructed as Squirrel suggested, to coordinate with the larger polka-dotted pillows. It kind of looks like a wide green stripe on cream with black narrow stripes, and then the polka-dotted ribbons added.

Keep in mind, too, that sometimes the items shown in a shoot aren't currently available, but from a 'stash' that designers and photo stylists keep to use.

Just wanted to thank everyone here for all the responses. I did hear back from the designer's ofice yesterday, rug is from Ballard Designs and is discontinued! The fabric I am waiting to hear back today but I too imagine it was customized with ribbons! I will post when I hear from them again to confirm! Thanks again!!

Oops. Too long in hot bath affects woman's brain! :) I was looking at the Feb 2008 issue before getting into the tub, at which time I was browsing the Aug 2007 issue which has the Idea Houses. Sorry for the confusion. Good luck on the fabric.
