I am glad you guys liked the pics. Wendy, I didn't really have to do anything to the butterfly. As soon as this plant flowered, they were just all over it. Even when I got up close they didn't move. The flowers are kind of small and the foliage is big and tall. Probably 6 feet tall. Bug, you are too good on the plant ID:) I didn't know a cynara was an artichoke, but now that you mention it, it sure looks like one. I got the green pot at Lowe's. It was marked down to 8.99, so I got two. Deanne, my mondarda does eventually get mildewy, but I can't help it, I really like it, and it likes my yard. Plus the hummingbirds come every year, and I don't have to fill up my hummingbird feeder.. which I ususally don't get to. D.

What a great story! It's good to be reminded from time to time why we garden, too. We use to have one of the older wiser old school gardeners hereabouts. He ran a garden shop all his life. You could haul a problem specimen in anytime and he was thrilled to tackle the question. A few years back, old Barney folded up his tent and went Home. . . I sure miss that all that wisdom.

I just have to add this.... Although I'm packing, I decided I should have a little treat. It is my bday after all. So I cooked some shrimp I had in the freezer for shrimp cocktail. Of course I had to run to the store to get horseradish. (rant to follow.) I bought Silver Springs Extra Hot. OMG! It's freakin' HOT!!! My sinuses will be clear until 2040! It is made in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. (One of my favorite names for a city..isn't it lovely?) But wow! What are they doing in Eau Claire to produce this firey stuff? Anyway, I poured myself a martini and shared my treat with Daisy. She loves the tails :) It's funny to watch her eat them, because instead of just a grab/swallow like she does with most table scraps, she chews them. crunchcrunchcrunchcrunch... Now for the rant. I only use horseradish for shrimp cocktail and the rare occasion when I have a roast beef sandwich. As you know, horseradish has an expiration date. Not because it goes bad, but loses the heat. So WHY don't they sell it in teeny jars as an option? 6 oz is the smallest I can find, so I've thrown out more horseradish than I care to remember. Why don't they sell a 2 oz jar? Or one of those room service size jars like jelly comes in? I know...you're gonna tell me to make my own. OK, bring on the recipes :) OY!!! My sister just called, and she is bringing me some LAMB CHOPS! I love them! I guess packing can wait!

Well THANK YOU everyone!! I miss you guys too - I just don't cook much these days. My job is settling down a lot though, so I hope to crack out the spatulas again soon.

I had a nice bday ~ last night went out with family to Jilly's Cupcakes - had a killer brisket sandwich and a big ol' honkin' mocha cupcake. Tonight went out with my best friend to an Asian joint, where I am certain I ordered the absolute HOTTEST dish on the menu. Whew! Then we went back to my house and had Gooey Butter Cake (a St. Louis thing), and Latte Choc. Chip ice cream :) I look forward to tomorrow at work, because I am pretty certain there is a coffee ice cream cake in my future! (hmmm...is there a theme here?)
