counter height for pass through

We're in the process of planning our soon to begin kitchen renovation. We'll be putting a large pass through in connecting the kitchen to the family room and will be putting the main table in the family room. There will be a bar type seating area that extends into the family room from the kitchen (kitchen sink in the middle).

My question is- how high should the bar part (on the other side) be? We think we want it at the same height as the kitchen counter (we'll be passing all dishes over this counter), but the architect suggested making it 4 inches higher to hide sink clutter from view from the other side.

For anyone with this set up- do you have the other side at same height or higher? Do you like the height? We see the benefit of hiding the clutter around the sink, but I'm worried if we have to constantly reach across the counter to get to the dishes on a higher counter it will be more of a pain?
