Whirlpool vs Samsung/LG fridge: Importance of local service?
Comments (4)We bought an LG CD fridge when we arrived in New Mexico last year. When it seemed to be running a little high in temperature, we called the LG customer service (an 800 number), and they sent out a local repairman without delay. He came a day after we called, checked it out and told us everything was fine. As it's a high efficiency fridge, it adjusts slowly to changes in set temperature but it gets there in the end. I'm sorry I can't recall the model number, but it was highly rated by AJ Madison, and it's been perfect in the 6 months we've owned it. I think list was a little over $2000. We also bought LG washer/dryer from local Home Depot. We have an 800 customer service number for these too, and were told they have local service support. As nothing has malfunctioned, we haven't had to call so I don't know how good the service is. So far, based on our experience, I would not hesitate to recommend either product. If the appliances are well made, perhaps you won't need a lot of service? Cheryl...See MoreWhirlpool vs LG French Door Refrigerator
Comments (3)DO NOT BUY LG REFRIGERATOR. I had a new LG French Door refrigerator (LFD21860st)installed at the end of May 2007. The main control pad did not work. We were unable to control the temp on the fridge so a lot of our food freezes in the refrigerator. Here's a break down of what happened: 1) Called LG who gave me 4 service providers to call. Two of which did not provide service in my area - White Plains, NY - really not that remote, right? 2) Finally had one provider come out - determined I needed two new electronic boards - after discussing problem with an LG tech. Provider said he would order them. Waited two weeks. Did not hear from the provider. Found out that the service provider no longer serviced LG. 3) Got a new service provider out. LG did not send the service provider both electronic boards - and so the fridge was not fixed. And in fact, by replacing one of the boards now our water dispenser does not work. Requested the service provider to order correct parts again. 4) Service provider said LG refused to allow them to order parts. Called LG and representative LIED and said the repair person was no longer a service provider (even though he was at my house less than a week ago trying to fix my fridge) and we needed to use another service provider. 5) Called service provider who said LG was refusing to pay them the amount required to fix the problem, but he was still a service provider. Don't know why because it is still under warranty. 6) Am now waiting for LG to call back with an appropriate service provider to fix the fridge All in all - this whole process has taken more than 2 months (so far) and it is driving me crazy. If I could I would throw the refridgerator out the door and buy something else. But, I am hoping (with not much hope) that I will have a properly working refrigerator in a week. Regardless of what happens with me and my fridge, I hope you tell everyone NOT to buy LG. I'm even going to call the appliance store (who does know a bit about my situation and has tried to help) and ask them not to carry their brand. Good luck everyone!...See MoreLG 2688 vs. LG 2487 Washer
Comments (27)The better thing about going to purchase the LG washer/dryer at Best Buy rather than Home Depot is the warranty. At Best Buy, I purchased the LG 2487 and the 7177 dryer and a warranty for 5 total years covering everything was $200. Try getting that at Home Depot! Also, Best Buy has their own service team wheras Home Depot has to use an outside source which to me means more people to have to go through if there is something major that has to be replaced. My experience with Best Buy warranty's in past has been exceptional. And, even though they aren't supposed to honor it, I bough my machines on sale and used the 12% off coupon (which is supposed to be off regular selling price and on one item only per purchase) on the set and including the stands for both. Got a tremendous deal and nobody could have beat the deal we got (and warranty was a great piece of mind from Best Buy). I have had problems with warranty work from Expo (a Home Depot company in the past). Anyway, machines are great and we have had them since last November (2006) without a problem. Just make sure when your wash is done, you leave the washing machine door open to dry out or you may have the same problems the Maytag Neptune we replaced had with mold. The drainage on the LG machine is great and so far, no problems....See MoreNeed new Washer LG or Whirlpool
Comments (4)The LG WT7800CW is a top-rated top-load washer in Consumer Reports testing but is not sold in Canada. The slightly smaller (in capacity) LG WT7100CW performed as well as the WT7800CW and is CA$750 vs CA$1099 for the LG WT7850HVA. I would ask for data to support the statement, "I would not recommend..." by @Toronto Veterinarian above....See Morepegandken
