That's what I keep telling myself, anyway.

Remember my oldest son announced his engagement about a month ago. Last night they were out to watch the Super Bowl with us and casually mentioned that they'd like to have the wedding here. June 14th is the date. They are both very quiet and introverterd and want a small simple wedding. 35 to 40 people max. They're talking about a mid-morning wedding with a light lunch afterwards.

We live on 5 acres out in the country. It's the dairy farm that I grew up on. We own the building site, Dad sold the cropland back in 1999. I like to garden and it's very helpful that my brother owns a greenhouse but, I was really thinking of cutting back this year.

What use to be the granary we've converted into an art studio for DW. Attached to the back of it is my lath house. Just out of view to the left is a large sugar maple. That's where they want the ceremony. They'd like the lunch served in the studio and we'd set up chairs around the yard.

But, what if it rains?

Make a plan B!
Can the ceremony be done in the studio? Might be crowded, but it would be dry?

Or, have plenty of tarps, and cover the lath house if necessary?

Your yard would be a beautiful place for a wedding and reception. Aren't the chances for rain slim in the morning and early afternoon. Here we almost never get rain until late afternoon in June. Gosh, if you would landscape my yard, you'll could have it here. We have been in a drought for years.

The 'no mixing sprinkler styes rule' doesn't have much to do with pressure, its about application rate and not having one section soggy while the other section is still too dry. Most drip sysems can handle 50 psi, if you're going to mix the zone anyway, I wouldnt bother with a pressure reducer unless your using some real cheap drip brand, it won't affect the amount of water coming out of the emmitters. It's easier to mix a zone with rotors than say spray heads. You can usually nozzle your rotors down so that less water comes out, nozzleing them up might not work, depends on how much of your availabe water is being used already. Drip emmitters also come in sizes. Usually .5, 1 and 2 gpm. really some testing is needed. How long do you usually run the lawn zone and how often? You'll need to choose an emitter size to water your shrubs in the same amount of time. There are also other styles of garden emitters that are individually adjustable, often you can shut them right off, but i find most of them put out a lot of water... if I have to mix a spray zone, thats what I typically use. I'm a university professor and tend to over think these things! I seem unable to just happily follow the directions :) Understandable. But it reminds me of a current TV commercial that asks "you wouldn't trust your auto mechanic to clean your teeth so why would you ask your dentist about tires?" It is impossible for any of us to be fully informed specialists in all subjects. Sometimes, like it or not, we just have to accept that those who ARE specialists in their chosen field, be it astrophysics or food science, know what they are doing and trust in their information. :) Check with your local extension office about taking a MFP (Certified Master Food Preserver) course for starters. You can cook in a pressure canner. Many of the bigger ones are made of aluminum, though, which is reactive, and you might not want to cook a highly acidic recipe in it. If you think you might be doing pressure canning a lot, you might want to consider WAFCO's All American line. They are built like a tank and will outlast you--your great grandkids will fight over it. Sorta pricey, though, but absolutely top quality. I had the 921, and gave it to a relative and bought the 930. The 921 was fine, but it could only process 7 quart jars at once; the 930 can process 14 quart jars at once, so it nearly doubled my efficiency. What is the vertical rise from the meter box to the house? What is the diameter of your water supply line from the meter to the house? What is the physical length of your water supply line from the meter to the house? how many bathrooms do you have?

Maybe you can rent one of those large tents/canopy, that the sides can drop drown. Just in case the weather turns bad.

You think the snow will melt by June? LOL! How exciting, I love outdoor weddings.

Ron, I think I would rent a Tent, just in case. I'm sure flowers will not be a problem for you...better start those seedlings.

I'd rent a small tent or canopy too, I doubt it will be hot, but some peeps can't take the sun on them. This way you'd be covered rain or shine!

What a beautiful place for a wedding!! Your flowers are wonderful and it looks so serene and peaceful, just the right atmosphere for a small intimate wedding. I hope you will keep us updated on the plans and I'll look forward to pictures when it happens.

I think a tent is in order too. You'll need to rent chairs too anyhow (although you may be able to borrow them from your church or another organization).

It's a lovely place for a wedding!

Yes, I agree with everyone, get a tent in case it rains.

It will be beautiful and DO think "Lots of pressure!!!" (didn't you say, you'd do the opposite?)

It's going to be a small wedding, remember?!

oh i love the rustic look and it will make a fantastic setting for the wedding...

i'd change the menu to a brunch...i have a really good slow cooker cassarol that you wouldn't have to "mess" with since it cooks all night, lol...

i think i'd go for a tent, too...you never can trust spring/summer weather...(at least as for backup)

we had about 40 at dd2's destination wedding and it was a very managable guest list.

since the bride's family usually "do" the wedding, what do they think of the setting, etc?

When the date rolls around and the weather forecast is wet but not cold, rent some of those big gazebo type tents. If there's a possibility of cold weather it wouldn't hurt to have an alternate location...

A large tent would make a lot of sense in case of rain.
we have not met the brides family yet. we'll have them out for a meal soon. Of course it will be difficult to get a "feel" for the setting this time of year. This is an old slide that I scanned but a much more accurate look for this time of year. But, most of it should be melted by June.
