I also considered this one.

It's the perfect size at 24" tall by 26" round but it matches my dining table in the adjoining room. I'm also not sure if the pine, even when oiled, would complement the gray tones of the elm.

I suggest you find a thrift store or salvage shop. Look for a table with a great base and then marry it to a top that fits your needs. You will be way ahead dollar wise and what you end up with is a unique one of a kind piece.
It's not hard to do.

Thanks, Carol. I've looked all around the local antique shops/thrift stores and Craigslist for the last several months but haven't had any luck.

I'm in Southern California and it seems like we don't have the great supply of vintage finds that I see down south and back east when I visit family. The furniture I do have from the local flea markets and antique shops cost just as much as retail (I still prefer vintage though and when I buy new I like it to look old).

I do find a lot of my furniture on CL but haven't yet found an end table that works for me.

I don't think id use a round table in the spot you describe. I think square would look better.

That's a great shop bestyears. I was going to suggest finding someone who could make one. That etsy shop has some great prices - even with shipping it might be worth it. I'd check with him!

kitschykitch - I was wondering if I should use a round vs square end table. Is there a reason you think the square would would work better between the couches? I have a rectangular one now and it's not very functional. There's no space for the drawers to open and it's too far from one couch, too close to the other. Also, since the table will "float" in the room I'd like it to be perfectly square or round and attractive from all sides.

I did contact a vendor for this reclaimed elm pedestal table and was told that the top could be made larger than 20". Now I'm wondering if the pedestal is a bit too ornate for the straight lines of the coffee table. Maybe the matching end table would be a better choice. Would be easier anyway :-)

Judd, I didn't see where you said you wanted a round table between your sofas.

If I had to do it all over again, I never would have bought round end tables, no matter how pretty they are.

My furniture floats and the round tables usually look awkward, I'm constantly piddling with them. Plus, they don't give you much room for a lamp, book, glass, glasses, kleenex, remote....lol.

Anybody want to buy two round tables with ugly matching lamps? :)

I agree that if you have your sofas meeting in an L shape, a square table might be better. Check out the Durham tables at Ballard Designs. I have the square end table in my LR and I love it.

mtnrdredux, oakley and sueb20 - thank you for the input re round vs. square. I get it. Also, my table lamp has a curvy base and it might work better with a square tabletop.

pps - that is a pretty table. The base is a bit too ornate for me but I love the marble tabletop. Maybe I should also keep my eye out for a pedestal table with a square top.

There's no price listed and I'm sure I can't afford it but I like this one! The square reclaimed elm top ties it into my coffee table and I love the antiqued grey base.

Why not try to find an interesting base like an old metal sewing machine base (I have this for my kitchen table) and have a top made from reclaimed wood? We actually have a table with a black iron sewing machine base with a butcher block top in our laundry room...purchased for about $40 from a consignment shop.

I definitely would not do the matching end table, but that's just me. I think something that doesn't match will be much more interesting . . .

tina - I'm tempted to make it easy for myself by getting the matching end table (which I do like) but I know my instinct is agreeing with you :-) For someone who naturally leans towards symmetry, it's harder for me to visualize what might work instead.

I like sue and carol's suggestion of finding a base I like and having a top made. I've been unsuccessful in finding an already made table, but this is doable. There's a local wood supplier that sells reclaimed elm and I can ask DH to make the tabletop.

Based on some of the comments, I started looking for a square table and found this one by Aiden Gray side table. It's similar to my coffee table but perhaps not too much of a match. Love the parquet wood but of course it's too much $$. I also wonder if the narrow legs would look okay between 2 large couches or if I need a table with more mass.

I did find this site that has a tutorial for making a table top. DH is very DIY and has all the tools so I may ask if he's up to the project. Just need to find a base. Case iron table legs are not cheap on ebay.

I found that exact Aiden Grey table at arhaus furniture for $500. I can't figure out how to copy and paste on this tablet. Go to the website and search for Reynolds.

Angc - that does look like the exact same table (although it says its an Arhaus exclusive) and $499 is much lower than I've seen it anywhere else on the web. But - the shipping costs are outrageous!

I added it to my cart and entered my zip code just to find out how much it would be and and the shipping came up to an additional $499, for a total of 998! That's got to be a mistake, right? I can't see it costing $500 to ship a small table. Too bad there aren't any stores near me.
