Layout help - Can we fit an island in my mil's kitchen?

My in-laws bought a new build home...here are the plans for the kitchen. The person at the design center told them there was not enough room to fit an island, and that their only option was an upgrade for an optional breakfast bar (the thumbprint shaped piece that sticks out, which looks odd to me). I think they can easily fit in a 3' (or perhaps 2.5') by 5' island, which I've loosely drawn in in the plans. If they didn't go with the optional breakfast bar, there would be no wall at all at the bottom portion (which lays at the right side of the "sharp tip" of the breakfast bar); there would only be a thin wall between the kitchen and great room (the left side of the sharp tip of the breakfast bar). So they could easily fit in around 3' of aisle on either side of the island - or slightly larger aisles (around 3'2") if they decided to make the island 2.5' wide.

Am I right on this, or am I missing something here?
