What trash can pull-out do you have?

Hi Everyone! I have to purchase an after-market trash can pull out. I know I want the kind that the door attaches to so you just pull the whole thing out.

I see there are 2 basic kinds, those that mount/hold the can at the top and those that mount/hold the can at the bottom.

My question is, what do you have? Do you like it? Are there disadvantages/advantages to each?

I have the Rev-a-shelf bottom mount rev-a-motion double waste container in a 21 inch cabinet. The 2 cans are front and back rather than side by side. I got it on Rev-a-shelf's clearance section in bamboo, and saved a couple of hundred dollars. It came with the waste bins, but I exchanged them for smaller, lidded bins from Ikea, since they were too tall to also use the drawer in the cab, and I wanted to have lids on my trash and recycling.

Very easy to attach to the door, and it has a super pulling mechanism on it ('patent pending gas spring action') that pulls the waste baskets back into the cabinet with just a slight push. I found the Rev-a-Shelf quality to be very good. I'm very happy with mine.

My first trash pullout and I LOVE IT. Seriously, it is one of my favorite things in the kitchen! Ours is the kind that that holds from the bottom. No negatives yet. We have smaller cans because the cabinet is only 12" wide, but enough for a trash and recycling bin. YAY!

I, too, have a stainless with a foot pedal. I was all obsessed with having a pullout in my new kitchen so that it would be hidden, but then realized how much it would annoy me to not have the foot pedal! I'm keeping mine in my new layout and we kept a little nook for it. Mine's round, not semi circle. It's sort cute. It IS annoying, because the top gets dirty (and grosses me out) but I guess that's what clorox wipes are for!! BTW - I gave in and bought the wipes in the new decorative boxes. They technically 'belong' under the sink, but we have them out so much, I figured that the pretty box was better to stare at than the bright yellow regular clorox lable! Patty

Our trash pullout has two bins and we use both...one for trash & one for recycling. "Tall Kitchen bags"/13 gallons fit pretty well in them and we find that they're just right. Trash doesn't stay more than a day or two and so it doesn't have time to start "smelling". Years ago we tried using a large trash can (30 gallon), but it took too long to fill it...yes, it would "smell". We found that the 13-gallon bags are a good size...small enough that they fill up b/f starting to smell but large enough that we're not emptying them constantly, that large items will fit, and that one bag is less plastic than several small ones for the same volume/capacity.

Isn't 13 gal the standard kitchen bag size? That's what I use, and my trash can measures about 10 x 14 on top and 17" high. My garbage bin came with the pull out, and the pullout works like you say - there is a shallow base that holds the bin, as well as metal bars halfway up to keep the bin steady. I have empty space behind mine where I keep the garbage bags, among other things. I think it might be rev-a-shelf, that's what I think my cabmaker uses. But I don't think a 13 gal bag will go in anything much bigger, not 20" deep anyway. Are you thinking of the 30 gal trash bags?

There is a true "swing-out " that I have seen but the picture above is not it. It is a case of the can being attached to the door and so it comes out of the cabinet when the door opens. I can't think where I saw this, maybe Ikea? The downside IMO is that you can only have one container coming out -- in a pullout (if you choose) you can have 2 containers in the pullout. The thing that I do like about the 2nd picture is there is a built in lid that doubles as a shelf above the bins. That Rev-a-shelf unit is pricey, though!

We have the double soft close bottom wood mount from rev a shelf. Love it b/c we can open a few inches and it closes back up nicely. Also you can find it for cheaper on other sites like hardware hut and other places

We have a family of five. In our last kitchen, we put in a pull out. A serious one. Like a full size can you would leave on the curb.

Loved it so much we did it again.

Thanks for all the input! I have ordered a bottom mount pull out from Rev a shelf. The soft close was more than our budget allowed, so I went with a regular closing one. My concern was the sturdiness of pulling on the door with the bottom mount, but looks like it's pretty secure...we'll see!

Clueless--What is yours? My cabinet is also very narrow, so I can't have a 20" one like rev-a-shelf. Any suggestions on where to look?

Mine are top mount and also a fair size, 2 of them in a 27"x30" cabinet. I much prefer the top mount for ease of cleaning (no bending down, just take out the cans & swipe along the top). We use one for recycling and one for garbage.

There are several narrower pull-outs. Ours is for a 15" cabinet. I have given you a link for one that only requires a minimum 8.5" opening. This site also has Rev a shelf for all size cabinets.

I also didn't have a lot of room to do a big pullout between my deeper sink and where the pipes needed to go. Nor did I want to give up other cupboards.

Finally, I risked a purchase at the Container store. This Simple Human pullout, you can move the two little shelves in it, and I have my trash can in it now. The trashcan I use is 15" high and 9"wide.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend this as a first choice, but it's working for me.
