Just a hint. Move your current table out of the room and lay out both the dimensions with tape measure -table and the table with the leaf extension mark the floor with a post it or whatever. I was really surprised how much more room a round table consumed vs. my former oblong DR table. It was very deceiving looking at the tables, but taking our table out of the room and really measuring the space well, made our decision much easier. Hopefully, you are not as spacially challenged as I was. Every table I loved and I was so sure would fit, would not. I drove DH nuts in my search.

As far as the leaf, many rounds have the "butterfly" leaf which folds out from underneath the table. Not a great look IMHO with both vertical and horizontal lines going on. That look drove me nuts since I didn't want a table that I'd have to cover. If you are not bothered by the lines or are going to keep the table covered, then I say get one with the leaf. It depends on maximum # of people you want to accommodate at the table.

First I would figure how many I want to seat and then figure the dimensions. Once you have a diameter that is the right size, you can see if it fits in your space. I have a 60" round that seats six very comfortably. Of the ones you linked to, I love the first one the best!

Thanks for all the responses. I am attaching the final choices. I would love to hear your feedback. I am still not totally sold on the round table because of the space issue.

If you are going for a round table with a pedestal make sure you are happy with how far the chairs slide under the table without being stopped by the "feet" on the pedestal. I found a really neat pedestal table at a local thrift store that I love, but hubby hates how the chairs stick out. I think even with the second one you posted without "feet" might have the same problem though too. It may just be that round tables don't leave enough room for chairs to be pushed all the way in because of the narrowing in the center where the chairs are their widest.

I'm a fan of round tables of any sort but I love them with upholstered chairs. Something about the open back of a chair with a round table makes it to stick like looking for the back. I know you didn't ask about the chairs so forgive me.
I agree about the pedestal and making sure the legs fit properly. I've had two round tables and now I have a rectangular one and I find I like it more as nothing touches my legs when I'm seated. Plus if crumbs fall I don't have to move the whole table to clean up like I did with the round one.

Very good point about the feet. Choosing a table can be such a challenge when you are trying to stay within a budget ($1500 range would be nice). The darker table that I posted has the most comfortable ladder back chairs. I just am not sure about the dark tobacco color for a kitchen. I prefer more of a honey tone. I also love the upholstered chairs. I even saw some leather chairs in a magazine I thought could be cool, but not sure about putting them in a kitchen or the price! Yayagirl - What did you mean when you were talking about the open back of the chairs? You said it makes it "to stick like looking for the back?" Can you clarify? Sorry! I keep rereading it and am not getting it. Is an open back a good thing or a bad thing? Thanks again?

I just replaced my old kit table for a beautiful round pedestal table. Love it but the top scratches soooo easily -- my old oak table was practically indestructible. Had glass cut to fit after DH put a 6 inch scratch in the top. I hate the glass top but it seems these new finishes are not very durable and I didn't want it to get any worse. Wish I would have gotten a distressed look.

Regarding open back, I was half asleep while typing haha.
I have found that vertical open back slats can be uncomfortable if they're not placed in the right way so make sure you sit in them for more than a few minutes as it's a big investment. If the slats are flat it's more comfy and if they're round it may be less. Then, when it comes to horizontal slats, I, personally, never find them comfortable. You're spending a lot of money and testing every thing is essential to a good outcome. If you did decide on a solid back, don't make the mistake that I made. I bought the table and chairs separately and when delivered and set up I found that the table was at my chest!!
I felt like a little kid and had to use them for years since money was tight in those days. Now I travel with all my measurements and a measuring rod when purchasing any furnishings. I love a honey wood with a Tuscan wall as it's more forgiving but you mentioned a new countertop some day so consider the color you would put on that and use a wood in the same tone for continuity.
