Cathy's (mustangs) Mocha Smoothie Recipe for C_d_L

Claire de Luna asked me to post Cathy's yummy recipe for iced coffee smoothie. Here it is.

First you make up a batch of the dry ingredients:

Ingredient-Measurement-Calories

Fat Free Half & Half - 8 tbls - 100

Instant Coffee - 1 tray - 18

Godiva Cocoa - 3 tbls - 110

HersheyÂs Cocoa - 1 tbls - 20

Splenda - 4 tbls - 0
Total - - 248

Put 8 tbls liquid half & half in blender

Put dry ingredients in blender (once you make a batch, you add 8 tbls of the dry mix)

Blend

Add one tray of coffee ice cubes ( I put the ice cubes in a ziploc bag and pound them to crush the cubes)

Blend to a smoothie consistency

Sounds good! How much sugar should I substitute for the 4 tablespoons of Splenda?

Oh! THANK YOU! I admit I was intrigued enough to e-mail Cathy and ask her myself, but I'm glad you shared the recipe so now everyone can have it. I think I'm going to love it!

John - just regarding your comment about feeding your cat tuna. Be careful! The problem with tuna is that it is completely lacking in taurine, an essential amino acid for cats. Cats who are deficient in taurine can become blind and develop cardiomyopathy. When cat food first started being manufactured and fed on a widespread basis in the late '50's/early '60s, the cats' requirement for taurine was not known, and a leading causes of death in cats at the time was cardiomyopathy caused by a lack of taurine. It is also the reason why cats should not be fed dog food, which is lacking in taurine. There is no problem with tuna as a treat or flavoring. But the cat should not fill up on tuna and consequently not eat cat food with the essential taurine. If you decide to make your own cat food, you have to be knowledgeable about all the vitamin/mineral/amino acid requirements of cats and have the food well balanced in these things. There are websites that have recipes that are good, or your vet might have recipes for home-made cat food. But don't just throw together some meat, rice and carrots, and think that's all they need. Actually, the perfect cat food, the one with the perfect blend of vitamins, minerals, and grains, is a mouse (cats are carnivores, but also derive benefit from the stomach contents of the mouse which has been munching on seeds and grasses in the wild). Manufacturers have been trying to duplicate the mouse nutritional values in cat food for years, but since they have to cut costs, and have to preserve the food for shelf life (via preservatives and/or excessive heating), they cannot possibly accomplish it. I understand your comment about wet cat food being "stinky", but it is unfair to impose your sensibilities on your cat. Wet food, from a brand that is higher in protein and low in carbs, is better for your cat. Would you want to eat cereal 24/7? Wet food is also better for your cat's kidneys, cause dry food requires the cat to drink a lot of water, which the cat often doesn't do, making the kidneys work much harder. Two high-quality manufacturers are Evo which makes low- or no-grain canned cat food, and Wysong, which does not heat its food excessively. Lou, yes I remember the bread basket with egg. It was the sweet bread dough. I see on the other thread you made it and it looks great. Did you ever make the noodle pudding with Anisette/anise flavoring? Thanks Terri, I think I'm the lucky one with her putting up with me for all these years. lol. Your helpers have such concentration putting the jelly beans on those cupcakes and love the pic of your helper chowing on the peep bunny. Cathy, $4 a flat......... swoon. I must say that Plant City has enabled me to have my banana strawberry smoothies year round these days and I love it. Our Acme will have sales of the quarts 2 for $5 and that's pretty good, but then they also come on sale $4 buy one get one free. That's when I stock up for my smoothies. Between you and David, now I want some strawberry shortcake though. On biscuits with unsweetened whipped cream.

Ya, you should be able to sub an equal amount of sugar.

Ok...I'm a little confused about the instant coffee/1 tray measurement. Do you make coffee from instant, then freeze it in an ice cube tray? (I'm assuming I could put my liquid Toddy coffee in an ice cube tray. Since I always add cream to my coffee anyway, couldn't I do it all at once in the tray? OH, maybe the cream needs to be liquid to blend the smoothie. Forgive me; I'm thinking out loud.) So...you're adding an entire tray of coffee ice cubes to make one smoothie? I guess you can tell I really want to do this!

CC, Yes as Terri says 1 to 1.

CdL, I am coffee challenged as Peppi, my coffee mentor will tell you. I make instant as I don't buy or make real coffee. I make a tray of instant coffee ice cubes which equals one cup. You are correct in stating that the cream is the liquid necessary to make the smoothie blend.

On a road trip last week I stopped at McDonald's for one of the Frappes for breakfast, it was almost like my mocha smoothie but not as rich but still good.

Here is my recipe which includes the recipe for making a batch of dry ingredients that I keep on hand.

MOCHA SMOOTHIE

Ingredients for Batch of Dry Mix:
1 Â 17.4 oz can Godiva Dark Chocolate Truffle Cocoa Mix
1 cup Unsweetened Dark Cocoa
4 cups Splenda-or to your liking

Mix dry ingredients very well. Store in airtight canister.

Individual Serving:
8 tbls of dry mix
Pinch of salt
8 tbls fat free half & half
1 tray coffee ice cubes (I pre-crush in a plastic bag)

Add half & half, salt, and dry mix to blender. Blend until smooth. Add coffee ice 1/3 at a time until smoothie texture.

Total calories=248

Bottom line-this is how I drink a cup of coffee!

Whoa, that sounds really good! I may have to make up a batch of this for my girls weekend in a few weeks!

(Had to make it quicker and easier for me for measuring purposes....8 T = 1/2 cup)

I do buy and make real coffee, although I don't drink it! I have it on hand for guests who want coffee. So, I have made real coffee specifically for the purpose of freezing it in ice cubes for this recipe. The other night I made coffee for guests and had leftover (purposely made too much!) which I promptly poured into ice cubes for this purpose.

May, yeahbut Peppi said my real coffee was on the shelf too long between coffee demanding guest to be any good.

Linda, I figured that out after making final adjustments. Thanks for reminding me to amend my recipe.
