What Is Your Favorite Salad Dressing?

I like a good poppy seed dressing, hubby likes only Thousand Island, and Amber likes the Catalina French. I like most of them except the ones that have a lot of vinegar in them. What is your favorite?

Here are a few: Green godess: 2 cups mayonnaise 4 anchovy fillets, minced 1 green onion, chopped 2 teaspoons chopped fresh parsley 2 teaspoons chopped fresh chives 1 tablespoon taragon vinegar 1 teaspoon chopped fresh tarragon Directions 1 Mix together mayonnaise, anchovy, green onion, parsley, chives, vinegar and tarragon. 2 Refrigerate until ready to serve and pour over favorite salad or greens. Makes 6 servings Fran Lozano's zesty blue dressing 4 oz Maytag blue cheese 1/2 cup olive oil 1 tsp grated lemon peel juice of ½ a lemon 1 cup sour cream 1 clove minced garlic. Mash cheese with fork and mix in oil until creamy. add remaining ingredients. Donns Delight 4 oz Maytag blue crumbled 1 cup of mayo ( I use Kraft) 3 oz ( about 1/3 cup) milk or cream 2 tsps sugar 2 tsps dried parsley 1 ½ Tablespoons lemon juice 1 ½ Tablespoons cider vinegar 1 Tablespoon fresh grated onion 1 Tsp Lee and Perrins worchestershire 1 tsp horseradish ½ tspoon garlic powder. Mix gently so as to leave some lumps, and serve over a green salad or on sliced tomatoes or cukes and onions or as a dip for raw veggies. Serves about 6 to 8 Basic vinaigrette 1T dijon mustard 1clove of garlic, crushed (or chopped very fine) 1T honey 1/3 cup cider vinegar Mix together, I use a wire wisk 1/2 cup olive oil...whisk the oil in a slow stream, whisking all the while Then I like to add some dried or fresh herbs....most of the time I use oregano...I Dont' add salt because of the salt in the mustard, and I pepper it on the plate or in the bowl....like they do in a restaurant!! Now, if you substitute catsup for the mustard and use brown sugar instead of the Honey, add a bit of cayenne and basil instead of the oregano, you have something Different. If you substitute mayonnaise for the mustard and white sugar for the honey and add some chopped chives or green onion tops...it's different still. Try doing the Mayonnaise thing and using walnut oil instead of olive oil....or substituting raspberry vinegar for the cider vinegar...or balsamic vinegar....or lemon juice....try adding some poppy seed or celery seed...for a fruit salad, leave out the garlic. The variations are endless....once you know the basics! And then there's my famous "dump and toss".. Mix your greens in a wooden bowl which has been rubbed with a cut clove of garlic, drizzle a little OVOO over it all and toss until every leaf is coated, sprinkle very lightly with salt and av ery little bit of sugar (brings out the flavor)...keep tossing...add herbs and seasonings of choice....tarragon, oregano, basil, marjoram, cilantro...whatever floats your boat....keep tossing....finish up with a sprinkling of the vinegar of choice....taste a leaf....perhaps add more vinegar or salt or sugar....and pass the pepper grinder. This works best with 2 people, one tossing and the other adding stuff, it's hard to go wrong and makes you look like such a pro in the kitchen! Linda C

My late husband was with the Maytag Blue cheese company...I collected lots of blue cheese recipes. Here are a few for salad dressing. Chase, I got this recipe from someone here. I think his name was Bob. Ella’s Raspberry Vinaigrette 1/2 cup mild oil, such as canola or vegetable oil 2 TB honey 1 scant TB Dijon mustard 3 TB red wine vinegar (white balsamic works well too) 1 tsp fresh lime juice salt and pepper to taste half of 1/2 pint fresh raspberries, about 1/2 cup* *Frozen berries, thawed, can also be used. Combine all ingredients except berries in a mini-chop, processor or blender and process briefly to emulsify. Add berries and process until liquid. Check seasoning by dipping a piece of the greens into the dressing to get a true assessment. (Strain to remove seeds) Makes about 1 1/4 cups. Store in fridge and shake or whisk well before using again. I dress my baby greens and then add roasted pecans. Btw, check your messages. ETA: It was Bob. raspberry-vinaigrette

I'm a bold flavor person but not necessarily with expensive seafood. No vinegar or horseradish or tomato paste... Lots of lemon. Dressed very simply. I lost my post last night via an edit....must have deleted when pups went nuts over a critter in the yard and DH home overly vocal/chatty as well. With Salomon, crab, cod cakes, I like most of the above on the side. Way less mayo by a 1/4. Shrimp salad and lobster rolls, one tBsp when a recipe calls for a 1/4 cup. Adds just enough creaminess like 2 % milk. Very clean with lemon also at the table. A shrimp boil we like a side dish/bowl rich remolade. Excellent as a choice. A google image search for 'seafood salad'... We prefer the Italian/Greek Mediterranean dressed seafood salads. Like on the right. Personal choice. No different than how one likes their burger or pizza...thick/thin. Deep dish/crispy. Tuna salad sandwiches also. I add so much veg, nuts, seeds, fruit. Some like it simple with lots of mayo. This pic from 2019, probably xmas eve....still in the stainless bowl, waiting to add scallops and shrimp that are poaching....to toss. Greek style with a bit of olives, capers, chopped cucumber I'm guessing. No mayo in this type salad.

We have home-made salad dressings. My favorite is a Green Goddess dressing from Ellie Krieger, made with avocado, buttermilk and tarragon.

Lynn, we also have a "house" vinaigrette that sounds similar to yours, but I have a question...what is white balsamic vinegar and does it taste differently than the brown variety?

Ever since I found Ken's Steak House Lite Northern Italian with Basil and Romano dressing, it's the only one I use. It has such a good flavor and doesn't taste oily. Even though it's a reduced calorie dressing, I think it tastes great. DH likes it too and he used to be a "Ranch only" kinda guy.

My first salad dressing I ever tried was Russian...loved that stuff...then I moved on to 1000 Island...now it's mostly Ranch...We have lots of different ones at work I'm always trying but we usually just keep Ranch at home...DH loves just vinegar and oil...ICK...

Cindy, it is a bit sweeter or not as pungent as the regular. I like both but actually prefer the regular more...but DH prefers the white....I prefer Sharyn's! LOL!!!

I also like the Litehouse chunky blue cheese dressing. I like it on salads and it's also great with wings!!!

i like most salad dressings depending on whats in the salad. i love sun dried tomatoe to marinate boneless chicken breasts in... we all call it f@@t chicken because its lethal to anyone sitting next to you lol.

Ken's makes many varieties of dressings; this is my favorite.

Ken's Sweet Vidalia Onion Vinaigrette; it is made with Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

I mix Dorothy Lynch and Ranch. Fattening!

Raspberry vinegarette is a close second.

I like Ken's Italian dressing. Kraft and Wish Bone just don't measure up for my tastes. Once in a while I enjoy ranch for variety.

Number 1, Dorothy Lynch! When I first moved from Nebraska to Minnesoa (about 14 years ago) you couldn't find in MN. But in a couple of years, it made it's way into the MN market. Then, I moved to Michigan almost two years ago. We can find it here but only the small bottles. When I visit my son in MY, I buy a case of the big bottles and bring it home with me.

I put olive oil and rice vinegar on the salad and then sprinkle it with the Good Seasons Italian seasoning mix.

A good Dijon Mustard and Honey mixed together. For store bought it would have to be Greek Feta Vinaigrette. Can't remember off the top of my head who makes it, but it comes in a tall triangular shaped bottle.

Most favorite - O'Charley's Honey Mustard
I also like Ranch and Poppy Seed. I will try most any of them and if they are too vinegery, I usually like them ok.

DH always wants Creamy French or Thousand Island. He is not an adventurous eater at all.

I make my salad dressings....my very favorite is sun dried tomato vinaigrette and DH's is the honey mustard dressing I make.
I really don't have a recipe for either.

Home made Caesar. It's the only time anchovies are acceptable ;o)

Home made balsamic vinaigrette made with Roland brand balsamic (3 leaves).

I try not to use pre-made salad dressing because home made is so easy to make, tastes better and it's much cheaper.

This one seems to 'wow' everyone. How I trapped DH!!!

LITE ITALIAN DRESSING

1/4 C red wine vinegar
1/2 C water
3 T olive oil
1 pkg. REGULAR Good Seasons Italian dressing
1 clove garlic

Then, I discovered this by accident - When dressing the salad with the above dressing, splash in a goodly amount of WishBone Balsamic Italian vinaigrette (to taste). DH is still eating salad!

depends on what's in the salad. I don't like the same dressing on every salad. I like a honey mustard when it's mostly iceburg topped with chicken. But if it's salad full of baby spinach, I like raspberry viniagrette. Greens with olives, tomatoes and feta, well it needs to be ceasar. I like it to go together.

Today tried Blueberry/pomegranite ...it was good too and I can't spell it either. I think it was Litehouse. Looked it up. Pomegranate. There!

I rarely use store bought salad dressing because I prefer to make my own vinagrette. If I buy a dressing it is usually the dry Hidden Valley Ranch mix that you add to milk and mayo and I have my sister bring that back from the US when she visits - I can't find it here anymore.
