Baking day! almost done......!!!

Today I took a vacation day to bake breads for the market tomorrow. Here is what I was able to make:

Honey Buttermilk white loaves - 3

Amish Wheat loaves - 4

100% Whole Wheat loaves - 3

Challah pan loaves - 4

Refrigerator Rolls - 4 dozen

Corn Muffins - 1 dozen

on hand - 8 mini loaves of Hawaiian Banana Nut bread

Thought I would give a shout out for 8" aluminum bread pans, you know the kind we bought when we were first setting up housekeeping? If any of you like to thrift or flea market shop, I'd love to find some 8.5" x 4.5" vintage loaf pans that can be cleaned up, $5 or $6 each (or less) and I will pay shipping. I'd like to get 4-6 of them. I just can't spend $15 for really good pans and it seems the 8" size is very hard to find and non-stick is not what I want.

I will look! It is supposed to rain all day tomorrow (hallelujah!) so I may hit the round of thrift stores while the guys clean the garage. That will be a great excuse ;-)

Thank you so much everyone. My DH, who, with me by his side, has done all of the remodeling was so patient with my selection of the backsplash. Funny thing is that I circled back to the exact same tile I originally wanted. After looking at so many, not quite right whites, I think I finally got over the cost issue. I also found that by working with a distributer of Sonoma directly in california the price was significantly better than locally in the midwest - even after shipping costs. Lake_girl - our cabinets are also not a pure white, a soft white (Crystal calls it frosty white). The sonoma creamy is a little "creamier" than our white and without the grout they looke even more cream. So I do believe that the grout can change the "look" of your white subways. Bee - I will be more than happy to measure. I want to say it is 49" or 50" inside the posts but I'll measure and let you know for sure. Red - (Makes me think of one of my current favorite shows, Once Upon A Time - Red Riding hood :) ) --- The longer pulls are also a top knob pull. It is the TopKnob M965. My Knobs are the Top Knob M354, and the bin pulls are Top Knob M364. All in Antique Pewter finish. I found the best prices at topknobs.com. Loved hunting the web for the best prices for this project. My floor tile is from Italy and the local distributer thought their distributer "carried" it, but it turns out they special ordered so our tile people wouldn't order it. I emailed someone in Italy off the manufacturers website and they sent me a list of all US carriers. It turns out that I got the same tile for over 1000.00 less, out of Florida, including shipping. So excited! That was out of www.fastfloors.com. Love it when you get great deals on a great product for your remodeling efforts!

Afineman--we got a Modernaire PS 11 (42 x 24). We were able to vent it outside. The hood is beautiful and effective. It is a bit noisy which I suspect is because we had to use an 8" air duct rather than the recommended 10" duct. We had a column in the way so be had no choice. Hydragea--we find that we have plenty of light. We did two pendants down the middle with undercabinet LED lights. The room is also open to the dining room so that probably helps too. I love my walnut cabinets more than I can express. I could stare at them for hours. They are so warm and homey. Even if the kitchen could be brighter if i had done white cabinets, I would never trade the walnut for white. A2--nice to hear from you. I was in Ann Arbor the weekend before last for my 30 year law school reunion. Thank goodness it wasn't this past weekend!!!!! I've been riding a lot too. We did a bike trip to Provence in July. Got a new bike too which I am really loving. How is your bathroom coming?

Tamara....I know this thread is old, but your kitchen is simply stunning! Are your cabinets Chantilly Lace? I read you kitchen delays and had to smile. I've lost weight and sleep over my darn remodel. Who knew how stressful this would be? If you used Chantilly Lace did you paint your ceiling the same. I just ordered my paint yesterday and I'm freaking out that it might be too bright.....

WMA89 - Oh, thank you for the island size info and posting a photo of those lanterns. They look really nice. Your kitchen is really nice! Love the range/hood area and how the tile and everything goes all the way up. Would you mind telling me the height from your pendants to the island? And the dimensions read that they are 22.5" Hx12.5" W. Are they really 22.5"? Thanks for the heads up about the light being bright. It was also mentioned on O that you could remove the side glass. Do you think that would help the issue? Would the light look ok without it? Does the glass slide down in from the top? - I know lots of questions! Busy - How high are your chandy's from your island? I don't think the can of air is going to be the answer either. It would probably be best to have help for taking it down to clean. I'm pretty good at rigging stuff up and making things work so I'm wondering if I can make a duster that I can run along the sides without taking it down as often. It wouldn't be a perfect cleaning, but it might make the time between thorough cleanings longer. This is what I keep telling myself! I'll wait to order anything until the appliances are in and the splash is painted. I'll revisit the idea of the other lanterns and some chandeliers. I like the hundi style enough that I'm hoping this is that one thing that may require more effort, but I'm ok with it because I like them that much.

I'll keep my eyes open too.
I just bought some for around $2.00! I think mine are some kind of tin though as they tend to want to rust if left wet for long. I just wash and dry and they're fine!

I'll check during my thrift store rounds. I would like nothing better than to hand deliver them to you when I'm in Marble--hey, it's only 5 hours away!

Cathy, you find me a bunch of pans and I'll try to find the time to drive to Marble!

Today's market was pretty successful; when I was ready to pack up at 11:30 am, I only had two challah loaves and 3 bags of corn muffins left. I traded a challah for a cucumber and a Mediterranean squash (delicata) and I will share the corn muffins and other loaf of challah with my mom.

There were many of the regulars, both vendors and customers; chatted with a nice guy selling fresh cut tuberoses and I met a traveling nurse from Detroit who is down here for 12 more weeks. A mom and her son from El Salvador enjoyed my Hawaiian Banana bread on the spot. The "dog lady" and the "mail-order bride" were there, as was the curmudgeon vendor who takes up twice the space he should (grrrrr). It was humid, of course (this is NC in July after all) but there were plenty of breezes and I was able to get close to the Big Tree for some shade. Oh, and one shopper lost her car keys; I helped her look a bit, but she still had not found them by the time I left.

Just a regular Saturday at the market!
