We're going out with some dear friends tonight and tomorrow night we're going to an auction/dinner for 2 of my girls' private school. They'll have some terrific things to bid on, and since it's a deduction on the income tax we'll be generous and bid high! My DD#1 will donate a paint job and it will go for several thousand dollars. It's always a lot of fun. Sunday I may just have to go see my twins in Midlothian, Tx. That's if it doesn't rain. Something about rain and I-45 scares me to death!

We're going to the Irish Festival in Dallas on Saturday. Can't wait to hear some of our favorites, Beyond the Pale and BEHAN.
Sunday, I"m helping with our library's annual Dr. Seuss Birthday Festival. Hope the rain holds off til evening.

Joe, I remember you mentioned this rose not too long ago. It's the red/dark pink sport of La France, right? I hope you will post pictures of it when it blooms and put one on hmf - there aren't any there ...:( I hope it blooms its head off for you. La France does great for you, doesn't it? Thanks for posting. Gean Carla, if you can grow lilacs, I'm jealous. I love that smell. What kind do you grow? I don't know what a non typical lilac is. I have avoided this post because this is SO HARD to answer. I feel like if I mention one, the others seeds will say, "Well, fine! We won't germinate for you!" So my lips are sealed. Truly, it's after they really grown in the yard (and second or third year on perennials) that I get an idea of whether i truly look forward to them or not. I've noticed that when I rely and wait eagerly on one plant, it always seems to be another plant that I sorely underrated that performs (and dresses up the garden) beyond my wildest dreams (and beyond the one I was waiting so eagerly for). Brad - I hijacked all my daughter's columbine stems/seedpods back in May because she cut them off and was going to (gasp!) throw them out. Makes me wonder if we're related by blood! I brought them all home but have no idea what they look like because she has so many different ones--tall ones mostly, some double, blue definitely. If you're willing to be surprised, I've got like a bajillion seeds to send you. My rose campion foliage is still absolutely gorgeous, silver and velvety even after the terrible storm damage. I may check out 'Alba' next year. Is 'Bloody Mary' a red variety? That would be a stunning comination--silver stems/foliage with tomato red flowers. Wow. In between other chores I played with seeds today. Those dry enough to be brought indoors are now stored in plastic salad dressing cups with lids. The number of paper bowls with seeds in them on shelves inside the garage is dwindling. If I don't manage it before then, I'll haul a bale of growers mix inside the house Thanksgiving week. My 'Leap of Faith' seeds this year are going to be Lobelia cardinalis 'Fan Scarlet.' Jury is still out on whether or not it's fully hardy in my zone.

I'm with Robert and Suzie on this one. The first tomato is the one we look forward to the most. Technically, we've already had our first three tomatoes from our plants in pots, so for us the first tomato thing already is over. Like all tomatoes that have set and ripened in cooler temperatures, their flavor, while still good and certainly superior to grocery store tomatoes, is not the same as a tomato that will ripen in hotter temperatures in May or June. The first tomato from an in-ground plant likely will be from Better Boy, which bloomed insanely early, but the ones I'm looking forward to the most are those from the black, purple or pink varieties like J D's Special C-Tex, Spudakee Purple, Spudatula, Greek Rose, Cherokee Purple, etc. It is likely our first fruit from in-ground plants, if not Better Boy, will be from Terenzo or LIzzano, but I don't particularly crave the flavor of a typical red hybrid cherry. I crave the OPs that are impossible to come by in stores....and when I have bought the commercially grown OPs from places like Central Market, they did not taste nearly as good as OPs grown here in our garden. Fresh and locally grown still is best, regardless of the name of the variety. Suzie, Say it isn't so! I have steadfastly refused to look further out at the forecast for next week because I didn't want to see another potential cold front. I told Tim this morning that it wouldn't surprise me to have one next week, since that has been a very consistent pattern for the last few weeks ....but I sure was hoping for a pattern change. Some of my plants soon will be too tall to cover. At about 2.5-3' tall now, some of the potatoes already are getting hard to cover, and this heat is making them grow by leaps and bounds. Even with floating row cover, there's a limit to how much you can cover, and the taller the plants get, the harder it is. For us, the rain has tapered off a lot down here the last two weeks....and my ground is cracking. Crazy, isn't it? Usually the ground doesn't crack until June. All winter I looked forward to spring so much. Now,I look at all the crazy roller coaster weather and say to myself "This? This is what you were waiting for?" It was 91 degrees at our house yesterday and yet our forecast for later in the week shows 34 degrees. It seems ridiculous to have both of those temperature readings in the same week. I'll be happy with whatever tomatoes we get this year because something tells me we aren't going to have the huge harvests we were blessed with last year. I am so happy we canned, froze and dehydrated a 2-3 year supply in 2012 because it may be that we don't get enough fruit this year to make/can salsa and all that other stuff. Dawn

Anna's 12th birthday is tomorrow and she has a TaeKwonDo tournament in the morning. She's not going to have a birthday party this weekend because we are lacking ideas as well as the fact there is a special church meeting for kids tomorrow evening. Sunday we will just enjoy a quiet day at home.
I hope in another week for spring break we will have her party.

Looking forward to March coming in like a lion (yet another snow storm) which hopefully means it will go out like a lamb! Also starting spring cleaning and some house fix ups. I am off next week and hope to get some things done around here.

DD is coming with me on a Red Hat outing to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. One of our favorite places to visit. It'll be extra fun with her present.

Well, not that I'm looking forward to it, but tomorrow it's supposed to be 52*. That I am looking forward too. I'm going out into the back yard and poopie scoop a winters worth of Toby's offerings. At least I'll have the majority of them gone, before the warm weather comes.
Sunday will be church, and I don't know what else yet. Maybe Mom and I'll take in a movie, if there's a good one showing. But then on 2nd thought, maybe not. Mom's said a couple times how she misses/craves some popcorn. But she's had her teeth out 3 1/2 weeks ago, and is still sore.

Tonight is our date night...so our for supper. Maybe a hair cut too.

Saturday morning...I get to sleep in until I wake up! HAVE TO get a hair cut! Hoping to get a little house cleaning in also.

Saturday evening...Kalie (DD) and Mike will have their feet firmly planted in Iowa again! (I hope!!)

Sunday...we will probably go to Des Moines and look at some of the 1200 pics that Kalie & Mike have taken while in the British Virgin Islands! =)

Moving is what is going on here the next few days! Two homes!

DD and Justin are moving. Then she will clean the rental house of ours they lived in and DS will be moving in next week, can't wait til the weekend cause little Miss Divine comes next Friday!
I'm going to have sooooooo much more fun yet the next week! LOL
Going to the drug store to get another bottle of Aleve, cause if I have to help wash walls and clean carpets at all I will need it.

Our baby "shower" is tomorrow at 4:00. It's not really a shower...my friends are hosting it as a Baby Celebration. Co-ed and Irish beer! :)

We're going to a movie & dinner tomorrow night, then Sunday going to visit DH's brother who lives about an hour and a half away. Haven't seen him and our SIL in several months, so a visit is way past due. It's supposed to be 72 today & tomorrow, then 75 with thunderstorms on Sunday.

Well I was looking forward to DH being away at Daytona Bike week and me going to the beach, but his friend messed up the reservations, so I guess it's the same old same old. Work on Saturday, laundry and grocery shopping on Sunday.

Local pug meetup. 50 little pugs running around sniffing each other, trying to outpee each other and chasing each other around. It's hilarious. And wears Conway out. He sleeps for two days afterward.

(1) Running a new Cat 3 telephone line from the NID box to the computer. We have DSL and when the installer ran it he snaked it around the edge of the carpet in a manner Curly Howard would be proud of. I'm running it through the crawlspace like it should be. BTW we're getting new carpet next week which is why I'm under the gun now.

(2) Watching my dad for 6 hours. He lives with my sister and is increasingly confused after having had a stroke a year ago. He doesn't get around too well either, even with a walker.

Lookin to getting home from Disney on Sunday.
We had a great time, despite cool weather the end of the week.
Went up to The Villages to visit friends, homes very nice, but not what we want year round. Too much activity.
I miss my cat, Foxy...can't wait to hug her.

Our only kid events this weekend are DS#1, who has ice hockey practice tomorrow at 6:00 a.m.It's my week to get up and take him, let DH sleep. We'll be back home before anyone else wakes up and knows we've gone. Then he has roller hockey practice at 3:00 p.m., but DH will take that one.

After I get that over with, I'm looking forward to doing as close to nothing as a mom can get away with. I bet DS and I both go back to sleep after the a.m. practice. I'm gonna read a lot. Next week and weekend will be much busier, so I'm resting up for it. ;o)

I'm looking forward to working in the yard...if it doesn't rain. Hope to go out for mexican food and a margarita tomorrow night. Any time I can stay home, I am happy, but I have some running to do tomorrow, so maybe Sunday will be the day I get to stay home all day.

Laundry is not only done, but put away. There is food in the freezer to be POOFed. Can't do much outside, because it's too dang cold and the ground is wet. My big old kitchen table that I'm getting rid of is still in the way in the studio/junk dump so that mess can't be cleaned up. DH and his helper are still tracking stuff into the house so why sweep the floors? It's going to be cold and rainy, so why clean the windows? The birds (an amazing variety) have food..must refill the suet feeders..and can be watched through my dirty dining room window. I think I'm going to switch back and forth from bird watching and reading. Maybe I'll bake an apple pie..though we don't need one.

Studying the "Driver's Handbook" in preparation for the written test early next week and driving one later - that I must pass or I lose my licence.

I've had a licence to drive a fairly large straight truck and vision isn't good enough to pass that test, but O.K. for a regular licence.

If I can pass the vision test within a year, I can have the truck-driver licence reissued.

Wish me luck!

Painting my kitchen! Right now everything is stark white, cabinets, counters, sink, walls. So the walls and backsplash are being painted a pale lemon color. I can hardly wait to see what it's going to look like! We've been talking about painting for 14 years!

So far we've emptied it, cleaned all the walls with TSP, and gave them a good rinsing. Just waiting for them to dry thoroughly, and then I'll start.

it's not just the weekend...but I look forward to everyday and how my shoulder gets a little more mobile...i haven't pulled out the vacumn yet...but I'm seriously thinkin about it!
