Thinking of Dottie this morning

Hugs sweetie. The place won't be the same without you, but the ones on the other side are waiting with arms outstretched.

Blessings on your family at this hard time and may they share their love in ways they held back before. It's a bittersweet time no one wants to go through, but they are so blessed to get to say goodbye.

Bless them as they face your loss. It's a hard, hard loss indeed.

You must have been in unshared pain to have been so bad. Strong and brave.

You made us laugh, had some interesting "discussions" and we will dearly miss you.

I don't think I'd want to set cups in storage boxes without drainage holes and wouldn't want to ruin mine by punching holes in them. Why not set them in a cardboard box, cut down if necessary, work out drainage in the bottom, and cover with plastic? If the cardboard starts to fall apart, use another one. Or come up with an innovation of your own. I start a lot of my seeds in the spring outside in deli containers, drainage holes cut in bottom and vented at the top. As soon as they sprout, take the lids off and mist. Some I'm going to mix my pro mix which I think has fungicide with potting soil. Anyway, I only do the carryout containers for things I'm going to transplant into cell packs, slice up and plop on top of soil in plastic cups to grow on a bit, then plant with my bulb planter. Or you could plant HOS in a shallow depression in the ground scooped out. I suppose you could WS those but soil might be too shallow and you'd have to move faster when they sprout. The bulk of my winter sowing, I use gallon milk jugs like they say on the WS forum, I don't want to cut mine with the oven door method but cut almost in two leaving a hinge at the base of the handle, then tape, using packing tape from now on as duct tape too hard to pull off. Also going to use half gallon jugs and tape or tie them together in groups of four (for stability) for seeds I want to sow more sparsely. When it's safe enough, I open them up and peg the jug tops to the ground thru the opening at the top with pieces of bamboo until I'm ready to plant them, can hold a lot of stuff for most of the summer and still be ok. They say to get the jugs off the ground so they drain better, haven't tried that. I also punch at least 1/4" drainage holes in my gallon jugs w/a woodburning tool (it smells so may have to go outside or basement), 12 per jug, 3 per section.

The 15 second latchup is typical for birds of that size. Ever watch farm chickens? It ain't any better for the hens - the same as you described. I think that after 10 seconds of the male on her back, she is ready to get him off. Mating among farm cats is not all honey smooth, either. Many times, this takes place in darkness, but the wise farmboy knows what has happened when he hears a particular screech made by the cat. After mating, as the tom withdraws, barbs on his tool scrapes and irritate the female. She instantly let out a scream of pain, her claws unsheath and a few pieces of fur and shin is raked off the offender. This all happens in a faction of second. It is a cruel trick of nature. This injury/stimulation is required for fertilization to go to completion. Without it, she may not impregnate.

Hi There are over a thousand species of plants called "morning glory"lol all are in the convolvulaceae family but the greatest numbers are in Ipomoea , They occur on every continent except antarctica. Where are you located ?? . Though most flower in the early morning there are those that remain open all day as well as night flowering. From the vivid blue flowers and heart shaped leaves I'd guess Ipomoea unless you live in a tropical zone.?? If hybrid goodluck with an ID lol gary

I'm glad you're doing so well! In a couple of day you will feel better than pre-surgery if yours had periods where it bulged out and hurt like mine did. The only way to feel better was to lay down flat which wasn't always possible. I made the 2 hour trip back from seeing my mother in her care facility more than one day with the passenger seat in DH's truck back and down as far as it would go and my feet on the dash 😒 Not really a typical position for a woman my age. I had never in my life used ice for anything preferring heat for discomfort but found ice my best friend with that surgery. It was really helpful for post surgery pain, worked just about as well as the pain meds. Either way, don't let yourself be uncomfortable for too long, you will heal faster and do better if you are completely relaxed and resting well - please don't underestimate that. Best to you....

I went to bed last night thinking about her and her family, and woke up this morning with the same thoughts. She's been in my thoughts throughout this day with constant tears. I can only hope she is not suffering in pain. Wishing Dotmom and her family all the comfort, prayers, and hugs at this difficult time. It's crazy to think that she won't be here any longer, and I agree that the KT will not be the same.

If you want to see a picture of Dotmom, go to the KT Gathering Place and click on "Photos". Scroll down (it's pretty far down) but she is in a group picture of some of our ladies standing on a porch. It is the first picture in that row. If you click on the picture, it will enlarge. Very pretty lady.

Patti, thank you so much for posting where we can see a picture of Dottie. I was going to ask if someone had a picture of her to share. Ironically, her picture is very much how I had envisioned her. She is a beauty both inside and out. Wishing her all kinds of love and peacefulness as she enters her new world as an angel in the days to come.

It struck me, early this morning as I was lying awake, isn't Scott, the Radio Guy? His wife was Dirt_undermyfingernails.

Dotmom's son Brian passed a few years ago.

She'll be reunited with him and see her Daughter-in-law again.

I may be wrong but I don't think the person using that name is gone. Unless two use(d)similiar name. The one I am thinking about is Stacie and her husband is a teacher.

I have been thinking about Dotmom as well. I don't post too often and never "met" her but I was thinking she seemed
pretty happy in her most recent posts (after the one about her son's issue). Hopefully she hadn't been feeling too bad until she was hospitalized. Sending my thoughts and prayers to her and her family and strength for the time to come.

I just checked the empty chairs at KT gathering place. It was dirtyfingernails that passed in June of 09. We do have a similar name here now. Thanks again JoAnn for the Gathering Place. You do such a great job.

Yes, Jas, you're right. My goodness, that family has had too many early passings. I sure do worry for Dot's hubby who hasn't seemed to be in good health for some time. I hope he's somewhere where someone can help take care of him.

Yes, Jasdip, that is correct about dirtyfingernails (I'm not sure of the exact spelling) was Scott's wife. He works with radio, as Doc. DDIL is also in that picture.

Multiple Myeloma is an insidious cancer. It can smolder for a long time in the bone marrow. Without treatment it basically eats holes in the bones from the inside out, sometimes causing bones to thin and collapse. Dottie, God Bless her, had to have been in alot of pain. And it is true, good kidney function is a must for chemo. Any chemo.

Her daughter-in-law, I believe her name was Harrietta, also a fantastic lady, spelled her login with an underscore or two in it, something like dir_ty_fingernails or something like that. It's a shame how soon we forget!

I too have thought a lot about my buddy Dotmom. I used to see her sister every now and then. Great family. And as I said before, Dotmom is true class despite how a few trolls have criticized her in the past.
