Zippers are not problem. I don't close them ever. I wash my white summer pants together w/ lingerie and bras and never had any problems. Bra hooks don't cause problems either. The only problem I had in thirty years using FL ,one of my underwires came out and got hooked in the wash drum hole, pulled out of the bra and got stuck in between the drums. It made snapping noise. I was able to pull it out w/ needle nose pliars. No damage to those drums. I would check for broken buttons, they can get sharp or the metal gromets on jeans, they get loose or bent sometimes too. Inspect edges of the drum too. You just never know.... I do get tiny holes in cotton t-shirts too but you can tell its from wear and wash, the holes are where the stitches are. Many times the sewing needles damage the apparel when is sewn new and that's where you will see the holes first.

Hello, sorry to hear about your washer. I have recently had problems with my Whirlpool Cabrio HE washer. It's an older model and I got it second hand. I'm not familiar with all the newer models but is your washer an HE with digital controls? If so, it should display error codes. And, when we recently had problems with ours (it was the lid lock mechanism) I found some information on how to override it. Now this may not work for your washer so you might need to look it up. To enter diagnostic mode, the washer must be in standby (no lights on etc). Press cancel and power button together then select any button except power, start, or pause/cancel hor 3 seconds (slowly--one...two...three) do this 3 times. (hold for 3 release for 3. Hold for 3, release for 3. THen hold for 3 seconds and a display should come up.) Mine said 88. After 3 seconds, any error codes should pop up. Write them down as they appear and look them up. use the same button you pressed to start diagnostic mode. After 3 more seconds, diagnostic mode will run a test. let it do it's thing. It will go thru all the systems. Then it will beep and display the error codes. Hope this helps! It could be the lid lock, depending on your machine. It might be a safety feature or something?

While I'm glad that Whirlpool offered a full refund, I'm still puzzled by the problems that mc58 experienced with the Duet 9200. I had a 9200 for a brief while earlier this year before exchanging it for a 9400 (because another store had it on sale), and I've been very happy with the 9400 but didn't really see much of a difference between the two models in terms of performance. The Duet 9400 is essentially the same machine only with more cycles. The only other differences I noticed were 1) the 9200 was made in Mexico, whereas the 9400 delivered to us was made in Germany. 2) the 9400 was maybe *slightly* quieter, perhaps due to differences in build quality between the two factories, 3) the 9400 vibrated slightly less, but I think that's because the installers did a better job of leveling it. While sometimes pant legs and sleeves do get tangled after the high-speed spin cycle, I've never seen tangling or sudsing as bad as mc58 described with either the 9200 or 9400 Duets. Our 9400 does use very little water (you typically can't see the water level) but it's definitely not "sudsy". Could it just be a problem with adaption? Any new front-load washer with such stringent energy requirements simply can't use a lot of water to rinse out as much detergent that an old top-loader can.
