In the cool, cool, cool of the morning.........

It's -29ú here this morning, and I have a 9:00 dr. appointment. Just hope the car agrees....it's in the garage, of course, but unheated. It's hard to believe that it's that cold,as the house is nice and cozy.

Yikes--I don't even know what that would begin to feel like! Stay warm and good luck with the trip to the dr.

Here it's +28--but we woke up to it snowing. The ground is covered, streets are still just wet. Hoping it's not too much, because we wanted to get out this morning to get to the bank, and then to city hall to pay the electric/water bill.

It is now 5 above this morning and was lower than that, I am thinking my daughter said it was 3 above. Chilly for sure.

I am good with either as long as they don't sleep too hot. I was set to buy LL Bean percale which have been highly recommended around the web but the most recent reviews aren't all that great. I live in the UK currently and will only be home for a few days and won't have time to run around checking out every b+m store's selection. Bonus if anyone has a recommendation for a white or gray blanket for a king sized bed that isn't too heavy.

Rough Linen Forever! No Bamboo for us since it's rayon and a hot chemical mess. The Federal Trade Commission, the nation’s consumer protection agency, wants you to know that the soft “bamboo” fabrics on the market today are rayon. They are made using toxic chemicals in a process that releases pollutants into the air. Extracting bamboo fibers is expensive and time-consuming, and textiles made just from bamboo fiber don’t feel silky smooth. There’s also no evidence that rayon made from bamboo retains the antimicrobial properties of the bamboo plant, as some sellers and manufacturers claim. Even when bamboo is the “plant source” used to create rayon, no traits of the original plant are left in the finished product. FTC on Bamboo Fabrics

Maryl - In the mornings Forever Redeemed is a pin-up girl. But in the late afternoons, she's not so pretty. From a distance, you can't tell. But in the late afternoon, those blooms look washed out. Forever Redeemed would benefit from some afternoon shade. Astral Voyager almost always has quilled sepals. Lavender Stardust is an oldie but goodie that I'll always keep around. Debra

Do we have to use one warm and one cool bulb, will 2 cool bulbs work

Anything will be better than what you have now. You can put 4 cool bulbs - and it will work, or mix them 2 and 2. Since T12s are getting phased out - you can replace your fixtures with a 2 T8 fixture as well. Again - you can mix cool white and warm white or use 2 cool whites. Or you can replace it with an LED fixture - Costco has the shoplights for 29.95. To some extent it depends on how cold is your basement - if it is on a cool side - probably keeping fluorescents is better - they do warm the room. LEDs is barely warm to touch. If you want to try T8s - you need to change the fixture - the ballasts are different . In my experience - do NOT buy fixtures in Walmart - they are the cheapest but they do not last. If you have an old style wide reflector fixtures... investing in a new ballast and switchng to T8s makes sense. Then you can keep only one fixture per shelf. Irina, the rewiring hobbyist.

Wow Phyllis! Good luck, I hope your car starts!

We had cold temps last week (not that cold) and some cars had trouble starting.

It's -13C and I just got in from shovelling the parking lot and sidewalks. Cold, but no wind, and light fluffy snow.

While I was "warming up" the car, clinic called to say I could postpone until Monday, but by then I was jacketed and ready to go. Old car really had square wheels this morning!

Finally got warmer this morning and at noon it is 1 above. Feels like summer (well, almost). Need to go to get gas etc.
