How close do they come in predicting your weather for your area. Ours was saying yesterday we were going to have snow rain mixed up to six to eight inches. We got none. They have done this all winter. In our area they call us Michiana because we're IN.and Mich. border. If it's Mich. that's going to get the weather why don't they say Mich. I was in grocery store yesterday and overheard two women talking. One asked the other if she was in there because of the weather report and she told the other she quit listening to that long time ago because they were never close. Other woman says it's like the little boy crying wolf.They have been wrong so many times no one listens anymore. We have a million dollar Doppler radar station less then seven miles from us.

Up until about 6-7 years ago they must have been throwing darts at a spinning 'weathr wheel'. It was a tatal crapshoot. More recently, however, they have become much more accurate. I don't know if it's the more sophisticated tools they have at their disposal or what, but I'm grateful.

Sounds like you are pretty close to where I live.
I do agree with the crying wolf thing too!
What I don't care for is how they call the weather part of the tv stations "Storm Centers" for the most part the storms are few and far between!

Well I think you can get started on those projects, it seems our non-winter is over now. Yesterday I pruned my clematis & planted a bag of bleeding heart I picked up at Costco, thinking I'd plant them in April as the bag suggested. But I doubt we'll get any more hard freezes now. We also took out the hoses & turned on the outside water. The ground is still too cool to cultivate but there are always odds & ends to work on, sounds like you have a few to work on! I'm heading outside today to work, it's going to be 79 degrees according to the weatherman/woman.

It's cool outside, but the sun is shining. Temps got down to 39F, much colder than I expected, but I lost NO plants, WHEW!! I almost went outside and covered plants, but decided not to. Papaya looks great and it's the most cold sensitive with it's new growth. Satsuma has new growth and countless blooms and they all survived. You Northerners must have had it BAD. Snow, sleet, ice?? We receive two commercial TV stations. One has "The Doomsday Man" predicting the weather. He always sounds so cheerful as he talks about tornado watches, storm warnings, and high winds. According to him, we never have good weather, and if the sun does peep out, it's an anomaly. On weekends he is replaced by a guy that bought his hair in a spray can from Ron Popeel.
The other station has "Robot Man" who just can't figure out what to do with his hands, so he waves them about jerkily as he tries to tell us about the weather in Duluth (we're in Texas). Robot's weekend replacement varies from a nasal female to a young man that is so afraid of the camera that he visibly shakes.
We watch the weather reports for entertainment value, and predict our own weather by looking out the window.

I think ours does a pretty good job of predicting weather. Actually, I think the national computer models (Acuweather?) do the predicting, then the local guys/gals tweak it for their particular area.

Patches we stayed in the Michiana (Elkhart) area for the summer/fall a few years ago. Dh & I were amused by the name used all the time .... almost like a state unto itself! LOL

Ours does a pretty good job of predicting weather. Thanks to accuweather they are able to give specific times, even to the minute as to when our area will expect rain. However, years ago I think they used the dart system that softball mentioned lol.

Our local one is usually "off" from the National one
for our area. So, usually,only one will be close to accurate.

We get coverage from the National Weather Service and
from Accu-Weather, so we can kind of pick which forecast
we want.

But - they take turns being right, it seems. But, in
all fairness, they are usually the most "wrong" during
a big storm that is just moving over a really large
area - that's when they all become The Weather Guessers.
