LG complaints!

Even though consumer affairs has not posted my LG issues or got back to me as of yet I want to post some of the complaints I read on their website.

Here goes:

Some complaints from consumer affairs website about LG.

Thea of Saint Paul MN (1/14/06):

I purchased an LG Electronics (Life's Good) dishwasher from Home Depot in Woodbury, MN on Aug. 27, 2005. Within the first 3 weeks, an error code appeared on the LED screen indicating the thermistor needed service. I called for service and an authorized repair person came to the house to repair the dishwasher; however, the dishwasher failed again within 5 months.

The service technician did not replace or repair the dishwasher at all. He just said that something must have blocked the water inlet pipe. I called Plaza TV and Appliance to schedule a time for a repair person to come out to the house. The person I spoke to specifically told me that on Mon. Jan. 9 a service technician would be at my house between 11 a.m. and Noon. I confirmed the date and the time twice. Well, turns out the window of service was between 9 am and Noon. (The scheduler screwed up and never took responsibility for telling me the wrong information.)

I asked my neighbor to let in the service technician because I had to work Mon. Jan. 9. The service technician arrived between 10 am and 10:30 am when I had already left for work and my neighbor had not yet arrived. The technician did not have the sense to call and leave a "sorry I missed you" message. I called another authorized service center that did not schedule me right away for a service appointment because they had to determine if they could fix the problem at all.

Since I cannot get a repair person to come to the house when I or someone else is home, I want my purchase refunded. LG and Home Depot told me that they will not refund my purchase until "a service person deems that that dishwasher is irrepairable." Home Depot in Woodbury, MN gave me the runaround, and LG Electronics gave me the runaround. I'm complaining to warn other consumers not to purchase LG products because LG will not help the consumer who is experiencing a problem with a faulty appliance. I requested my money back from Home Depot and LG Electronics but neither company will comply with my request.

Economic damage: $1,025 of my hard earned money down the drain. I'm back to handwashing dishes. All I want is my money back and to return the dishwasher which is not repairable.

Davin of Duvall WA (1/14/06):

8-month-old refrigerator failed. When LG was contacted for service (still under warranty) they are unable to provide a tech to my address. Closest one is 12 miles away, but refuses to service my address. After 10 days, I asked for a replacement. LG says OK, but must be approved, and passed through channels.

When I asked to speak to customer service supervisor, was informed all were busy, and I could wait for returned call, up to 72 hours. When I asked to be left on hold for supevisor, was tolded I could not tie up the line, the customer service rep needed to keep line clear for other calls. 48 hours have passed, with no call back from supervisor.

I and my family have been without refrigerator for two weeks. We purchased unit with warranty and at no time were told that finding someone to honor the warranty was impossible (purchased at Albert Lee Appliances, Seattle, WA). No time line for replacement can be provided. Albert Lee offered to replace with different make/model, but we have to pay difference if new unit is more expensive than purchase price of LG.

So far, all are several hundred dollars more, with different features. If replaced with different model, we will have to pay several hundred dollars for a refrgerator that in not our first choice, replacing one that is still under warranty.

Julie of Steger IL (9/22/05):

The refrigerator I bought 10 months ago broke down. It has been 3 weeks and still no one has come out to fix it. I can never speak to the same person twice. The product is under a year warranty, so I have to deal with the manufacturer. The compressor has been diagnosed. All we get from LG is that it is up to be repaired, no idea when.

I buy 2 bags of ice to replenish my coolers. My husband who has had open heart surgery has had to cancel rehab appointments to wait for promised appointments from repair people who never show up. I had to throw out at least $150.00 in spoiled food.

Max of Frankfort IN (8/10/05):

Purchased a front-load LG Washer model #WM1832CW from Best Buy 8/01/03. It was always noisy on spin cycle, but we thought it was due to uneven loads and didn't have it checked out. Called LG customer service 2-05 and they said it was out of warranty. Started making more noise 8-05 so called LG and said they could do nothing.

It was very difficult to find anyone to service machine, and when we did they said the bearings were bad on the drum, part was hard to get and total cost for repair would be $400-500. This was for a washer that cost $900 2 years ago! We realize it's out fault for not checkin gout machine earlier but company was no help, parts are difficult to get so we recommend avoiding purchase of this LG front load washer.

Purchased a new top-load from local dealer - a different brand with better warranty and track record. Cost was approx what the reapir cost would have been for the lousy LG machine.

Tim of Anderson SC (11/07/06)

Defective design with dryer rollers. Noisey operation with a $1,000.00 dryer is unacceptable. I have been in contact with LG countless times with documentation to back it up. Six different repair companies attempted repair but ALL failed due to poor design in rollers. ALL STATED LG ENGINEERING HAS ADMITTED NO FIX AVAILABLE. Seven sets of rollers and a dryer replacement should be proof enough.

I am out $2,200.00 for a washer and dryer combo. The dryer sounds like I am drying bricks and my washer walks across the floor during the spin cycle. And yes, it has been leveled. I want my money back for the combo.

Kenneth of Tucson AZ (11/04/06)

Five weeks ago LG Washer started leaking during spin cycle. Called repair service 1st call couldn't see a problem. Washer leaked again, I ran before second call2. repair man agreed said he would talk to LG. Couldn't use machine for over a week, repair man came, put in part recommended by LG. Ran machine next day leaked again. Repair man came, said he couldn't fix contacted LG they told him to order same part again. Now waiting. Washing Machine under warranty , 1st year, so LG is responsible. When part arrives, in a week,if that doesn't solve the problem then repair man will file a Can't Fix form. It will then take LG 21 days to Process the Paper( that is there official position) and then I can order a replacement. TOTAL TIME without a washer will be 8 weeks. Does anyone find that reasonable??

Have to go to commercial laundrys..cost and wear on the garments. Difficult to wait in laundramat for an older person. I am 68 years old.

Marc of Glendale, AZ (10/30/06)

Washing machine flashes error message 1E..water inlet error. There isn't a water inlet error because there is plenty of water (stagnant) in the machine each load. We've drained the water from the machine at least 10 times to no avail. This is a Tromm unit that cost over $1000 with tax and we are disgusted with this appliance. Our tile floor is shot because we drain the Tromm about 3x a week and the buckets overflowed 2 x!

Repairman came out a week ago today and stated he'd have to order a part. No phone call, no ETA, no nothing, so I called Customer Service. They assured me that they emailed the repair person and have notified them of my problem.

I had a 14 yr. old Whirlpool top loader that worked perfectly. The only reason we looked for a new machine was that the barrel in the washer started rusting. Now I wish I'd kept the Whirlpool unit.

Chris of White Lake, MI (09/27/06)

I purchased an LG Front Loading Washing Machine. Since I purchased this washer, all my clothes (especially towels) stink like a musty mold smell. There are similar complaints all over the internet.

I've called customer service multiple times, the last call resulting in someone putting me on hold for 32 minutes only to be disconnected. I'm tired of being told to clean the seal with bleach and vinager; it doesn't work nor should I have to do this after each load. I have kept the seal clean after every load.

LG obviously has a design problem they're not owning up to and I am currently taking my towels to a laundry mat.

Chris of Fort Myers FL (09/13/06)

Bought the Tromm steam Washer & Dryer ( $1500 + tax just for the washer!). The dryer blew up within the first week.

LGs return policy is within 48 hours. After 48 hours they have to send a repair service to see if it can be fixed. Service came to house TWO WEEKS later to confirm that it will not work, its done, and needs to be REPLACED. Nobody can tell me when I could expect my new dryer.

I wanted the ridiculous steam washer and now look - can not see ANY steam and the service is the worst of ANY industry in the USA!

I have an LG front loader washer. I loved this appliance with all my heart until the gunky and smelly mold/mildew build-up began. Now I am always trying to wipe up and it always comes back. LG customer service told me that the manual says to dry the gasket after each use.

First, why should I have to? Second, the manual doesn't say this. What the manual says, in a tiny section, is to keep it dry to maintain a proper seal. Nowhere does it warn that if I don't keep it dry after each use I will have gross, smelly and unhealthy mold or mildew in my home.

Jayne of Reedsburg WI (05/22/06)

I purchased a new LG Front load dryer on February 28, 2006 from Home Depot. It was delivered to my home approximately two weeks later and set up by a subcontractor hired by Home Depot. On April 23, 2006 and withput warning my dryer suddenly failed. I called LG to report the matter. a technician came to my home and advised the power cord was not installed properly and shorted out the dryer. He conferred with LG's technical support and ordered parts. he came back to work on the dryer. installed the ordered parts and new power cord. The dryer would not operate.

He again conferred with LG technical support. They ordered more parts. Almost every part in the dryer. He came back again installed the parts and the dryer still did not work. They ordered the rest of the parts not previously replaced and reordered the parts he just replaced. He came back for a third time on May 8, 2006. He replaced all the parts and the dryer was not operational. After three visits the tech repair center finally condemmed my dryer and deemed it not repairable. They advised I would have a new dryer within ten days. All I needed to do was fax in my proof of purchase.

On May 9, 2006, I faxed in my proof of purchase. Instead of being forwarded to the return authorization dept. it sat on a customer service representatives desk until Thursday May 11, 2006, when I called to follow up on the status. They advised their customer service rep. overlooked sending the proof of purchase to the return authorization dept and they would take care of it immediately. However, they could not tell me when I could expect to hear from that department and I was told tommorow was Friday so nothing would get done.

I was very angry at this point so I called home depot and their manager called LG and told me they would be calling me the next day on May 17 and that I could possibly have my dryer the same day if they processed the return. I received a telephone message from LG saying my dryer was ordered but no comment as to when I could expect its arrival. I called to get more information.I was advised that a logistics company would be contacting me to arrange delivery of my dryer. I called the delivery company to follow-up on May 22,2006. they indicated that they received the job on May 17,2006, but can not pick up the dryer until it is released form the LG Warehouse. No time frame was given as when I could expect to receive delivery of my dryer.

I called home depot again on May 22, 2006 to get assistance from their management. I await their return call. I have been without a dryer for a month.

I purchase a Washing Machine Model WM2075Cake LG TROMM. It was delivered Tuesday, when I started using it I noticed It was leaking. I called Bestbuy to observe were the leak was coming from the returned on thursday with a new machine, they took the old one. The new one started leaking immediately from the front of the machine, again I called Best Buy -- they started to say these are great machines that this is very unusual then he start telling me that the machine leaks because I dont have a water catching pan under my machine. I told him 2 buckets of water are not suppose to come out of a machine. My carpet got wet and water leaked from the upstairs laundry room to the downstairs kitchen.

My LG washing machine broke down after 13 months use. Had a 2yr guarantee, tried to call the services centre usine number given on back of manuel, eventually got through after 2 days to be told they hadn't dealt with LG for 4 yrs!! Eventually got through to service centre Fri 7/04/06, company called ServiceLine, arranged for someone to call out Tues 11/04, took day off work they never showed up. After much to do the service call centre arranged for someone to call out at 8am the following morning, he left at 8.45am saying I needed a part & if it was in stock he would get someone to drop it in tomorrow, but instead of ordering it there and then he waited until the end of the day.

Following day they were unable to come out, serviceline unhelpful, no one senior to talk to, manager was 'out', argued that it was there mistake and they should put themselves out ie courior the part across but no they don't do that. I tried to explain the meaning of customer service to no avail. Would only promise for the following Tuesday 18/04. Rang LG who were sympathetic but could only advise I wrote in with a complaint, again explained customer service and that they were Service Lines customers but again it idn't sink in, again refused to put me through to a senior person.

No washing machine over Easter but at least an engineer was coming on Tuesday. Another day off work but when I rang to confirm a time they hadn't had the part in, the delivery hadn't arrived. Couldn't confirm a day at all. Rang LG and after much complaining the call centre person spoke to Serviceline and told me to ring in 20mins when they would give me a time fo today when the engineer would be out. Two phone calls later the Service Centre call centre staff laugh down the phone when I suggest the engineer coming out today. Ring LG and my call is esculated to Jason in the escalation team. who rang Serlines esculation team and I was promised a phone call from the engineer to let me know when they would be coming out. No phone call came even though I chased it again with Jason. It is now 17.37 and I have no idea when my machine will be fixed.

Samson of Daly City CA (03/29/06)

I have purchased a LG Washing machine Model WM2442H and found this model of have some problem. The Option "Pre-Wash" with the any selected factory programs will not have enough water to washing all clothing in the full load condition. The full load mean like 18-20 lbs. of clothing or 18prices of full size of bath towers. I have replaced the machine twice and same problem. Service call to LG and the answer is this model of machine should loaded 11 lbs of clothing in dry condition, otherwise will be too much.
