Any thoughts on the LG washer/dryer combo
Comments (4)I've enjoyed owning them. Have had combinations for over 25 years. Not all from LG. They are getting progressively better and the LG I'm using now doesn't even use a vent. It condenses the water and sends it out the same hose as dirty wash water. You may find yourself using this machine for all your washing needs. I find they work best with hard water and calgon with the detergent (prevents calcium build-up and softens water.) Never had a problem with stinky wash, not with my first machine of 18 yrs (Eudora). And not with the two FL I currently use (7 & 1 years). The prices are very high in the states, why is that? The last two, I've operated -- provided in hotels in Dubai and in S. Korea are amazing! I just wish I could read the one here in Korea, I cannot read Korean, but my husband's very dirty work socks come out like new and the clothes are very clean! The loads do take longer than top loaders but are efficient, much quieter, and come out of the machine ready for the drawer or suitcase. No steamy room or mildew around the machine. I am looking for an instruction book for my LG Tromm DD inverter 6.5kg WD 951 RD (reduced detergent?) machine. Then I can throw in my delicates. Right now I remove most clothes before the drying cycle and shake them out and hang them to dry. Don't need an iron. I have figured out only one setting...would be nice to have instructions. Been reading a lot lately about stinky wash and really, can't understand it. Also read that a product can be ordered at Stinkywash.com that solves the problem, if that is help to anyone. I would recommend this type washer/dryer. These types of washers normally use 1/2 capacity when drying. Mine is 6.5 wash, 3kg dry. But like I said, I hang up some of the load anyway and it is almost dry even before the dry cycle starts. I like that. My husband has been able to get by the whole summer with just 3 shirts and two pair of jeans! What you invest in the machine, you save in buying clothes! Those are my thoughts....See MoreCombo Washer/Dryers - Part 8
Comments (152)Nismo, I am not so familiar with well and septic systems being that I live in Chicago. However, I can tell you that in all combo machines with condensing dryers, the cold water supply and pump cycle on and off periodically throughout the dry cycle. The water does not run constantly at full force for three hours. Generally, most combo machines use somewhere between 14 to 20 gallons of water per load for both wash and dry (comparable to a standard dishwasher). In contrast, a standard topload washing machine by itself typically uses 40 to 50 gallons of water per load. If your septic supports a standard topload washer, it should easily be able to handle a combo machine. Moreover, you will be using much less detergent in a front load combo machine which is also better from an environmental standpoint. The manufacturer specifications usually state how much water the machine will use per load on average. I hope that answers some of your questions. Comments (4)Drain-height: Another "possible" issue, posted in a customer YouTube video (in this case, regarding the 3.6 CF LG combo washer/dryer), may be drain-hose height. The customer's dryer component of the machine stopped working, so he lowered his drainhose height to floor-level (to a bucket), which apparently resolved his problem. It's probably more likely that he merely has a defective pump, working at lower capacity, or not working at all (although, if it's not working, I don't know why he doesn't have problems during the wash cycle). According to the LG documentation for the 2.3 CF model, it indicates that the drain service can be no higher than 96" (which is pretty darned high). Note that there is no mention of a minimum drain height. (As I seem to recall, in comparison, I believe Miele recommends a drain height no higher than 36"). But since the customer's drain height shown in the YouTube video seems no higher than about 46", it's probably more than likely that this customer merely has a defective pump. Nevertheless, since we're still at the "cement board" stage of our laundry-area renovation, this prompted me to re-consider pulling off the cement board, and having a plumber re-route the supplies and drain to a lower height (it's currently at 46"). This also gives us the opportunity to hide the supply and drain from view, since this is an open-plan installation. Comments (51)I have a LG set I purchased in 2011. I have become very unhappy with this pair. I have taken all of the advice I have received here regarding my washer, and I do not like the machine at all. If a load of towels or similar type of laundry is not absolutely perfectly distributed, it will not spin. It typically adds 10 minutes or more to a cycle trying to balance the load during a spin. As far as rinsing goes, I have learned I have to frequently use the water plus option or add the extra rinse option to get well rinsed laundry. I do not use too much detergent...I figured out long ago that you must follow the directions carefully when using HE detergents or there will be issues. Like all FL machines, you use fabric softener at your own peril because mold will build up rather quickly in the dispenser area, and this LG is worse than my previous Kenmore was. Consequently I seldom use the Downey I used to love to use and when I do, I use a very small amount mixed with warm water. Luckily I always empty the dispenser at the end of my using the machine for a day so I have yet to develop a smell of mildew. I do regularly use a washer cleaner and always do at least one hot wash with bleach a week. When I first bought the pair I really liked the dryer, but I am finding now that it does not dry as well as it did when it was new. 4 years should not make that much of a difference. Maybe I am being overly judgmental towards the dryer because I dislike the washer so much but I definitely notice degradation in the drying process. If I were to choose a FL washer again, it would not be a LG model. I am intrigued by Speed Queen. I have about a year to go and will see what the market has available at the time. This LG has soured me completely on FL machines unless I find one that seems to offer me what I want a washer to be....See Moresuziyq5686
