When I was, I think, Sandy. Eighty years ago.

Think of all of the great advances that have happened in the past two or three generations.

I never remember there being no hydro (Ontario name for electricity, as it was originally generated by falling water in Niagara) in my original large farm home, but we had to pûmp water from a cistern for washing, and a pump in the yard for drinking. Then, when I was seven, Dad drilled a well, so we had cold water under pressure in the house and three barns.

Once, around 1940, just after the beginning of World War II, I think, Dad was complaining to the local banker that he'd done a lot of work through the Dirty Thirties, but had achieved little. The banker said that he'd upgraded his tractor, and upgraded his car. He'd drilled that well, and run water pipelines to three barns. Many people in the area had not achieved anything to speak of, he said.

We got a small table radio about that time, as well.

Just after World War II Dad, who had breathing problems, moved from our farm near here in Ontario to be a sharecropper on a farm owned by a long-time family friend on the Prairies ... and there was no power (Sask. name for electricity) in that house, where the family lived for about 5 years till Dad bought his own farm. He enjoyed good health for 40 years in Saskatchewan ... and though I lived there for only about seven years, that place has a place in my heart.

I didn't have a flush toilet or warm water on tap till I went to University.

Just after 1950 some of us university students, spending Christmas on a bus, were headed south from Winnipeg toward Minneapolis, bound for a Studsent Volunteer Movement assembly in Kansas when we stopped for a few minutes late one evening in a town somewhere in northern Minnesota and scarcely anyone wanted to disturb their logginess under their coats ... when someone came to the bus door and hollered, `They`ve got TV!``. You should have seen those coats fly, as everyone rushed into the bar to see TV!!

If our grandparents could visit us for a week ... how would we begin to explain to them the wondrous things that have happened during the last 50 yearsÃÃ (those are question marks: nobody ever said that computers are perfect - did theyÃ). My new computer`s keyboard isn`t well trained, yet, it appears ... sort of like a new puppyÃÃ

I'm satisfied with the time period I was born. I don't think I would have been a very good pioneer woman.
I hate to see the way our country is going now, but I do appreciate all the new inventions and conveniences that have come about during my lifetime and the history that I've witnessed.

I'm happy with when I was born too. I do think I'd have made a good pioneer woman but there are several things I'd have hated about that time. I'd have hated seeing my babies and my friends babies die... as there was no penicillon or any of the antibiotics we have now. I'd have hated the fact that women had so few rights. It's amazing how so many of the rights we now enjoy have been gained in such few years. I'd have hated not being able to keep in touch easily with friends and family 'back home'.

I am happy right here- I can't imagine living in any other time period myself.

I guess I'm satisfied with the eras I've gone through....what great inventions, and what marvelous strides in medicine. And the conveniences....oh, my!

I like when I was born too. Where I was able to support myself and 4 daughters with a good job, and the pay was equal, thanks to women's lib. Although at the time, I hated being forced to change my job and take a 'mans job'. They (the men) didn't like it either. But we didn't have a choice. Then, after I found how easy their job actually was, and they were being paid so much more, I was glad I had.

I love technology so I would like to be born a little later than I was, like maybe 20 years ago so I could have grown up surrounded by it more. I'd like to understand more of the "how it works" than I do now.

I'm with Flamingo... having a computer while growing up would have made my life better I think.

Her and I would be 20 year old chicks now... spring break in Florida here we come! lol

I would probably choose being born in the 50's instead of the 40's; times were a little better for my family then.

Grew up in the 50's. Remember lots of changes: tv's, change from operater phones to dials, (stayed up till midnight for the change), air conditioning.
Lots of great memories.

I'm pretty happy where I am now...I woulda loved to have lived in the Scarlett O'hara days...but they made it so glamorous...truth being it wasn't all that...the thought of not having showers...HOT HOT HOT weather with no air...not everyone had maids and servants to wait on them hand and foot...yeppers I think I'm liking today pretty darned good!

I'm very happy with the time I was born. I got to experience so much. I was a child during the 50's but got to experience a lot of the cool stuff through the eyes of my brother who was 6 years older.

We got to play with toy guns and bows and arrows and get hurt at the neighbors house without anyone suing.

Being a teen during the sixties was a wild ride. I was lucky enough to be in the San Francisco Bay Area. I got to experience a lot of firsts in this country...the Free Speech movement, the Peace Movement,Civil Rights etc. We were going to change the world. LOL. Free Concerts, Hells Angels and Hippies.

I was fortunate to raise my children where most of the moms still stayed home and the kids had a normal childhood running around the neighborhood, playing house and school and games of make believe using their imaginations instead of having over-scheduled days...some with less outdoor time than the average prison inmate.

Now I'm in the age of high tech. How cool is that!!! I know that even If I should ever become disabled or home bound in my old age the whole world is just a click away.

Yes there were downsides...we lost so many to the Vietnam War, I was born a few years too early to be taken seriously in school when I wanted to become a vet. (business and typing classes ugh), we fought Communism but socialized our own country, but all in all I've had a great ride.

When I was a little girl I dreamed of living when Laura Ingalls Wilder lived but now I'm happy to be in this time period to witness all the great developments going on

Unlike most of you,I would rather have been born in the 1800's.

Having had lived in the country,very isolated and secluded,living off of the land the way I/we did for the (up to 5 years ago) 30+ years,living way back when,with the likes of Laura Ingalls Wilder would have been quite easy/simple for me
