exterior stair lighting question--please help!

We are redoing all of our hardscape and I have a lighting question that I can't seem to find the answer to... we live on a downslope and, coming from the street to the house we will have 7 steps down that are 7.5" high, a flat patio area and then another 9 steps down of the same height. The width of the stairs range from 48"-56".

We would like to light the stairs using louvered inset lights (see link) but would like to insert one of these fixtures in every other step--worried it will be overwhelming/unattractive if we install one in each step. Will one in every other step provide adequate lighting to navigate the steps at night? Should they be centered? These lights come in widths ranging from 5"-9". I'm assuming we'd need the 9". Or, perhaps the 5" with on the left side and one on the right step of the alternate steps? How do I know what will provide adequate light? Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Here is a link that might be useful: Focus SL-04 12V Louvered Brick Light
