Lunch with the Evil One!

Yesterday! Sorry we both forgot cameras, and I even forgot to bring my phone to lunch. Jessica went out of her way and shopped at Sur La Table to get a housewarming gift for me.

I took pix but my camera ran out of juice right after, so I'll post them tonight. She got me a cherry-pitter and some nice, large canning jars. Thank you again Jessica, you didn't need to get me anything! (But I'm so happy you did!)

It is finally summer here and we've had some sweltering weather this week, which dampens my appetite. So I suggested Yogurtland for lunch! It was close to the beach, refreshing and I added a bunch of fresh fruit to my concoction so it would seem less like eating dessert for lunch.

Afterward we walked around the area and stepped in to a local bead store - so many gorgeous beads, so little time to use them!

It was great seeing the Evil One again! (Yes, she was wearing her trademark Crocs - in red!) I'll be back with the pix of the cherry pitter tonight.

Yeahhhhh, another get-to-gether. Can't wait to see the pics. I wished I had a cherry pitter for the first time in my life this week. Great going Jessy!

Yogurtland looks like my kind of lunch place, I'd take the gingerbread with some sliced fresh peaches. I don't even CARE if it sounds like dessert.

I hope you like that cherry pitter, I love the one Elery bought. I'll watch for those pictures...

whistle, this is my version of the caramel apple cocktail: butterscotch schnapps 3/4 jigger 1/2 wine goblet glass filled with sparkling apple cider rim glasses with cinnamon sugar *I put the sugar rimmed glasses in freezer until ready to serve Overnight french cheese toast **My son is 48 and I've been making this since he was 8. 4 slices bread or french toast and cut to fit in a grease pyrex dish *Make sure they fit side by side. 2 eggs beaten with 1/2 cup milk 1/4 tsp dry mustard 1/2 tsp salt 2 cups grated cheese Mix all of the above and pour over the bread. Hey, didn't I bet with you Jessy about last night's All-Star game? I seem to remember that I bet on the AL and you bet on the NL. Shucks, I lost. David, you are going to love those olives! Jessy introduced me to them. Now I have to ration them out to Raymond because he will eat an entire can in one sitting...and they ain't cheap.

Our school lunches are $2.65. The lunches here seem decent. They offer 3 main meals each day. Everyday there is also a choice of Yogurt, Hummus or PB&J sandwich. With the above you get a choice of fruit, veggie or starch. There is also a salad bar option. I have checked the lunch menus all year and was THRILLED to see NO FRENCH FRIES EVER. I think that's great! Although there is pizza every Friday, but the portions are small and kid appropiate. We also have a credit system, where I place money on her account. Kids don't handle money at all if they don't want to. I can also get an itemized list of what she has bought. My DD brings her lunch 95% of the time. Once a month they serve "Breakfast for Lunch" (Pancakes, turkey sausage & milk) which she absolutely loves. But I am very happy to pack her lunch since I know it's healthy and foods she enjoys and will eat. Normal day she gets turkey, carrot sticks, fruit (like apple slices, grapes) and popcorn. Kids are not allowed to "trade" or bring Candy for the snack, but I'm sure it goes on. My DD is picky, so she would not eat a school lunch each day-heaven forbid the sauce touch the pasta!! LOL My issue is that kids may take the veggie or fruit option but not eat it. Or just choose the starches and ala carte "junkier" items. I think our school system does the best they can with foods most kids like (Baked chicken tenders instead of fried) Most of the breads are Whole grains each day etc. Nice selection of fresh fruits. When I was in school the lunches were so/so. I knew my mom's fresh food was better then the mass produced, waiting under a heat lamp school lunch. I normally brought my lunch as it was MUCH quicker too. But you could have spent your "lunch" money on a meal of Twinkies and chips! I understand your situation so well. My boyfriend is ultra touchy about his 5 year old too so I know what it feels like to be in a no win situation. And I've often felt like an intrusion myself. My boyfriend can shout very ugly insults to me as well when it comes to his child. I also understand your disappointment about possibly not having children with your husband. I never considered myself maternal, but I fell so madly for my boyfriend that I actually thought one day it would be great to have a child of our own, but that possbility is very small. He's crazy about his son, but his arrival was not planned and I don't think my boyfriend wants to do it again. There are so many negatives to staying in a situation like that for me that I'm considering cutting my loses as hard as it will be. For you, since you are married and in way deeper than I am (at least legally), I would try counselling. Dealing with three children that are not your own, I can only imagine how overwhelming that is. If your husband won't go with you, then go for yourself. But try to do it with your husband because sometimes people are so clouded by what means so much to them (your husband's children) that they can't see what they're doing until a 3rd party points it out. I know it easier said than done because my boyfriend flat out told me he won't do counselling. It really broke my heart. He's extremely cold at times and it's sad. But even if your husband won't go, you still probably need to go for your own sanity.

Sounds like a great afternoon with a friend. I know all about bead stores thanks to Cathy, May, and Karen a couple of year ago in TN. LOL! I'll check back for the pics later.

Gina, that is the same brand cherry pitter that elery bought, we pitted 30 pounds of sweet cherries in less than an hour, it worked great. Way better than pitting with a straw or a bobby pin, both methods I've used in the past.

Once in a while it missed one, but not very darned many, maybe half a dozen out of 30 pounds!

(yeah um Annie gee I wonder where I got the idea for the Leifheit turbo pitter heh heh)

Gina has a wonderful new place and I could NOT come over without a proper CF housewarming gift - especially since she had waited four hours for autographed Pioneer Woman cookbooks, one of which was destined for me - I was supposed to be WITH her but my DH commandeered me instead!

The best part was Odo's greeting. He likes me!

Must have been fun! Now I'm thinking I need a cherry pitter but at the price of cherries I don't thing so!
