Driving on ice is very dangerous inded Moni...rather drive on snow.. enjoy your day off. Do they saltand sand the roads there or not, my guess would be not, since this weather is not a usual occurance.

Yes, they do salt and sand the roads here. But they suggest people to stay home.

I honestly thought, we would be at work today, and got up when the alarm went off. Did not even look out, till after I saw on TV that the metro schools are closed.

Our schools are closed too! Sleet is the worst to drive on, especially when it gets packed and melts a tiny bit on top.

We are still open. The temp is right above freezing. We are getting plops of slush instead of rain or snow.

Better to be safe.... I knew you left H.D. but didn't realize you were working at the schools. Must have missed that post. How do you like it?

Maire, I like it. The pay is less, the hours are less, but I have a regular work schedule! and get home before the day is over.

School holidays off is excellent! and I get to eat there without any cost to me.

My boss at HD really did me a favor, when he refused to let me off Saturdays April till middle of June. :)

my uncle was a teacher but to supplement, he was an ins adjuster in the summer, lol....and my cousin is a secretary and works year round...

I get a salary, which means, paycheck year round. Yes, I do get summers and spring break, fall break etc. off.

No, I am not going out for another job during that time. I will enjoy my time off, go bike riding, work in the yard, visit the grand children etc.!

Our schools in OKC are considered year round. Which amounts to 2 weeks break for spring, 2 months break for summer, 2 weeks for fall, 2 weeks for Christmas (which is called winter break) and assorted holidays off here and there.

Everything in KS is at a stand-still...no schools and even the malls are closed! Just staying in and praying that the power does not go for! We need the moisture, but really wish that it would have rained last week when it was in the 60s...but no one can control mother nature!

I didn't know about your new job. Sounds perfect! Judging by the picture, it was a good call. Nothing worse than driving on ice. Or even getting out of the car and walking on it. Stay safe.

Lucky you called first. I am surprised you don't have a phone chain if the school will be closed.
When my kids were in school, I was lucky to have a friend who worked at the school and if there was a closing or late delay she would call me as soon as she got the call.
Took the guess work out of waiting for it to be posted, or emailed or hearing the fire station horns etc.

My sister, who was born, raised and learned to drive in Michigan, lived in Tulsa for 5 yrs. She loved those Oklahoman snow/ice days because the inexperienced drivers got off the roads and she, with her snow/ice driving skills, could get everywhere so much more quickly!

Moni, it's the same here too when we have ice roads. Fortunately, we haven't had any this year in Houston, TX.

I remembered when we were living in Colorado, the first thing we did when we got up during winter storm days was checking how bad was the snow. Then, we'd turn on the radio to see if school was closing. Man, the snow was falling harder and harder and schools were still opened!

We moved down here and at the slightest sleet, not even ice, everything was closed. LOL....
