I too, am looking for work and very regretful that I didn't graduate college! lol

I'm sorry, but it may be the best thing to happen to you. I'm seriously thinking of working a couple days a week delivering pizza to make a little extra money. I've been working overtime at work but I think pizza delivery would be less stressful.

in the meantime since they laid you off you should be entitled to Worken's compensation pay check it out

I kind of got laid off, too, back in Oct, I haven't worked since mid-Oct. He'll call me when he needs me, he says, but he's not wanting to work too hard and I guess no one is coming in to get things framed right now. Drat. I have a little job coming up teaching some sewing classes, maybe... it's kind of iffy and I've never taught. It's a little bit scary!

Good luck, Trin, and yes- workman's comp is great to tide you over in the meantime.

I am sorry Trin, but just because of the money issue. I am sure you will find something that you will at least enjoy. I have heard that the census people are hiring like crazy- let me know if you want the number. It was given to me just yesterday- file for unemployement and rest a bit!

Here we have EI,or Employment Insurance for lay offs.

Know you said not to be sorry, but I am. I got laid off once and it's an icky feeling. Maybe you'll get a week or two off before it's back to a new old grind!!!

Awww, you all are so sweet. I was shocked to see so many responses to my post.
I can always count on my KT friends to say just the right thing.
I am looking forward to getting the "Brandy" pup trained right, and fixing a few things that have gone astray in the house. I think I will take a week or two to gather myself and get some things done.
The hardest part I think, is feeling like I am an outcast or a throw away. I am sure it is a part of the thinking of being laid off. I really will not have a pity party about it. I have better things to do.
I just hope that somebody out there needs me to work for them. We shall see!
My DH is taking it harder than me.
Maybe I will feel crushed later, but for now, I am ok.

I can commiserate, Trinity. I got laid off 4 times in less than 10 years - companies going out of business. They were old companies, too. I signed up for unemployment the next day and back then you had to go into the office. Now you can do it online. Good luck, Trinity!

Best wishes for you, Trin. I'm sure one of the emotions you're feeling right now is relief! to get away from that place. Also ... rejected, unneeded and unwanted, and that's a tough pill to swallow. Soon will come the anger ... just wait a day or so! LOL!

I'll be praying for the right job to come along for you, one that needs your skills and is a good fit for you personally. In the meantime, I hope you can enjoy your time off. Go right down and file for unemployment, so that gets started ... I've heard it takes a couple of weeks to get going.

I am so sorry to hear this Trin. Just remember it had nothing to do with you, but rather the times we are in right now. My DH came home yesterday with the news that his boss was laid off as well. All the co-workers felt so bad about it. I hope the next job you get will make you happy & appreciated. Wishing you the best of Luck!

Sorry to hear the news. A lot of that is going around lately. DH got laid off about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Not a lot of jobs in his speciality out there. You just got to take it one day at a time. Hopefully something will turn up that you like.

You do have a good attitude about this. I'm worried about my company's stability & am currently looking for another job.

Make sure to start reaching out to your network. I've approached a ton of people I know & explained my situation. They are all keeping an eye out for me. I got a call this morning with a possibility to apply for.

Trin, I'm very sorry to hear your news. I got laid off on Wednesday (01/21). This is my second time through the process and I have to say it's much easier. My DD was laid off in Nov. and hasn't found anything yet.
First time since she was 14 that she hasn't had some kind of work.

I said workman's comp, too, but also meant unemployment. We used to joke all the time at work, boss and I did, everytime I'd cut myself (almost a daily occurance) and I would holler "workman's comp, workman's comp!" So it's always on the tip of my tongue. (Not that I would ever file for it, unless it was a huge deal and not my own fault.)

I think getting let go from a less than pleasant job will turn out to be a big blessing, Trin. Yay for fresh starts!

Trinity, sounds to me like it's the perfect opportunity to take a short break and then find something that's more to your liking!

Enjoy your time off and in the meantime, do some networking among people you know. I'm bettin' a great new job is in your future!

I did apply for unemployment online today. Something the HR guy at my job urged me to do saying they would have no problem with it. So at least I do have that to help. I was given a severence check for 2 weeks pay and my vacation time so that will also pad me.
I think that, like many of you have suggested, will spend some time re-organizing my house, and getting some things done. Make myself useful and balance myself a bit.
I know that many of you are faced with this same down turn in life, so I know I am not alone.
