brining a chicken?

I've always been wondered how to get a good flavor all the way through a chicken, instead of just on the skin. I've put herbs (and even a lemon) inside the chicken cavity and under the skin and I really coudn't taste the flavor. I was going to buy a flavor injector, but I asked Cathy about it at the FFFF back in may and she said that she prefers to use a brine instead.

Anyone have any good brine recipes? How long do you leave the chicken in the brine?

Has anyone had good luck with a flavor injector?
