FL washer suggestions, please

Hi,

We're moving and will need a new washer and dryer. I've previously had a Kenmore FL (one of the early ones that were FriGEmore triplets) and currently have the Bosch Axxis set. I like FLers.

I do not have exact measurements yet, but need to get started on my research. I have been told that the space will hold a "full-size washer and dryer." (I'll have exact measurements by the end of the week, but I want to be ready with a couple of options so I can order right away.)

The w/d will be in the kitchen so noise is a definite factor.

I would prefer something bigger than our current Bosch Axxis machines.

I've been pleased with the Bosch appliances we've had, but I am not married to them.

The w/d will be on the lowest floor of the building.

Less expensive is better than more expensive. Of course.

I do want a santizing type cycle as we all have dustmite allergies and I like to wash our bed linens on very hot.

I do not otherwise care about fancy cycle options and will most likely never bother to use them.

My first thought, based on just a bit of research, is a Bosch Nexxt 300 set.

You are going to have to get your measurements. If they are going under a counter, that is going to limit your choices. If you look you'll find heights can vary by one or two inches depending on models. Depths stick out more for the capacity of the washer. Do you have room in front of the machine, with the door open?

So once you determine if certain machines will/won't fit then go to your next choice. Make a list of the machines that are really quiet and have the sanitize/allergy feature. Next would be the cost issue. How much are you willing to spend? Answering these questions should really narrow down your choices.

Maximum width for each machine is 32.5 inches. No constraints on height or depth (well, there are no machines big enough to hit the constraints to be more precise).

Any suggestions?

I too wash some things separately. I don't know why sometimes, I just do. Because of that (and many other reasons) I LOVE my FL LG washer. I don't remember the model anymore, but it has the allergene and the steam and an internal heater. It came in red and blue too I think, but I don't have extra $ for that stuff. I honestly don't use half the settings. I probably use the sanitary setting most often, followed by the regular cycle. One of my favorite reasons why I love it - it 'senses' the size of your wash (supposedly) and adjusts accordingly, so I don't feel bad if I have only a small load but need to wash it anyway. On the other hand, I can wash my king size down comforter, my couch slip cover, if necessary I can press a button to add extra water at the beginning to get bulky stuff wetter, and it *does* also have a spin only cycle. I bought it last August for around $800 - $900. Too much money to spend, but worth every penny to me. Oh yes, another big favorite - the delay start. I set it up at night, and in the morning when I wake up I already have a load ready for the dryer!! How cool is that?

FWIW I noodled around the manual a bit more and I found that 'stain removal' might make me happy. It sends in cold water (profile wash! not that I need it, but still) and heats the water to 'the selected cycle's temperature'. Adds about 20 minutes to a load. That'll make me happy, if I end up wanting more time. So far, so good with the shorter wash. ===========>>>>READ THISI just went downstairs to check my load of sheets (two queen flats sewn into a duvet, two twin fitted Xlongs, six pillow cases). This configuration is particularly finicky for my Danby - and it was also for the Bosch, the load was pretty wet. Thank heavens I insisted on any model that had a rinse/spin option! Every machine should have that option!

Since you aren't getting much response from owners of those particular models I will add my two cents worth. I have the older version of these machines - the Duet Sport 8500. They are almost 4 years old and still going strong with no problems. Well, the knob cracked but Whirlpool replaced it free of charge. It looks like there have been some changes to the machines - including a price drop - but they seem to get good reviews on sites like Best Buy. They are a good combination of size, options and price and I think more people should look into them. Members of this forum tend to buy the high-end (most expensive) machines even when there is no reliable data that they are better. They may impress your guests but the clothes don't know the difference. If you buy the 9150 you may have extra money to buy some new clothes! Good luck with your purchase. Let us know how it goes.

I have had the LG 2688 + macthing dryer for a few months and love it. I've read that there may be some issues trying to get them serviced.
