That's wonderful!

Reminds me of some friends of ours who went on an exotic vacation last year. They were there for a week. When they got home, Glen sent an e-mail to his "e-mail buddy list," to tell everyone about the trip. He said he would send us the entries from a daily journal he'd kept while on the trip.

For one of the days, Glen had detailed the great breakfast buffet they'd gone to, telling all of us about all of the wonderful food choices he'd had. And the killer line of that day's entry was, "Joyce had the chocolate milk."

Ah, I guess you "had to be there," but hubs and I still laugh about that one.

That's funny, Lindsey! I love those "I guess you had to be there" stories. DH and I have some that don't make it in the telling, but keep us laughing when we use the "killer line" on each other.

I can just see you or your DH going into detail about something then give a pause and a sigh and end with "and then I had the chocolate milk"!

LOL it sounds like some of the news from our local Cow Country Courier.

That brings back memories from my youth. My grandma used to write for our local paper and it sounded similar to above. The only bad thing was that she would call on I think it was Monday and start asking us what we had been doing and she'd put that in the paper. One time my mom called in sick for work and she let me stay home sick from school and we went shopping. Yep, it showed up in the paper. Boy was my mom ticked. From then on when she'd call, I'd hear my mom saying "this better not be in the paper."

Takes me back to my childhood, too. If there was a shower they would report on all the refreshments. Also, if anyone had company they would report on that. Looking back, it was kinda sweet. Oh! the good old days!

I'd forgotten how they used to report in our local papers. There were correspondents for all the teeny, tiny towns, and they all reported things just like you posted. I kind of miss hearing how Mr and Mrs Jones spent their Sunday afternoon kind of news.

(Scissors: that was hilarious to read but it wouldn't have been one bit funny if it happened to me. lol)

Miss Marguerite must throw one heck of a bash for poor LaVerne to fall of the porch and get a black eye--sorry, but I'm laughing so hard I'm tearing up!

Heck, our little weekly paper still has all that kind of reporting in it.

Anything that happens in Clarksburg includes the address of where the incident too place! they also include the names of the officers and fire fighters who attended the event.

Eric and I just laugh. Could not imagine how long the Atlanta papers would be it they included all that info!

Donna 37....Yep! We get a weekly paper too and it's full of community news, happenings....and mishaps! We moved here 30 years ago and I learned early on to read all the obits and all the small surrounding communities news to learn who's related to whom. You can't move into a small town and make remarks about someone you've met that didn't impress you because you'll find that you're talking to that person's relative.....yikes! So, like the mother of the groom, I wear beige and stay in the background..LOL!

How long had she lived there?

Don't tell me that she was a Janie-come-lately!

But her Mom must have been a long-term fixture in the place if they made her correspondent. They don't do that to someone who moved in last year.

Several years ago, in my first church, they'd provisionally closed one congregation of six on the pastoral charge, which was so poor that they needed help from central church funds. They'd promised to re-evaluate the closing later.

One woman said she didn't see how they could continue, and when I said that at the meeting she could make a motion about that if she chose, she objected, saying that there was no way that she could do anything like that.

When I asked the reason, she said that she'd only lived in that community for fifteen years.

Many city folks would have no idea what she meant ... but, having grown up in a rural community, I knew exactly what she meant.

My hometown in NE PA-still has the family run newspaper that publishes these little tidbits-in their weekly. Everyone can't wait to read in every Thursday. They have the paper online as well. Each little 'burg' has a correspondant who reports her village's local happenings.
40 yrs ago when the current editor's dad was alive, running the paper-he made up a small burg column-named it "Jester Hill" and had funny stories about its townspeople. For YEARS, visitors to the area would stop by the paper to ask for directions to Jester Hill. Generations of this family have run this independantly owned newspaper for over 100 years.In fact-I used to work there in sales-they even have the antique printing press in the back room that their ancestors used to publish the paper! It's great to be from a small town.

aahhh the joys of small town life...i miss that and hope to be back to it someday!

Oh that looks like the news we'd get in our old hometown newspaper. It came out once a week. And someone would call to see what you'd done the week before. Baby/wedding showers and the guests names. Who had a baby and the parents and grandparents names etc.
So and so went to coffee at so and so's house on Tuesday afternoon.
Yipper, those were the days.
