cafe curtains WITH full panels
Comments (21)I have not actually been to a JCPenneys in probably 20 years. :) I really don't get an opportunity to shop much, nor do I really like to. My prime shopping hours are 4-6am. and nights on the weekends. I am not sure that Penney's will have a color I am happy with either. the white, as seen and commented on in previous threads, does not look good in this room. Believe it or not I am lucky enough to have a Calico Corners within 5 miles of my office. I happen to drive by it whenever I visit my favorite lunch place Organico Cafe. I think at this point my best bet would be to stop wasting time and to bring in a paint sample, a picture of the room and one of the long panels and see if they have a fabric for the sheers. I wonder how much it would be? I have never set foot in that store before. If any one is still reading along, anything else I should bring with me to make a good decision? I will probably bring a sample home to see it in my light and against the carpet in the room too before making the final decision if the price is doable. I just looked up their site to post a link and they are having a sale this month. 5 days left. I guess I better get moving. Here is a link that might be useful: Calico Corners...See MoreCurtains... 3 views, pictures!!
Comments (15)Huh, I don't like valances but I still have a set up in my beroom because it's a alrge room and I really wanted to pull some of the bedding pattern over to the other side of the room. So you're undecided about WTs, and I'm a hypocrite. Happy Monday. :) I like one long rod. I think windows and sometimes even doors that are in close proximity to each other (say a foot or two) and/or not separated by some other feature like a fireplace, always look best when treated as a single feature. If you'll be closing them, I'd use at least 4 panels (one on either end, and one at each break/wall space in between). The panels in PO's pictures aren't the right length for the windows. They look like they're a good 3 - 4 inches above the floor, and I'm thinking that may be why they don't look quite spot-on. I like high rods, I have them myself, but I have 9 foot ceilings. And I don't have them super high in all rooms, just where the height is balanced by the room size and window width. Panels hung ceiling height on little 24" windows flanking a fireplace always look like someone is trying to hide little windows (IMO). I like the white panels, but it makes me crave a deeper wall color. If you're keeping the pale wall color, I might like to see soething like a persimmon color, which would also pick up your flower, throw pillow, and arm chair....See MoreCafe rod/curtains with roller shades?
Comments (20)Tina, That is my alternate option---I even have the linen white sheers picked out. There just isn't much space between the bed and the windows (there are 2 windows with the bed right in between) so I'm wondering if the side by the window will get bunched up and look crowded. Tried having the sheers end at the windowsill and I didn't like that....Only like that look (in this room at least) cafe-rod style.... which brings me back to my dilemma. I know your suggestion is the safe route---I just want to make sure I absolutely can't make the cafe curtain idea work with a shade before I give up and go with that option. So my 2 ideas are the reverse roll shade, or the fabric "psudo valance" that come with the shades. Or, wonder if I could just add some wood to the top of the window (like where the fabric valance would go---as seen in the picture up top) but paint it white---and maybe it would blend in with the moulding?...See MoreHomespun Cafe Curtain Sites, Please?
Comments (6)OK. The top--I assume you are using a standard 5/8 inch cafe rod. To make a rod pocket top--Fold down the top. You will need a 1 inch pocket for the rod and if you want a ruffle on top you will have to allow for that too. No ruffle--fold the top down 1 1/2 inches turn under 1/2 inch and sew. I find it sews easier if you press and then sew. A ruffle on top can be any size you want it, from 1/2 inch to 3 inches, but not too much unless you have a fairly stiff material. When you make a ruffle on top, you have to sew 2 seams one on top of the rod casing and one below. EG: Using a 3/4 inch ruffle you would fold the top down 2 1/4 inches and sew. Then measure 3/4 inches from the top and sew another seam. The rod goes in the bottom casing. In my opinion they look better with a small ruffle. The hem on small curtains should be no less than 2 inches. I like to make mine about 3. If you decide to make a top--in your words the ruffly part do the same thing. You get the fullness of the ruffle and curtains from the width of your material....See Morenanny2a
