Love that color! I do not have fun pieces, and I was reading Soule Mama yesterday and questioned myself about that. I love her home! It is so warm and inviting. It's not like my house is any museum (unless there is an IKEA and Craigslist one somewhere!) but I think I need to make it more about my kids . . .more fun, and less trying so hard (and failing).

Now, how the heck do you work on furniture with your kids? The only time I can start projects is 11 p.m. and I just don't feel like it by then . . .trying to find way to get some sewing done!

That is gorgeous!!! I love the color. You must show us a photo of it in your house. Hmmm.... that gives me some great ideas.

This is not a piece of furniture but it is a piece of built in cabinetry that needed help. It was a sort of whitewashed maple with a pinkish hue. I painted it a soft sage and then added some cream and then glazed it. I replaced the hardware and added some baskets.

With kids I have to work around them. Naps from the baby, my 8 year old helps with my 4 year old if my husbands not home. When I am sanding or working outdoors I drag out the bikes and scooters and let the kids play while I watch them and work. Sometimes they help me too!

Here it is in the room, I haven't figured out how I am going to decorate the top just yet. Maybe add a lamp, books, plant and do a cluster with the blue vases that are there now.

This green chair is the one that people ask about. I found it in a consignment store. I think the ladies who work there thought it would sit there forever. Priced around $60, I grabbed it. They kept asking if I was going to recover it. Horrors no, I love that green!

Hard to see in detail but the entire chair is painted in small stripes of brown, darker orange and red, and then flyspotted with black, part of a hand-painted set by an apparently famous Los Angeles decorator in the 70s.

I have a camel saddle that came back from Egypt many years ago with a friend who had tossed it into the trash. It's just a cheap tourist thing, and it had an awful dirty white faux leather cover with even more awful gold embossing of landmarks, and some cut leather fringe.

But it charmed me, so I swiped it back, cleaned it up, and had the seat reupholstered in red leather. Sadly, the brass fittings that belong on either end of the top were long gone, but someday perhaps I'll find some for it.

I have a small table with the three wise monkeys carved into the top. It sits at the top of my entry stairs and makes me smile whenever I see it. I moved it to a room with better lighting to take the picture.

I love, LOVE, LOVE that green chair! I think I would have scooped that up asap too!

I was going to paint my dinning room chairs bright orange! But I think I may go with red.

Check out these green bad boys I got free off craigslist. They gave them too me because I email them and called them "Totally awesome funky fresh chairs I must have" I love them. They thought they were 'ugly'

bronwynsmom - we also have a camel saddle stool. Dh's parents bought it back in the early 60's when they were stationed in France, and dh fondly remembers himself and his siblings "riding" it around the living room as children. It was a bit worse for wear when it came into our possesion, but a few years ago, I had it repaired and recovered. The original very worn teal with gold embossing leather seat is still intact under the new cover.

I suspect that we all have more things from other countries in our houses that we even realize! But I know what you mean. We often bring back a useful thing or two when we travel, although we don't spend time shopping when we are visiting other places. Finding them is serendipitous.

I can't leave France without linens, or England without silver or books, or Italy without some lovely textile. Not that we travel so much, but if we could, we would.

But there are things from everywhere that are so much more available. Look around - you might be surprised at what you can find on line, second hand, or in an import shop of one kind or another.

Here is the slipcover I made to turn the end of a sectional into a chaise. Quirky and my favorite thing in that room.

Carrie, I love what you did with your saddle! Much better than mine. I think yours was better to start with, too, but when you describe the original cover, it sounds very familiar.

I fear my kitties would have a field day with that wonderful fringe, but I envy your camel head all to pieces.

I don't have anything presently that I'd call "fun" but I was just looking at my coffee table yesterday and thinking about what color I could paint it. I painted it an espresso color several years ago but did a crappy job. Dh has a friend who offered to paint it for me (what he does for a living) but I haven't taken him up on it yet. I've been toying with the idea of painting it a color like red or turquoise, but can't decide as I was thinking of changing the color scheme in that room in the near future.

It's wonderful but I admit I cannot deal with those little eagle pulls. I pulled the little eagles off the back of mine and left just the brass eyelets and the handles. Changed the whole look of my "colonial" bedroom set. If you'd like a real explanation, I'll be glad to post it. It looks like yours might be a perfect candidate, the trick is to make sure those handle holders (eyelets) go through to the back in one piece. Great color-good eye, hubby!

This settee adds some fun to my long skinny room; it fits nicely into a little alcove between the open kitchen and living room. I bought it for $50 off craigslist and found the fabric on ebay and another online site. A local upholster did a nice job with my drawing specifications on what goes were. The settee colors go well with the two matching burnt peach/orange $35 craigslist chairs at the very end of the room (the upholstery on those was in perfect condition).

Love the color paint you chose!! Really makes a statement and I'm getting soooo tired of all the white everywhere!

One of our fun furniture items is this old school desk, which we use as an end table (even though the top has a bit of a slant).

...another is this old Table Talk Pies cabinet/shelf thingie. It's in our dining room/library and displays a lot of souvenirs from traveling. However, we are in the process of jazzing up this room a bit, and I might be moving the shelf to the basement for DD's craft supplies.

I LOVE that Table Talk shelf! I have several Table Talk Pie tins which I treasure. Do you know the song by Patty Griffith? There's a great video upload of the song and images on You Tube, I'll link it below.

I picked this whimsical piece up at a CB=Cracker Barrel, one day when there for dinner in the gift shop, and I love it! it sit's next to my recliner in our media room, and holds many items that I need handy, like remotes, charger cords etc. etc. I love the carved rose pulls, the whole thing is adorable and useful.

Here's mine. It's a one-of-a-kind piece of art done by a well-known New Mexico artist. It was the first prize in a raffle I entered at an art show several years ago. I love it. DH isn't at all crazy about it because he says it looks too much like a Texas Longhorn's chair, a team that's a huge rival of his beloved Oklahoma Sooners (LOL!). Sorry to any Longhorn fans out there. But, I kept it anyway. I originally put it out on our deep, covered front portal . . . until I found out these chairs (different designs) were selling for $850 each! Here it is in our guest room. It's solid and very heavy! I have a sheepskin on the seat for added comfort. I think it works great, as there's a lot of other Western art in here, and our guests have all seem to like it, too. But . . . every once in a while I'll find a crimson and cream OU tee shirt wrapped around the sheepskin and an OU cap on it's head by some "unknown" prankster (LOL!).

That has got to be one of the most fabulous fireplaces I have ever seen. I do not wish to highjack but wonder what sort of stone that is.

in the stone. I saw it on a building and I knew it would make an
awesome fireplace. We went to a stone yard and gave them the
address of the building and they told us what is was.( at the stone yard
lots of stone looks the same )

This is an antique piano bench...the claw feet wrap
around glass feet. All our antiques have been passed
down from hubby's grandparents and great grandparents.

This is an antique washstand. It had been down in our basement for years...It is oak and took on a blackish
hue, so I painted it...I know what was I thinking?

This is it after I refinished it. The original lion
head pulls I gold leafed with real gold leaf...
I loved the outcome and took lots of inspiration from it, as we made two end tables for our bedroom
and a perfume cabinet to compliment it.
I keep our sheets in the bottom and a couple of blankets and our pillow cases in the drawers.

My daughters dresser, before her walls were repainted and I added a mirror to the dresser.

My little kiddos soft green beds. One was purple, the other beat up oak when we got them for 100 both. Painted them, and will be adding legs once they get a little bigger.

Here's another one of mine. The bench in our front foyer is actually made from an old turquoise wood shutter and parts of an oxen yoke. I bought it at least 15 years ago for $89 at a nearby small funky local shop. Less than two months later I saw it's twin at a high end furniture and antique shop on the plaza in Taos . . . for $800! They were obviously pricing it for wealthy tourists. I got a great deal but it is so not worth even $200 IMO!
