We have Sicis glass tile everywhere *but* behind the stove - I opted for sheet stainless there and I'm so glad I did. You can really see if you've gotten splatters up there and it cleans up so beautifully. TH\he tile meets it even with where the cabinets stop. We had a plexiglas backsplash (or you could get a tempered sheet glass backsplash) in our last house, and that was easily cleanable too. The *sheet* aspect is what makes it so easy, I think, because there 0% risk of anything soaking into any grout, even if it's sealed.

I think auto glass is a different animal--typically it's laminated with plastic in between layers of glass. Tempered glass like you use for windows doesn't get chips that slowly spread into cracks--instead, the whole thing goes at once into a zillion tiny cubes of glass. I had a bird hit a sliding window once, and it was pretty spectacular. The entire window cracked into a zillion pieces and the only thing that kept it from falling immediately from its frame was that it sagged against a chair that was in front of the window. Does anyone know if it is okay (acceptable under code and also not incredibly stupid) to use untempered glass for a backsplash?

I am looking for the same. New white kitchen in a home built in 1928- my adjacent dining room is also a green. We have wood floors and will have some stainless. I am still trying to figure out countertops and backsplash- designer and architect like white subway. There is a beautiuful green kitchen on this site somewhere I think the name was "Bulkey". You might be able to do the same in grey. If you cannot find it I think I have filed a photo of it. I think it may be a Candice Olsen design. I am wanting a sunnnier color for mine - I tend to love the yellows and am even considering an apricot/paler mango color. Now sure how this would work with the green dining room - but I cannot stop thinking about it. I will keep you posted on my colors as they change. Does anyone have a kitchen that is apricot or mango?

nosoccermom, Yes those tiles were the ones we had actually looked at already. We definitely need a new floor, the old one has been really beaten up and in fact was only glued around the edges, and it's coming up around the wall in some parts, and overall looks dingy. We weren't sure how the color would fit in with the kitchen however. The interior designer recommended something called "grey washed" is what I have written down. I like the appeal of the luxury vinyl, they aren't cold tile, easy to install, and the grout is actually a better version than regular tile group in that it's not porous.
