Son of Sam is a cutie-pie; and I do love him; he is in my heart.

But Harry is my heart.

This one was taken two (?) winters ago.

Harry is truly happy; he just wasn't smiling for these photos.

Sometimes he bites his lower lip just so he won't smile on cue!

Patricia, My Mother died the same exact way as yours. She had been suffering with a stiff neck for a couple of weeks. On Monday (June 4, 2007) she went to the hospital to get it checked. On Wednesday (6th) we found out she had liver cancer. It had spread to her adrenial glands, lungs and into her neck. On Sunday (10th) she was gone. She too went peacefully in her sleep. I know what you went through, she went really fast. Although this is all still new to me, I too feel your pain. Grieving is not easy for me right now. I smelt saukraut (sp?) the other day and thought it was kind of funny as I was driving down the road. I close my eyes and see her smiling face but yet I can not cry. Her services are this coming week end (17th/18th) and she is being buried on my son's (her grandson's) birthday. He is taking it so hard, but there is nothing I can do. I have talked till I was blue in the face and can not gt my brother to budge. I just hope I have the strength to go through this. With God's help we wil get through this. I'm sorry about the loss of your mom. I know you will miss her for the rest of your life. That being said, I think that you should go with your dad to plan his funeral. It most likely will be years before it is needed. However, if he died suddenly, you would feel horrible that you did not do this for him. You would also spend your time second guessing what he would want you to do. It is much harder to plan a funeral when something happens suddenly. Your dad is looking for some peace to know that his final plans are made, and you know what he wants. It will be hard on you, but having to make those plans in a hurry can be so much worse. Think about it -- how many times have you planned for emergencies that don't happen? You take an umbrella, but it doesn't rain -- things like that. I would make the plans hoping that I wouldn't need them for a long time. It is kind of an insurance policy. (This is how I mentally prepare for things). Now, as hard as it might seem, picture yourself making your dad's final plans in 2 scenarios. 1st, with him with you, letting you know what he likes and wants. Then, with him not alive, and you trying to remember what he said that he wanted. I promise you, that when he does go to join you mom, you will be comforted by the fact that you helped him make his arrangements. Remember, this is a gift you are giving him. Bless you.

Hi 3cats... just to offer friendly feedback on a point you made (I'm not arguing/lecturing and don't care what you do :) You seem to feel that because you are ok to wear leather that there would then be no reason to reject fur. There is a big difference which is why most people who wouldn't be caught dead in a fur will still wear leather. Yes, while it would be ideal to be leather free too, leather is a byproduct of the meat industry. No animal is suffering in order to provide you with a pretty coat, unless you are wearing exotics. That is unfortunately not true for most animals with pretty skin. If you care about animals or the message you are sending, perhaps you will want to consider a coat made of something that is also being raised for food.. then you can be as warm as you'd like but not sacrifice your values (if you didn't say you were sensitive to the issue, I wouldn't have bothered pointing this out). On the pricing issue.... my mother has a nice old mink that no one in the family has been willing to wear for at least 20 years. My sister brought it by a furrier last week and was offered $750 for it. They will obviously be selling it for more. So, I guess the prices do vary quite a bit. Cyn427, Thanks for that info. I didn't know it was possible to get down humanely if it wasn't eider down. I'll have to look into that because I try to make humane choices when it's an option. I have an eiderdown comforter and it's the most wonderful thing, albeit not inexpensive. On that note, 3Katz, if you want something warmer and lighter than fur, an eiderdown coat would be superior in every way. It may not fit into your budget though. There is no fur coat that could compare.

So sorry for your loss. McKenzie was a beautiful girl -- such a sweet face. You gave her a wonderful life for many years and a loving path across the rainbow bridge. Several years ago when we had to help our old girl across. Fifteen years earlier we had found her starving in the woods and she was around 2 when we rescued her. We did it at the vets, but we were able to pet her and feed her ham and cheese as the pain medicine took effect and she went to sleep. She had been so arthritic that just seeing her body relax like it hadn't in months gave me the peace I needed to know we were doing the right thing. You did too and I hope you find solace in remembering the wonderful life she probably never would have had without you.

Caroline, when I saw the subject of your post "my heart has fur", I understood and can definitely agree with that statement.

Harry is such a winner..how I'd love to give the big ol' boy lots of kisses and hugs.

I always enjoy seeing those Harry pics..what a face! :)
