I love the fabric! My only concern is that it is a bit large scale to work as those small chair cushions or as a backer in your hutch. The smaller scale one directly below it would work better in that respect. I'd do giant pillow out of the first one though! Or something where it's large scale design could be appreciated. It's spectacular.

I think you did a nice job picking out the fabric. I really like it. I think the small scale is too busy for the chairs. But that's just JMO.

Not sure I agree with fabric for the back of the hutch. I would look for some interesting and colorful serving pieces to use from the 50's.

I like the fabric, but agree with Green Designs that the scale is way too large for the chairs. I think you will end up with a lot of waste, too, because you are going to have to center the pattern to get the design to really show, so depending on the repeat you won't just be able to cut one piece and then the next from right beside it.

I really like the second and third fabrics, and also the small pattern turquoise one in the last fabric pix.

The furniture is beautiful! I would also rethink lining the back of the hutch, at least with something that large and busy - anything you keep in there will simply be lost Also, to me anyway, part of the beauty of this style of furniture is the clean lines and simplicity of design,and I think a large, busy pattern inside there will detract from that.

Maybe you could consider using the large pattern for a fabric-covered cornice above the doors? Then using the second fabric on the chairs would be a wonderful coordinated look. And no florals for your DH to dislike.

I like it if you can get enough of it on a seat to show. It IS a little large-patterned, but otherwise perfect.

I would not put fabric in the back of the hutch unless there is something messed up in the hutch that needs covering.

Thanks for the feedback. The diamond/arabesque is the second favorite. I like the idea of a cornice potentially, but these are inswinging doors, so not sure that would work. DH doesn't like any of the florals or any out of the last batch of small swatches.

Maybe I will forego the fabric inside the hutch. I will really think about that. I agree, some nice pieces back there will look nice (too bad Christmas is over because I have lots of platters, etc., I could dispay), and we've told family members no more barware for gifts. As I posted before, we could pour a drink for the entire GW HD forum.

It would definitely take some precision on my part to center the large pattern on each chair, but I don't think that's impossible.

I'd make a table runner out the the large print fabric just to get it into my kitchen, but it's design is just too large for the chairs. The second runner up, is that the one to the top of the photo with the small samples on the chair? It's not a big enough swatch of it to really tell, but I think the scale is too large with it as well. My personal favorite is the floral. Even though it's a large scale, it's patterned enough to not to have to 100% "center" a design on the seat. But, if your hubby hates it, I guess it's out of the running. That would leave the fabric in the second pic as being "the one".

I love the idea of a runner vs. inside the hutch.

This is just a mockup, but I think this looks OK. Maybe I do not have a trained eye for that.

I love the fabric you've chosen much more than any of the others. Yes, the scale is large enough to be a challenge. But I think if you're careful and exacting with the placement of the pattern on the chairs, it will be wonderful. To me, it's the perfect compliment to the simplicity of Heywook-Wakefield. I don't think I'd use it again anywhere else other than the chairs (i.e. inside the buffet) because it would feel too matchy. Instead, pull the orange and aqua from the fabric and look to incorporate the colors elsewhere in the room. I hope you trust your gut and go with this fabric. Fun!

Yeah. That works. You do get enough of a repeat. What if you centered it on one of the smaller dots? Or, well, you'll just have to play with it to see what works best but I think you can do it. Forty-five degrees? It's just fabric and some time. You won't have to be stuck with it forever so be brave and have fun.

How does long fur come off the fabric? No reason...just wondering. ;)

Yes, I've got plenty of pale blue, the blue fridge and now the new Kitchenaid mixer. MIL also got us the funky beehaive lamp. I saw white with orange and blue stiped tablecloth at Williams-Sonoma.

I assume the fabric is not returnable since it was cut, so here is what I would do. Cover one seat, so you really get a sense of how much of the pattern will show. Laying it on top gives you a different view.

You might try a different layout, to try to get three of the orange dots going across, since they are smaller than the blue ones. This layout you have shown works, but almost ends up feeling like a bulls-eye in the middle of the seat, rather than giving you the repeat of the pattern.

Great job, that fabric is fabulous. Yes it is a larger print, but I have to agree with you, I think if you place it so it's centered and the same on all the chairs, it should be okay. Yes there may be some added waste but sometimes the pay off is worth it.

Thanks, I will play with the pattern and see where it goes. I bought a half yard of all the fabrics because they said that amount could be used for toss pillows for the ones that don't work out. Correct, they're not returnable.

If it doesn't work out, I really like the one at the top of the chair in the photo with multiple samples and think it would fit color and scale wise also.

Oooh! I think turning it diagonal might just work! Try shifting it just a bit, using the blue dots as a straight diagonal from one corner leg to the other. I think that might get the most complete blue circles visible and make the most visual impact.

Same same. Different directions would make a busy pattern too busy.

I like your fabric choice. And I like either way you lay it out except the diagonal. It's going to be great in your kitchen!

I do like the three dots layout better, to see more of the pattern and avoid the bulls-eye. Thanks for trying that.

Not a fan of the diagonal - it messes with the geometry of the pattern, imo. It may also create issues, as placing the fabric on the diagonal may mean it will stretch more as you cover the chairs, and be harder to get a nice result.
