I think it is an interesting idea. You will have to make sure that there is clearance for the outlets for the lamps, so that the moving doors will not knock the plugs out, and also that there is access to both outlets.

Yes, I've thought of that. The doors are 81" long and the ceiling height is 108". That leaves 27" of clearance on the bottom and outlets are at a height of 17". That gives me about 10 inches to work with.

Also, the side tables will be wide chests, so the doors will slide behind them and you wouldn't see the bottoms of the doors.

Do you have pics of the actual doors? Do the green squares on the second mockup represent art that you plan to hang on the doors?

I like it. I think the key will be making sure the look of the doors is reflected in the rest of the room.

If the doors are rustic, I would want wood floors, maybe an iron bed, matelasse, etc.

PS are you planning on make the doors move like barn doors? the hardware can be pricey but it will also add to the look

I like it also. They sell flat extension cords, you could use those - linking below. They might even sell something that is flatter against the wall also.

We have sliding doors to cover TV over FP when not in use (aka whenever DH is not home). They are mounted on heavy duty sliding drawer glides. Not sure if they make long enough for your idea.

Don't know if you've taken it into consideration (at least on your drawings), but you'll either have the track/whatever showing when they are open or closed, unless you cover with board.

I love it and it would make a nice statement in your MB.

I added vintage flat panel shutters on each side of my DR window, inside not outside. I painted them black and have a vintage electric wall sconce on each one. I'm using candles, but may hook them up with cords and with the shutter, the cords will be hidden behind.

Very neat idea can't wait to see the finished product.

I've always loved sliding barn doors used inside so IMO it's a great idea.

Keep in mind that such doors really make a large statement and may need to be balanced with other furniture or in some way in other areas of the room. What are your plans for WT's on the other window?

my3dogs, the doors are still in the garage, but I will try to get my husband to help me bring them in tonight. It's only -3 windchill today unlike yesterday's -45 so maybe he will be more willing to help. :-) Yes, the green squares represent art. I'm not sure what yet, maybe fabric art of some kind.

mtnrdredux and luckygal, yes, it will be a big statement, you're right. The room is 16x16 so there is a lot of room for a big statement. I'm planning on an upholstered headboard and my MIL is a fabric artist so I am hoping to hang fabric art on the doors to help soften the look.

DH and I like rustic, but with clean lines. I would love to replace the carpet with hardwood, but the home is only three years old and I can't justify it yet.

DH also has always wanted a British Colonial look in the bedroom so we will be bringing that in somehow as well. Just a nod, not a reinterpretation. There is plenty of room for a sitting area on the other end of the room, and I was thinking a rattan loveseat or two rattan chairs with fabric seats. As for window treatments on the other window...?? Bamboo blinds maybe with linen curtains?

allison0704, thank you for the link. Luckily, I don't think we will need to worry about interference with the outlets because the doors will be hung high enough that they will clear them. We will be using rolling barn door hinges like in my inspiration. The track will be visible but that is ok with us.

I still have to get the doors in the room and see how it will all go together. It may look ridiculous! I'll keep you posted.

I'd hang the track so that the doors are flush with the top of the window frame, and I'd use flat-plug extension cords so that you could plug in something else if you needed to.

Make sure that the doors will hang and move easily without side-facing wheels at the bottom, which a lot of these doors do need because of their weight. Also check that their bottom edge won't swing back against the wall. If they threaten to do that, you can install flat ball casters near the corners on the back side to hold them away from the wall and help them move easily.

Maybe something like this instead. Our kids are still little so it would be nice to have a place for them to sleep some nights. And a quiet place for me to lounge and read a book that's out of the fray of the rest of the house. I'd load it up with a lot of pillows.

I love this chest for sidetables, but not sure if it fits with the rattan. I like how it brings in a little shine, but still feels rustic.

DH likes this one, but I'm afraid it will bring too much dark wood to that side of the room.

Another resounding yes! Love Bronwynsmom's idea of flat plug extension cords to solve the plug issue.

OK, we brought the doors in and set two of them up. Since the window is 75" wide I need three standard sized doors. I thought three would look strange (non-symmetrical) so I'll be using four. Maybe a bit overkill, but I did a lot of mock-ups and I liked the look of four doors better. They fill the entire wall to the sides of the windows when they are open.

No flash. The lighting difference on the two sides are two different bulbs. DH likes CFLs and I still have incandescents because it is a three-way switch.

Love the idea of the sliding doors. The hardware is pretty expensive though.

I have seen HGTV hang two painted canvases on a track and use them to slide over the window.

I look forward to seeing the progress of the room!

cindyloo, you are correct, the hardware can be expensive. That will be the prohibitive factor, I think. But I'm sourcing out less expensive options. We'll see!

The barn door tracks are expensive because they are mounted to the wall and made to handle extremely heavy doors. If you are not using real barn doors I don't see why you can't just use standard closet tracks and mount them from the ceiling.

I realize this will make it look like your bed is in front of a closet and there will be no rustic effect. You might be able to come up with something unique that you like just as well though. Keep thinking!

That's a thought cindyloo. And I found this solution that would give more of a rustic look.

This is hardware from Tractor Supply. It's not the over the rail rolling system, but it would work. And it would be easy to spray paint it black. As a bonus, it's less than 1/2 the cost of what I've been finding elsewhere.

joanne, that is a beautiful space. So calming. Love the chandelier. I tried to get a similar one in the room, but DH vetoed it. I do have the OK to paint the WIC Dark Purple and put a sparkly chandelier in there. :-)

Wow that was fast. What a cool way to use the closet track. I actually like that look better than the tractor supply hardware.

One last picture. This is the box track system (cheaper than the flat track type with the wheels on top) but without the mounting straps.

Not sure what type I want!

I think it's a great idea. There is a seller on eBay who sells barn door hardware for about $300, which is a lot less than other places I found. It's the wheel system with straps.

The box track system appears to rely on wheels in the base of those doors to carry the weight, and the track guides but doesn't support the doors. You'll want to find out about that, since your doors won't go down to the floor.

But if you can work out the practical details, I think it will look great.

The track system needs no wheels at the base.
What you see at the bottom are door guides .
Be sure to get the track brackets attached to the studs.

That's exactly what I had planned on doing! Went to Tractor Supply today and everything.

I bet you could get hardware pretty cheap at a farm supply store (for barn doors) and you could spray paint it if you want it a different color! I have installed actual barns doors myself - and I don't think you will need to door guide at the bottom since there will be no horses kicking from behind it :)

The wheels fit in like this~And that post is drilled into center of the top of the door.

4 wheels per hanger. 2 sets of hangers per normal door size..
Very little swing.

Oh, so since it has TWO wheels, it is stabelized from the top.

The only part you will have to find locally is the "box rail" track
since shipping cost will kill you.
Mine is 12 ft long so cost+ shipping would have been about $200.
I found it at Lowes for $35.
