I have the same problem after the massive snow we got a couple weeks ago. I don't know when the split occurred - sometime between Feb 6 and yesterday when i uncovered the tree. There was a large split right at the crown (?) of the tree and one of the three primary branches was splitting off too. See pictures before and after my 'repair'. I used cotton rope (might be sash cord), and wound it VERY tightly. The split at the top is pulled nearly completely together, but as you can see from the pics, there's still a little 'crack' showing. I don't think I can pull it together any tighter. Do you think what i've done is good or do I need to adjust, use different materials, or try a different method? Thanks for any advice you can give. -Chris Here is a link that might be useful: split maple and repair

Well, you know what they say about Texas...If you don't like the weather...... I've been itching to prune some things back, but with all this nice warm weather I didn't want to stimulate LOTS of new growth just to have all that green get zapped. So patience has been the virtue I am practicing. All in good time...All in good time....I figure in a couple weeks I should be good to go. I did see a toad last night! Haven't seen those in a couple months.

Here is my about me. My birthday is in July but since it was taken already by the originater of the robin, I am the APRIL person. It was the nearest month left open and works out nicely because it was my mother's birthday month. My favorite color is blue and I do have a preference for blue flowers. I love Iris, and have been adding a lot of Siberian Iris to my gardens the last year. But really I love about anything that is blooming. I am adding a "fairy garden" to an area outside my bedroom that has sun and shade areas. I am trying to add plants with fairy in the name or with bell shaped flowers as well as fairy statues. I have also added several clematis to my garden last year and am waiting to see how they turn out. I am also working on a garden of pink flowers for my little 1 year old granddaughter. I love bulbs, spring, summer or fall flowering. It is very very hot and dry here in the summer and we have alkaline clay soil. I like decorative socks, bird houses, garden ornaments of about any kind, chocolate, and love to read gardening books and magazines. And since some are talking ages, I will be the big 50 this year and loving every minute of it.

Laura, you enabler you! ! :D The Giant Key Lime was one citrus I have seriously considered ordering. I have two Mexican Key Limes, a Kaffir, and a Bearss Lime currently, after I receive my next order from Harris, hopefully later this week, I still want to place an order later this fall with Four Winds for Santa Teresa Lemon and Bergamot Sour Orange etc.. My collection is increasing and I want to make sure I get the ones I have been coveting and that I have room for all of them come winter. After that, if they make it through the winter alright, and my hubby and I finish building another upcycled GH, I will possibly add a few more... Hobby, thank you for the concern about the soil settling and the roots showing. :) I actually filled the pots up just a bit under the rim so I would still have room to water without overflow. The pot on the right had more roots showing than I would like, so I did cover them up a bit more this morning after I watered. I don't mind having a few roots showing though. From what I researched and read, the Bearss Lemon cultivator was selected in a Grove in FL. The parent tree was planted in 1892, supposedly. Description: Is a fast growing tree, very productive, very fragrant blooms and bears an abundance of very juicy acidic fruit July through December. Tree is vigorous, thorny, and sensitive to cold. Bearss out produces both Eureka and Lisbon. The flavor is outstanding. Has up to six seeds per fruit. A true lemon. This lemon is grown in Brazil, much appreciated for its fragrance, . Most of the crop is eaten fresh, some is used for rind oil. I read a lot of positive reviews on the Bearss and heard the fruit has outstanding flavor and slightly larger than Eureka. Win Win for me!! Hobby, the Baboon Lemon would be a good one to add to your list also.. the leaves smell divine!! :)
