Sigh...I made one last week....actually I made 2...ate a piece, kept a piece for breakfast and gave the rest away...

Ann: that is one beautiful pie! I love the top crust technique. Are they individual twisted pieces or did you cut the crust part way then twist?

I made one last week with the rhubarb at the farm, but it was made with Splenda for Dad. Not that I need the calories anyway, but....

It's beautiful, but I have no idea what rhubarb tastes like! And frankly after looking at the price in the market, I'm thinking it's better left that way LOL :)

Out here I seem to see rhubarb mixed with strawberries as a pie.

Pie looks lovely Ann-- only thing I've done with my rhubarb this year is "sauce" it--- and some Rhubarb Fluffs for a bake sale last weekend-- know I'd love a piece of yours !

Funny, here it grows like weeds. Everybody and their brother has a patch. I've never known anyone that's paid for rhubarb. People bring bags of it in to work to give away because they have so much!

If my patch is good next season I'd be happy to send you some!

Ann, I have some beautiful rhubarb that I got in my veggie box from the CSA. I've been putting off making the pie, but I can't any longer. It looks delicious. Enjoy.

Beautiful pie. That reminds me I have to pick up some fresh strawberries because I have tons of rhubarb in the garden and that is my favorite combination.

Clare, I noticed at the farmers market that almost all the rhubarb pies are mixed with strawberries so that must be the way that most people like them. But I'm a purist. I only use rhubarb. I don't like rhubarb pies mixed with strawberries or other fruits.

Ellen, I think that Rhubarb sells for about $2.00 a pound around here. But like Linda mentioned, everyone seems to grow it and give it away. I've been just helping my self all summer to a neighbours. He doesn't it use and told me to take what I wanted.

Westelle, I just cut the leaves out freehand and layer them on top of the filling.

We had the pie for dessert last night, warmed up and topped with fresh whipped cream. Leftovers for breakfast.

Last night we made a pitstop at Whole Foods. Rhubarb (organic) was $5.99 a pound! So I doubt I'll be trying it anytime soon!
I've seen it mixed with strawberries here too, why do they do that?

$5.99 a pound? I wouldn't buy it either at that price.

Ellen, Totally ruins rhubarb for me when mixed with strawberries. My guess is that some people mix it with strawberries in order to sweeten and take away some of the rhubarb's sour taste.

I made your rhubarb pie filling in the spring when rhubarb was first out and I must tell you it was the best rhubarb pie filling I ever ate. I think it was the brown sugar, I don't know but from now on your recipe is the only one I will use.

I can't make pastry for the life of me so I used a frozen Tenderflake crust and it was pretty good. My Mom always made her crust with Tenderflake Shortening and it was always the best. Sadly, I don't have the knack for pie pastry. LOL

I could go for a piece of your pie right now too.

I've always loved you leaf crusts that you have posted over the years.....there is no way in heck I would even try that at six in the morning...LOL Love rhubarb pie but admit I like the strawberry combo too. Really liked your bars that I made not too long ago.

I haven't baked with rhubarb for too many years now. I have a "grove" of it in my once-upon-a-time garden, but the spruce trees have now grown much too lush and shade the entire area. Still, you can't kill rhubarb... This year I dug up another bed below our new deck, and will transplant a few crowns in the fall. I can't imagine PAYING!! for rhubarb.
