Master Bedroom Ceiling Fans

I realize that alot of people seem to be doing chandeliers in their bedrooms, but I really like having the air moving and would prefer a ceiling fan. I don't like the typical ceiling fan that has all the lights hanging down underneath, and this will be the only light source in a small room, in addition to bedside lamps.

The ceilings are 8ft, so I don't want much of a downrod at all, if any. I was looking at a 52" hugger ceiling fan from Minka Aire called the Concept, which is oil rubbed bronze on the base, but the fan blades are plastic because it's rated for outdoor use. I went to look at it in person, and wasn't really impressed with the plastic blades. They do have the same fan in a Mahogany finish with wood blades, but we will have espresso with frosted glass closet doors along 15ft of one side of the room, and the hardwood floors will be Cumaru, which is brown tones. I'm afraid introducing the red tone of Mahogany won't look good. Any other ideas for a more sleek look?

They are interchangable and it can be done that way but if you just wire for a chandelier you won't have two seperate switches (1 for the light and 1 for the fan). There would only be one switch which would control the chandelier. If you switched to a ceiling fan afterward because you only have one switch, which would either control the fan or the light (not both), that would leave you having to purchase a fan with a remote control. If you pre-wire for a fan with two switches to begin with all of your options are covered up front. Hope I'm making sense! :)

If there's electric there it can operate a fan and a light easily. The light kits are meant to work with the fans, so that the wiring passes through the fan to the light to be connected. It DOES look like there's probably a fan box behind that plate (why else would you put a plate there instead of just finishing the ceiling???), but as others have noted, you won't know for sure until you open it up and look. I replaced a ceiling fan with a chandelier in my guest room and still wanted guests to have the option of a fan. It took me over a year to locate it, but this is a Casablanca fan that works like a dream, doesn't make much noise, and is very heavy. They make other models, more contemporary.

a. No it will not make your home more valuable. The only advantage would be that it might help your home sell more quickly than one priced the same with the same level of other finishes that doesn't have the tech stuff. b. If you want to sell the house, you sell it for the going rate. See a. If you don't want to sell it, then you remove it before selling as sushi said. I had some expensive chandeliers and light fixtures in the condo I just sold. I removed them and replaced them with cheaper fixtures before putting my home on the market. I knew I couldn't charge more for the expensive fixtures but could use them in my new build. Lastly, in 5-7 years everything that you installed in your home will be dated so it definitely will not be worth more.

All my bedroom fans are white to match the ceilings and trim. This makes the fan look sleek to me. I have an inexpensive fan from Home Depot and it gives plenty of light. I don't like the tulip lamp shades either. Anyway, I got the Hunter Stratford. Super quiet, easy to install. Very happy. Here's a link to Hunter fans just for the photos. I've never shopped here.
