Cleaning out my refrigerator..uggggh!!!!

Of all jobs this is one I positively HATE!! I sort of do it one shelf or compartment at a time. Out goes salad dressing dated 2007 and sour cream from Thanksgiving!! When I'm done I'll post a picture of it. What a mess...does anyone else have a fridge that needs cleaning out? Everytime I do this I swear I will keep up with it better but I never seem to stick to my guns!

ghoghunter, mine always seems to be in need of cleaning. It's small and old, I think 18 cf and has bungee cords in place of door shelf fronts, LOL, and the light doesn't work so everything gets shoved to the back where I find it later, navy blue and fuzzy.

Definitely need to clean the fridge. Top freezer too, I don't even know what's in THERE.

A few years ago, my sister and I did the same thing: go through Mom's house after she passed on. Mother did not have much money and led a subsistance life. Her Social Security was her main income, therefore, there was not a lot of 'expensive' belongings. However, what she did have packed an emotional punch. It was things we had grown up with, for example, a large ice-tea pitcher from which we had refreshing drinks on hot summer days. A lot of ice-tea and kool aide had poured over its spout. We made a discovery we did not expect. We knew that she often made a quilt during winter so it was not surprising to find 3 of her latest ones we had never seen, bt the was something vaguely familar about the frabric - my sister spotted it. The pieces were from her dresses. She had been cutting up her dresses to make the quilt. Suddently, we realized why she had taken to wearing slacks the last 2 years of her life. We checked her closet - only one dress was there! How do you divide such a piece of handwork? Fortunately, Mom had the solution. There was not just one quilt, but two made fron her dresses. All in all, my sister and I divided up about 8 handmade new quilts. And then, there were the crocheted dolies, some very old that we used when we were home. My sister took most of these. We found my Dad's WW1 uniform that we did not know existed. It was made of wool. On the lapel was a sharpshooter pin. My sister was taking the pin off to give to me and I stopped her. It was my thought that the pin and the uniform should not be separated - I asked her to put it back. She has the uniform with pin. It was olny fitting that she should get something special since I had received a souple of years earlier some family documents during my genealogy search. I got our g-g-grandfather's muster roll from the Black Hawk War in 1832. Our g-g-grandfather was a Captain in that war and his copy of the muster roll was hand written by him. And so, the process continued. I already had many of the family photos. My sister got the sterograph and views. This set included view no.1: Mr. Sears of Sears and Roebuck at his desk. The date is around 1900. In the 1900s, my mother's family shopped from the Sears Catalog. The stero-optican views were premiums. a view was given per a set amount of purchase, say one view per each $10 of order. Mother's kitchen ware was not special, but we discoverd that she had left notes inside each piece as to whom she wished to gift to. It was shocking and sobering at the same time to realize that she had sensed her end and secretly made preparations. It made the job easier of dividing up her possessions, but sad as well, We were re-living our earlier life. Did I get everything I wanted? No, and neither did my sister. We learned all over how to share and be grateful. In the end, it did not matter who got what because either one of us can view the other's share. We only have to make the trip to do so. I inherited the Singer Sewing Machine but we stored it at my sister's house and she has made some clothing with it. In the end, what mattered the most was we being aware of the emotions and attachements of each other and acting accordingly. It 'twas better to forment good will than to be greedy.

By code definition the buried line from the municipal main or septic tank to the structure is called the "House Sewer" while the main line within the structure is defined as the "House Main Drain". Code states that there must be a "Main Cleanout" at the junction of the House Sewer and the Main Drain. The cleanout is generally required to be within 3Â of the point where the house sewer enters the structure. For houses with basements the main cleanout can generally be found within the first three feet inside the basement wall while for slab construction the cleanout will generally be found 3Â outside the footer wall. For structures with a crawl space often there is a limited access in the crawl space so they elect to put the main cleanout outside in the same manner as a slab construction. There are two commonly accepted methods of installing the main cleanout on the exterior: 1. A "Rodding Tee" is installed on the line. A rodding Tee is a specialized Tee that has a radius curve in both directions which would permit rodding, or snaking" the line both upstream and downstream from the point of the cleanout. The line is required to be buried a minimum of 6" below the average frost line of in climates where frost is not a issue it must be a minimum of 12" below finished grade. A vertical riser is then attached to the side opening of the rodding tee and it is to be extended up to finished grade and capped. Keep in mind that the cleanout is generally installed long before the final grade-work is completed and it is extended to the theoretical grade level. It is not uncommon for the riser to be slightly buried during the final grade-work or landscaping phase. 2. An alternate method is to install a Wye & 1/8 bend with the side opening of the Wye pointing in the downstream direction and a riser extended from the side opening up to finished grade. A second Wye & 1/8 bend with riser is then installed slightly downstream of the first one but this time the side opening of the Wye is pointed in the Upstream direction. In this manner the line can be snaked in both directions dependant upon which riser you select. Here again, the risers are initially installed to the theoretical finished grade elevation so they may have been slightly covered during final grading or landscaping.

Remember the solution to most pollution problems is dilution. If you have a 1 gallon, 128 oz, sprayer, and assuming the solution you spray is 1% of the toxic material and you have left one 1 oz of the 1% solution in the sprayer. On the first fill of another 128 oz. of water, the resulting solution has been reduced to 0.0078%. You then empty the container and add another 128 oz. The second solution is now 0.000061%. You do this a third time and it is reduced to 0.00000047%. This is a less that 1ppm of the original solution. or the toxic solution is less that 10 ppb. While my math may have an error, you can see where it is going. To be sure the toxic material is out, check the MSDS sheet and continue the rinsing until the Toxic material is less than the lethal doses shown on the MSDS sheet. To be sure you may wish to add a little surfactant (soap) to each dilution.

The bait could have been stolen by a smaller animal such as chipmunk. They are so light and may not trigger the trap. Some people put the bait under the trap (I am talking about Havaheart kind of trap).

Hi Joanne! I have seen that website before. Thanks for reminding me of it. My fridge is always a mess. It's a side by side which I will never get again. Stuff gets lost in the back. I always have bags if slimy green stuff back there.

I also go on these binges where I swear I am going to eat more fruits and veggies. I buy too many and then throw most of it away two weeks later.

My meat drawer is fill with coke, beer and wine. There is ground beef in the deli drawer. I think my lifestyle doesn't fit the pre-determined categories of my fridge!

Have to say my fridge is in pretty good shape just about all the time...... I say patting myself on the back smugly!

Back two tears or so ago our town introduced a new recycle programme. Under the new programme we could place all food products, meat, bones.... everything, into our Green Cart containers.

The kitchen waste is collected every Friday so now every Thursday I clean out the fridge and toss anything questionable or leftovers that are never going to be used in to the Green Cart.

Works like a charm.....but then there is the freezer ...

Well, mine needs cleaned out for sure.

ghoghunter, that site is a kick! It's funny to see other people's refrigerators. What I tend to notice most is how much wasted space there is in some.

Time to do mine too. Although it's a new fridge, it's smaller than the last one and things get lost because they're stacked one on the other and I can't see what's behind the front row.
When I bend down to see what's inside, the door swings back and hits me on the head and when I unbend to stand up straight I bang my head on the overhead freezer door, even though it's shut.

Just can't seem to win this time around with finding a decent fridge that fits the space in the kitchen.....and doesn't hit me on the head.

I don't know if I want to post a photo of what's inside though.

Last week I cleaned out the bottom shelf under the veggie drawers....I found this delectable dish I had forgotten about.
should we take bets on what it started out to be? I do remember because of the bowl it was in.
But it didn't smell!

Annie, your refrigerator is the soul mate of my old one, non-working light and all. I replaced it a few years ago with my current Amana. You need a NEW ONE. Whatever you buy will save you lots of money in spoiled food. Really. I can't believe the difference.

Eileen, I've just been putting it off because we'll buy a new one when we build out at the farm and I don't want to be stuck leaving a new refrigerator here when I sell this house....

And I'm not taking a picture, LOL.

Can't you move the new refrigerator?

I know that in some real estate markets the refrigerator stays with the house. In this area that isn't so.

Eileen, here the large appliances all traditionally stay with the house, including stove, refrigerator, sometimes washer and dryer. Taking the refrigerator would be similar to taking the furnace.

Yeah....when I found it I was so grossed out I had to share!
I have found many fur bearing things in the back of my refrigerator, but none quite so photogenic!
It was almost as bad as dog vomit fungus!
