Window Treatments -- Puddling?

Does anyone "puddle" their window treatments anymore?

I re-hung the taffeta panels in my LR and DR using different hardware, and now find them to hang about 3 inches longer than initially, resulting in a small puddle of fabric on the wood floor.

I don't find the look objectionable (probably because I'm lazy enough not to want to hem them...), and I don't have pets to mess with the drapery panels, so basically I'm looking for thoughts on puddling. Elegant? Hopelessly out of style? I'm on the fence on this one, and welcome opinions.

The last thread on this subject drew stark and differing opinions (and often heated responses!!)

I'm in the camp that loves a puddled drape, if it's in the right setting. It's a very popular look in our area, where you see a lot of silk window treatments. I think they're gorgeous when they gather just a bit at the floor.

I also personally prefer just a slight puddle, and not tons of fabric just sort of sitting there.

I don't care if it is in or out of style but I have never cared for it. I think unless it is done very well it just looks sloppy and unfinished.

when I worked in a drapery workroom all puddled drapes were fully lined, so the lining puddles too. If you stop the lining at the floor line, they may not puddle right, ie, be too flimsy. My old boss wouldn't even answer if we asked about curtains, lol They are DRAPES we're making she'd say. And this trend has been around forever. I have awful memories of a huge job we did, tall windows, silk fabric, lined, then interlined w/flannel, designer sent them back numerous times even though they were made exactly to order, boy were they heavy to install, uninstall, remake, etc. They puddled in huge puddles, at least 30". I think we remade them 3 times. Hope your project goes better!

We are not window treatment people either, but have started to add some as we've reno'd/decorated a few of the rooms in our house; two bathrooms and our office. They really do help to finish off a room. That said, we're not covering our kitchen bow window, or the DR bow window, though I might consider something for the DR window at some point--just for the window panes themselves, not to cover the whole bow-unit. We used Hunter Douglas' Designer Screen Shades in the Roman Shade style (ours are mounted inside the frames becuase of our window style/frame depth). The shades are very clean-lined and range in sheerness. With the sheerer weaves/fabrics, you can see outside with them down and they allow a lot of light in.

@Melndo The walls are Benjamin Moore Rockport Gray: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/color-overview/find-your-color/color/HC-105/rockport-gray?color=HC-105 Our window is north facing as well. There is a large Japanese maple near the window so we don't get a ton of light there. I have the floor lamps, two table lamps and a light on the ceiling that isn't in the picture to make sure the room gets enough light. We actually use this room as a music room. There is a piano on the wall that isn't in the picture. Hope this helps! Glad you like it. :)

Trying to find a semi sheer window treatment for a 5 window bay window

I recently bought a product called Veilish. It’s a window film made with fabric material. It’s semi-transparent, so it can provide indoor privacy without blocking the view outdoors. The best thing is that it is self-adhesive, and it can be installed and removed easily, so you don’t need an installation expert. I think you will definitely be satisfied with this product.

I personally like it when done right. I think it's worse when they are tad short.

I don't care for it - it looks like someone couldn't be bothered to shorten them. I think it takes the focus away from the window treatments as a whole and draws attention only to the bottom hem.

That said, here is the important part, imo. If YOU like them, it is your house! Do whatever feels right for you.

The drapes in my previous home puddled and I love the look. But, like clockwork, every 2 weeks the cleaning people would come to clean the house and you guessed it, my perfectly arranged "puddle" became a hot mess!! I would fix them and then rinse and repeat. So this go around in the new house, no puddle, the wt's have a trouser break.

I'm in the non-puddling camp. Like Les, I think it looks messy, like someone couldn't be bothered to hem them (or hire someone to do so), and it's such a dust-magnet even if you don't have pets to nest in them or collect hair. It kind of reminds me of the trend a few years ago of teens wearing their jeans six inches too long and dragging them on the floor! I prefer long drapes to just barely think about skimming the floor, I think they look more "custom fitted" (even if they're not!) that way. But, if it really spins your beanie to have your drapes puddled, knock yourself out. :-)

However, I do very much like the bishop's-sleeve tieback style, which can be another way of coping with too-long drapes that one doesn't want to shorten!
