GE top loader water filter plugged

bogman

I have been trying to clean the water/lint filter basket on my old (late 80's) GE top loader and am having no luck. The small holes that allow the water to drain through are completely plugged with some type of white material . I've tried soaking it in CLR, muratic acid, and even denture tablets which was recomended. No dice. In desperation, I drilled out some of the holes. Not a good idea. The holes are actually tapered with the small end at the top so lint doesn't get caught in the holes. Any help would be appreciated.
