Just thought I'd post a picture of my lighted art work. We ended up using just one 4 inch recessed low voltage light with the aiming elbow trim. To me it does not look like it needs the 4 or more lights that the previous poster suggested. There certainly is a big difference in how the art looks with and without being lit. First picture is with recessed light off. The flash made a white spot on picture. Second picture is with light turned on. No flash needed on camera what do you think?

Stay away from Home depot, Lowes and the internet. Go to a reputable electrical/lighting supply house to look at the fixtures and get some free advice. Do you intend to remove the redwood to install new housings? If not, what is the fixture brand and model number of what is there now? In 40 years I have never seen a recessed sloped ceiling light that I liked. The openings are too large and/or in a kitchen they inevitably put light on your head instead of on walls or counters where it belongs. I would build a redwood soffit at the top of the cabinets and install 3 3/4 inch low voltage recessed lights in the horizontal surface. That would get rid of the odd gap up there and put some light where you need it.

David... This combination (chandelier and recessed lights over the island) is definitely different and I have not seen photos of this combination. I am wondering if a compromise would be to use only 3 chandeliers or pendants over the island only and move the recessed lights along the wall where the cabinets are located more toward the center of the aisle between the cabinets and island. Right now the recessed lights are 32" from the wall. The aisle distance between the cabinets and island will be approximately 48". Currently I am using a Cree Par30 short neck 3000K 40 degree beam spread bulb in the Juno can with clear alzak trim. The hope is that the light will spread toward the counter tops along the cabinets as well as the counter top on the island. Please provide your feedback. FYI.. Another option could be to add another row of recessed lights along the front of the island and have 3 chandeliers or pendants centered along the island. Overall it looks to be like the lighting is well spaced. I would leave the placement of lights in the great room as is. The can lighting in the kitchen, I would move closer to the cabinets. If they are spaced in the middle of the walkways, you will have shadowing as you stand in front of the cabinets. I see you have under cabinet lighting, however we generally place recessed lights 24 inches from the wall in kitchens. Overall, I think your lighting plan looks solid.
