Ntt Hou, when I got on the computer earlier today (don't remember what time it was) I was surprised to found the post had been removed. No one but the-powers-that-be can do that. Usually it is done because someone here asks to have it deleted. There were hard feelings between some posters, but I saw nothing that would cause it to be deleted.

You could email Tamara and ask why, but I have no idea if she would/could tell you.

Sometimes these things happen. Don't be overly concerned about it, just keep posting.

DANG!! I did not read that post, now I wish I did;)

Well, I finally received an email from GW staff. Apparently, they think that the thread had became too political and deleted it, (eyes rolling) just when it was starting to become a friendly thread.

I am now officially confused! There you go with "freedom of speech". I no longer allowed to show my appreciation for being a US citizen. I have better stopped here before this too will get deleted.

Sue-Va, I'll try to repost my post sometime later when I'm more at ease with this forum.

This site is owned by a private business that can make rules about what you can and cannot say on their site. It has nothing to do with "freedom of speech". There is a difference.

The rules are simple, post political stuff on Hot Topics. I think your post was fine, but it was others who dragged it down.

Sushipup is right. Please don't let this turn you away from the Kitchen Table. We need you and your wisdom here.

When you started the thread, it wasn't a Hot Topics topic. It was very uplifting, until...it was turned into being political, and that is too bad.

Before my post on that thread, someone commented that they expected it to be pulled. I didn't think so. It didn't seem to meet that criteria, but there could have been other posts after mine.

Ok, I'm back. I'm one that won't let anything upset me more than 2 minutes. Once it went up to almost 2 hours, this incident made my boss laughed. He never thought I'd be mad at anyone or anything for 'that' long, LOL.

It took me longer because I had a crave for some juice. It took sometime to squeeze orange juice & grapefruit. I'm refreshed inside and out now :)

Thanks everyone for your comforting words. I truly appreciate it. I don't disagree with GW policies for they are the same of mine too. Even with my best of friends and family, I don't talk much with them about money, politic & religion. These are my NO, NO and NO.

Most people don't understand or except that you have your choice and I have mine and just leave it as that.

However, at times I notice that people put a thin line between what's political and what's not. Hence, the term "politically correct & incorrect" is all about. I mean I can begin a subject about "dolls" and someone will jump in and turn it into a political subject. It can happen to any subjects. So, would that be my fault? And get penalized for it? Certainly that's what it seemed by the action that GW staff did on my thread. What they should have done was removing those couple of posts that they thought was political only from the thread instead of the whole thread. Well, enough said on my part.

These were my last posts from that thread that I could remembered and of course, non-political.

To Toni*, I agree with your comment about "disagree does not mean hatred" (did I get it right?). It's hard to reply something that you can't see nor remember clearly. Anyway, I too often have to emphasize that just because I don't like someone or something, it doesn't mean I hate the person/it. Disliking someone to me is to stay away from that person in order to avoid troubles. It had nothing to do with hate. Hate is such a strong word and I have no reason to hate anyone.

Sue_va, thanks for reading my posts. I didn't know I have a fan :). I've been with GW actually much longer that the post about opening jars. I have too many hobbies and often involved in sharing & learning from these forums. Thus, I do pop in and out from different forums. Not enough time in a day to get involved in all. However, I do come back to KT now and then. If not, I'd missing all the laughters and informative threads/posts such as the one that Alisande recently was enthuse about her new stick vacuum. LOL, I went ahead and purchased one too! Alisande should get a commission for all the sales that came from that thread.

So, my current hobby is machine knitting. A hobby that was quite popular and expensive prior to the mid-80's. When our US economy went down in the 80's, the market for knitting machine plumped as well. Many companies stopped producing knitting machines.

This is one hobby that takes time to learn. The machine knitters in those days were mostly in their senior years; an age that one was no longer working and had time to learn the hobby. These seniors now are passing away and left all these knitting machines to their loved one. Since the hobby became unpopular, the heirs didn't know what to do or operate these machines; thus, they've been sold on eBay and abroad inexpensively. Now the low to mid-income hobbyists can afford these knitting machines, such as I.

It's slowing coming back. Most knowledge and teachings are relied on the experienced machine knitters and the internet, a place where we can use it to teach/share & learn globally. In which this means that my time on those forums have been mostly there. I will try to visit here more often. Sorry folks for such a long post. Hope I didn't bored you.

I don't think someone necessarily "complained" about Ntt's thread here. Maybe so, maybe not.... but it clearly went over the line into political no-no for the rules for KT by a couple of posters & i would guess they might've gotten an email from the powers about their posts. I think it's entirely possible that the post was being monitored simply because of the word "Presidential" in its title. That word itself often brings out the vitriol ... some just can't help themselves.

And Ntt, it wasn't your fault, there was nothing wrong with any of your posts. I agree it would be nice if the powers could simply delete rule offending posts. But perhaps that not possible?

Your post wasn't political at all as far as I could see, but then people started getting snarky and the Garden Web pulled it. That doesn't mean someone here asked for it to be deleted. They can delete any post their little hearts desire, because it's theirs and we just have the privilege of getting together here. And you shouldn't feel bad at all. It was an interesting topic at first!

If you read the top of the opening page it says we can't post anything having to do with religion or politics. Like I said, you didn't mean for it to become what it did. You were just caught up in the moment of the whole red, white and blue patriotic thing like most of us.

If I remember correctly, it was 4 years ago when someone started a very innocent thread about the Inaugural Gown and the Inaugural Balls. It started out nice, just like yours did, and was peaceful for a while. It didn't take long though for that thread to turn ugly, political, snarky, with numerous members posting their upset, often with one another while others quietly sat by, watching the train wreck. I think of them as p*ssing matches.
Once a thread turns 'ugly' it is often pulled in its entirety as very few trainwreck threads can ever fully recover and continue peaceably. If only a few offending replies are pulled, then those who had their replies pulled come back and argue and 'defend' what they said, yada. yada, yada,....and so it begins again.

To many here, it seems that Freedom of Speech means they have a right to be mean and snarky whenever they please. They also feel they have a 'right' to break the forum rules and refuse to just go post such things over at Hot Topics.

ntt_hou, as others have said, it wasn't the 'original' post you made that was a problem. It was just some of the many replies to it that turned it into a trainwreck.

Didn't see the thread but if you didn't get a "friendly reminder" then you didn't say anything they interpreted as wrong. It's often hypocritical on what's allowed and not allowed anyway so don't take it personally. Religion isn't supposed to be on here either but hardly a day goes by without someone starting a hallelujah hour thread of some kind but if someone doesn't like what they say, there's a tantrum in the making. But they're often the first people who quote the "rules" when someone posts something they don't like.

Ntt Hou, yeah, you have a fan, and I expect now you have more than one. You may have posted at times when I was out for days/weeks at a time, having surgeries, and so I missed them. That one about the jars made quite an impression with me, because you told us a little about yourself. I'm sorry all this froofraw lead you to drink ... but I'm glad it was fruit juice!

You must be a busy person, to keep up with so many hobbies. What else are your interests? Do you by chance do any writing, about your life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness? I have done so, not much any more. Putting words to paper is therapeutic.

Thanks everyone for you comforting words. As I explained on another thread, I've been busy taking care of home problems. You guys are great and your explanations helped me see what had happened. I was actually more puzzled than upset about that thread.

Sue-VA, LOL, I don't drink, not by choice but due to medical reason. Having polio as a baby, my body is sensitive to toxic stuff such as alcohol, smoking, strong drugs, etc. I break out in hives. Lucky me, huh?

As for what other hobbies do I have, I also sew, make jewelries, crochet, playing with graphic softwares, cooking. That's all I can think for now.

As for writing... There are so many biography books out there, I would bore everyone with mine. Unlike many people, I don't even feel comfortable writing my own diary. Maybe, after I die, all my friends & family can gather together and write about my life. They're welcome to do so as long as I'm not involved in the writing :]
