I slipped in the snow today

I fell right down on my bottom while walking Lila this morning. Man did it ever hurt when I hit the pavement but we kept walking for 11 more blocks. After a few hours the pain just got worse so I phoned my doctor. I got x-rays before I saw her and I have a fracture in my lower back. The bone is called the sacrum. I got a prescription for a big bottle of vicodin and I picked up an inflatable ring at the drug store. Whenever I go out now in snow or ice, I am supposed to put my Yak Trax on my shoes.

I hear you, I knew I wanted them in mid-March and requested Pickering to deliver then, but for some reason DA roses say they'll ship at the appropriate time for my area. That's OK, as long as I get them in mid-March! And lo and behold, I got them and that's a good thing and the roses look big and healthy with a good root system and nice beefy green canes. First time ordering from them and so far they don't disappoint, and like Christmas, I like surprises, as long as they are nice ones like this! Our springs go from freezing to 80 overnight it seems so I do like to get dormant plants in the ground now while there is plenty of moisture in the ground and before the hot drying winds and sunny days fry them before the roots start to grow. I just freaked out a bit when they came because of the snow, my daughter had no school today because of it, but hey, that's Kentucky for you. One flake and they shut everything down. They were already out for a whole week due to the ice storm a few weeks ago. So I started out soaking them in a garbage pail on the back deck, then worried about the water being too cold for them out there, and hauled them inside and they are now soaking in my daughter's bathtub. She almost had a kitten when she went in to fix her makeup before going out tonight and saw "creepy things" in her tub! I'm pretty sure she thinks her mother has now completely lost it. I don't think she will ever be a gardener.

We got about 4 1/2 more inches yesterday on top of the 3" we got Tuesday night. Been too cold for anything to melt. Got down to -3 last night, very cold for here in southern KY. Supposed to be about the same tonight, but warming up after that. Predicting 60s by next week, but that is so far in the future, who knows? I'm ready to get rid of the ice & snow. Since I had hip replacement in Dec, I'm a bit afraid of getting out & sliding much :) Of course, this year we've had more ice & snow than we've had in years. Problem is, if it gets warm, I'll be wanting to get down & do some cleaning in the garden, & not supposed to do that either for a bit :( Guess just can't please me.

Hi again linnea56, Yeah, mine haven't arrived either. But with the exception of candidum (the subject of your other message) lilies can be planted anytime in the winter as long as you can dig the soil up. (Jackhammers anyone???) I'm also assuming this is an early cold snap that will pass by. Or at least I hope it is. I'm not ready for cold weather yet!! -Helen

We had a good 6 inches here in the upstate of South Carolina. Along with a lot ice. This is the second good storm we have had this season. My son is not happy because both storms came in on a Friday afternoon. No snow days off school! If this ice does not melt it is possible he won't have school on Monday. When I was a teenager playing around with my friends at the shore, one of my girlfriends fell off her boyfriend's shoulders and broke that same bone. At least I think it's the same one. She called it her tailbone.

I remember that it was painful. Hope it heals quickly for you!

Ouch! I can just imagine how painful that must be. Please be careful, and take it easy to give it a chance to heal. Sending healing prayers your way. Hugs!

I did that years ago, and landed on my wrist. Ended up with broken wrist and pins inserted. Went into surgery twice.

Hope you are ok.

Please be very careful! I just got word today that my cousin slipped on the ice and broke a hip. Unfortunately, he died in surgery.

Everyone, please, use your yaktrax, or something similar on your shoes when there is snow and ice out.

Linda, I hope your pills dull the pain. I feel for you.

Oh do I feel for you!! Sending lots and lots of good thoughts. I slipped on compacted ice last March and still feel the effects. Lucky I did not break anything, just had my feet go out from under me, and fell flat on my back. Spent 3 months in sports medicine, but my back still hurts a bit. Found out that I had broken a vertebrae years ago, and that got damaged a bit. Again HUGS and good thoughts.

Try and follow the drs. orders regarding resting and heat and ice as the back takes some time to heal since you're moving it all the time. Sorry you had the fall. This past year I fell backwards down five cement stairs on to tarmac. It took months for the pain to stop so try real hard to take it easy and let someone else walk the dog.

Soounds painful, hope you take the pain pills and they help. I hope you feel better every day. Last January I fell on the ice and injured my wrist and knee. Went for Xrsys, nothing broken. Took a long time for the knee to feel better.

Hi Linda,

OUCH! That hurts like crazy! I went through it as a teenager and all these years later, I can still rememberer how bad it was. Use the donut and be careful when getting out of a chair. It will take several months to go away so don't look for a quick fix.

I sure feel for you, so sorry it happened. One must be as careful as they can when going out now. It is very icy outside here now in central Indiana. Hope it heals quickly for you.

When I was a tiny child, I was sitting on a bench at a toy piano. It tipped over and I plopped down on my butt, breaking my sacrum. It never gives me any pain, but I am prone to getting infections (cysts) at the bottom of my spine. Good cleaning and a little baby powder prevents them. I don't even remember the incident,I was so little. Hope you heal up fast,Linda.

Sorry to hear that you're having such pain, Linda. And it sounds as though it'll be with you for a while.

I hope that you don't have something(s) too strenuous in your plans for a while.

Around here - a couple of inches of new snow last night.

That's all it takes.

I am so sorry, Linda! Ouch, I know it hurts, I fell on my steps about 10 years ago, straight down on my tailbone, cracked it. Take your drugs and wear you Trax!

I hope you feel better. It's risky out there. I did take the dogs for their walk but where I didn't see bare sidewalk, I'd really slow down. It's in the 20's and any wet spot will freeze. I pitied my little dachshund . Even though he had his fleece coat on, he's so short his belly hits the snow.

OW! I remember that kind of pain. I fell going down cement steps into the girls' locker room when I was in H.S. I remember that I almost fainted. That took some time to heal, even in a much younger body!

Take it easy. Can someone else walk your dog for a while? You sure don't want to re-injure this now.
